Trevor Siemian News
The Chicago Bears released quarterback Trevor Siemian on Thursday. The move comes after the Bears scooped up P.J. Walker on Wednesday after he was non-tendered by the Carolina Panthers. Walker will now head into the 2023 season as the backup to Justin Fields, pending another acquisition by Chicago at the QB position. Siemian ended 2022 on Injured Reserve with an oblique injury and played in just two games (one start) in his lone season with the Bears, throwing for 184 yards, one touchdown and one interception. In six NFL seasons with the Bears, Denver Broncos, New York Jets and New Orleans Saints, Siemian has played in 35 games (30 starts) and has completed only 58.9 percent of his passes for 7,027 yards, 42 touchdowns and 28 picks. He'll attempt to land another backup gig on the open market.
Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus told reporters on Friday that quarterback Trevor Siemian (oblique) will have season-ending surgery to fix the oblique injury that he suffered during pre-game warmups last week. Siemian played in the Week 12 loss to the New York Jets with the injury, but he'll now miss the rest of the season. The good news for the Bears is that starter Justin Fields (shoulder) will return under center this Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. With Siemian out the rest of the way, either Nathan Peterman or the recently signed Tim Boyle will serve as Fields' emergency backup for the rest of the 2022 campaign. Siemian went 14-for-25 for 179 yards with a touchdown and an interception in last week's loss.
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields (shoulder) is expected to be limited in practice again on Thursday, while Trevor Siemian (oblique) is expected to miss yet another practice, according to offensive coordinator Luke Getsy. It's the same designations the two QBs had on Wednesday, so nothing has changed. Fields is trending towards being a game-time decision in Week 13 against the Green Bay Packers after sitting out last week's loss to the New York Jets. Out of playoff contention, the Bears won't risk endangering their franchise signal-caller if he's not ready. It sounds like Siemian won't be ready to play, so if Fields doesn't get the green light, the Bears offense will be led by either Nathan Peterman or recently signed Tim Boyle on Sunday. If Fields plays, he'll be a must-start QB1 in fantasy.
