The Chicago Bears signed wide receiver/return specialist Trevor Davis to an undisclosed one-year deal on Wednesday. Davis has appeared in 43 games in his career, including four starts in four seasons with the Packers, Raiders and Dolphins. He's caught 16 passes for 205 yards and one touchdown in that time, also averaging 10.1 yards on 59 punt returns and 22.4 yards on 58 kickoff returns. The 26-year-old was a fifth-round pick of the Packers in 2016, but he's unlikely to make noise on offense for Chicago in 2020, so you can avoid him in fantasy leagues. He spent time with the Raiders and Dolphins in 2019.
The Oakland Raiders acquired wide receiver/kick returner Trevor Davis from the Packers on Wednesday, according to a source. The speed demon is one of the league's better punt and kick returners and should compete for a spot on the receiver depth chart in Oakland. The 26-year-old had just one catch for 28 yards in two games this year in Green Bay and has nine receptions for 122 yards and one touchdown in 29 career games played. He'll mainly be used on special teams in his new home and can be ignored for fantasy purposes unless you're in a really deep league that counts return yardage.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis caught his single target in the opening game against the Chicago Bears. Davis had a mixed pre-season, impressing at the crucial time towards the end of the process, finally making the roster. Davis is likely not going to have value unless one of the starters becomes injured. However, the situation is worth monitoring should that happen, given the amount of three-wide receiver sets that the team runs.
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis returned from injury and impressed in the matchup against the Oakland Raiders. Davis finished the game catching five of his six targets for 78 yards and a touchdown, and also added 18 yards on a rushing attempt. Davis has had impressive flashes in camp this season and has performed on special teams. However, Davis faces a struggle for regular-season game time with Jake Kumerow looking as though he would be the next man up.
The Green Bay Packers activated wide receiver Trevor Davis (hamstring) from Injured Reserve on Thursday, and he may help in the return game for the rest of the season. The 25-year-old has yet to play this year and has only eight receptions on 13 targets for 94 yards and a touchdown in 27 games in his first two seasons. He's not someone to know for fantasy owners.
The Green Bay Packers placed wide receiver Trevor Davis (hamstring) on Injured Reserve on Tuesday and claimed cornerback Deante Burton off waivers from the Falcons in a corresponding move. The team also signed cornerback Will Redmond to the practice squad and released safety Marwin Evans. Davis didn't play any offensive snaps in Week 1 on Sunday night and wasn't fantasy relevant to begin with.
Green Bay running back Ty Montgomery took some reps returning kickoffs in Mondays practice. Green Bays incumbent return man, wide receiver Trevor Davis (hamstring) missed practice. Rookie wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling also took some reps. Montgomery is almost certainly not going to be Green Bays return man in 2018. There are more effective options on the roster and it would put a lot of wear on an injury-prone player. However, this cant be a good sign for how Green Bay views him. The common assumption for 2018 was that Ty Montgomery would only see snaps in obvious passing plays and be used situationally. Yet, we hadnt seen much proof that this would be his role. Montgomery getting some work with the special teams unit is a sign that Green Bay doesnt foresee a large workload for him. A slight confirmation of exactly what many had predicted.
Green Bay wide receiver Trevor Davis led all Green Bay players in receiving yards in Week 17 with 56 yards on three receptions. He was targeted three times. Davis is primarily a special teams specialist, but the second-year receiver saw an increased role in the matchup against Detroit due to injuries to wide receivers Jordy Nelson, Davante Adamsand Geronimo Allison. Davis is yet to show anything to suggest he could become a regular contributor in the passing game, but he has an intriguing skill set. Davis is explosive and has 4.4 speed. He is the only player in Green Bay who could even conceivably be considered a deep threat. It is a skill set that has been desperately missing from Green Bays standard rotation. A lot would need to happen to make Davis even a fringe sleeper for 2018. Michael Clark is likely the better prospect than both Davis and Allisonat this point. Still, a player with Davis measurables should not be immediately discounted.
Trevor Davis Returns Punt for TD; Big Implications for Green Bay's Offense
Second-year Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis had a big game on Thursday. He had a 68 yard punt return for a touchdown along with another punt return for 26 yards. The big takeaways for Green Bay's special teams are clear, but there are big implications for its offense. Trevor Davis is probably the fastest player in Green Bay's training camp and the only real deep threat they having in the passing game. Green Bay's scheme gives very little help to its wide receivers and leaves them vulnerable to press coverage. Having a wide receiver who can take the top off a defense and back their safeties up is crucial to open up space for other receivers, particularly Randall Cobb. Trevor Davis was on the verge of being cut but after he showed how he can contribute on special teams that is very unlikely. If Green Bay can get Trevor Davis out on the field more, there is reason to think Cobb might have a bounce back year.
Keep an Eye on Trevor Davis, the Rookie WR Turning Heads at Packers Training Camp
With six returning WRs it was hard to see how Trevor Davis, a fifth round pick out of Cal, was going to fit into Green Bay's plans. The 6'1" speedster was projected to be a return specialist when he was drafted. But after a big first day from Davis, McCarthy and company may need to readjust their plans. Davis made a number of huge catches. This is good news as his hands were listed as one of his weaknesses by scouts going into the draft. Outside of injuries, it is hard to see how Davis will get snaps with Green Bay's deep WR corps. So at this point do not draft Davis outside of dynasty leagues. But definitely keep an eye on how the Packers use him in Week 1.
