Veteran defensive lineman Trey Flowers is signing with the New England Patriots for the 2023 NFL season. Flowers was drafted by New England in the fourth round of the 2015 NFL Draft before heading to the Detroit Lions on a big-money contract in 2019. He spent last season with the Miami Dolphins, but he'll now return to where his career began. Flowers posted 21 sacks over his final three seasons with New England but only produced 10.5 sacks the following three years with Detroit and Miami. Reunited with Bill Belichick, he could return to form and flash his early-career success once again.
The New England Patriots hosted free-agent veteran defensive end Trey Flowers for a workout at training camp on Monday. Flowers only saw action in four games (zero starts) with the Miami Dolphins last year because of a foot injury, ultimately finishing with just four total tackles. The 29-year-old was originally a fourth-round selection by the Patriots in 2015 out of Arkansas, and he spent the first four seasons of his NFL career in New England before joining the Detroit Lions for three seasons. Flowers would be providing the Pats with defensive-line depth if he joins them. In his eight NFL campaigns, he has 265 tackles (161 solo), 31.5 sacks, 37 tackles for loss, 87 QB hits, seven passes defensed, 10 forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 79 games (64 starts).
The Miami Dolphins officially signed former New England Patriots and Detroit Lions linebacker Trey Flowers to an undisclosed deal on Monday. Flowers failed his physical in March and was released by the Lions after playing in 14 total games due to injuries in the last two years. Originally a fourth-round selection by the Patriots in 2015 out of the University of Arkansas, Flowers has 261 tackles (160 solo), 31.5 sacks, 37 tackles for loss, 86 QB hits, seven passes defensed, 10 forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries in 75 career games (64 starts) over seven NFL seasons. The 29-year-old veteran will provide valuable depth for the Dolphins defense in 2022.
Free-agent linebacker Trey Flowers is joining the Dolphins. He began his career with the Patriots, helping the franchise secure multiple Super Bowl victories. He then signed with the Lions in 2019, where he played his last three seasons before the team released him during the offseason. While the veteran's production and availability have decreased substantially over his previous few years in Detroit, he has plenty of upside. Flowers isn't worth much for IDP managers at the moment. However, he's someone to watch throughout the 2022-23 campaign and could prove helpful on the fantasy end if he can carve out a consistent role and stay healthy.
The Miami Dolphins are working out veteran free-agent outside linebacker Trey Flowers on Wednesday, according to sources. A two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, Flowers was released by the Detroit Lions in March, and he just turned 29 years old. In just seven games played with Detroit in 2021 due to injuries, Flowers had 24 tackles (15 solo), 1.5 sacks, three QB hits, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. He played in just 14 combined games in his final two seasons with the Lions, but if he can stay healthy, he could provide the Dolphins with quality pass-rushing depth at the position.
The Detroit Lions are slated to sign free-agent defensive end Trey Flowers to a five-year deal, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. The deal is worth $90 million and includes $56 million in guarantees. It also includes $40 million fully guaranteed at signing and reunites Flowers with Detroit head coach Matt Patricia. Flowers has been the Patriots best pass rusher over the last few seasons and will significantly upgrade Detroit's pass rush with Ezekiel Ansah on the open market. He should continue to be useful for those in IDP leagues with his new team.
New England Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers (concussion) and safety Patrick Chung (concussion) both returned to practice on Wednesday. It's a great sign for their availability in Week 4 against the Dolphins after they both were inactive in the Sunday night loss to the Lions where their absences were clearly felt. If both defenders were to return this Sunday, it'd be a boost to the Pats overall defense and a downgrade for Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
New England Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers (concussion) and safety Patrick Chung (concussion) did not practice all week and are doubtful for Week 3 against the Lions. They are notable absences for Sunday Night Football, and it'll make life easier on Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and his receivers in what could be a high-scoring affair.
Trey Flowers, Patrick Chung Suffer Concussions Sunday
New England Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers (concussion) and safety Patrick Chung (concussion) both left the game in Week 2 with concussions and didn't return. Chung was replaced by Duron Harmon. Flowers is a top IDP defensive end and could be in danger of missing a game or two. The same goes for Chung. If they are forced to sit out in Week 3, New England's overall defense will be much more vulnerable.
