Zach Ertz News
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz sounded as if he was saying his goodbyes to the Eagles organization during his end-of-the-season press conference on Monday. With the Eagles able to save around $4.5 million in salary cap by cutting Ertz after eight seasons and with Dallas Goedert on the roster through 2021 on his affordable rookie deal, it seems likely that Ertz won't be with Philly next season. The former second-rounder made three straight Pro Bowls from 2017-19 and has averaged around 760 receiving yards and over four touchdowns per season in his career. The 30-year-old would love to stay in Philadelphia, but he also had a down year with just one touchdown in 11 games due to injuries. While he's no longer a high-end TE1 like he was several years ago, he could be a nice sleeper if he's cut and lands in a favorable situation elsewhere.
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz caught three passes in a Week 17 loss to the Washington Football Team, gaining just 16 yards total. Ertz was targeted six times, leading the team in targets on a day that fellow tight end Dallas Goedert (calf) was unable to play. The former alpha-TE1 named Zach Ertz may not even be the same person we saw on the field this season. Ertz spent five games on IR this season but was disappointing even when healthy, totaling just 36 catches for 336 yards and one touchdown all year. Ertz had asked for an extension earlier this season, and the Eagles declined. There's plenty of reason to believe he's played his last game in an Eagles uniform, and even more reason to believe he's long played his last game as a fantasy TE1.
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Zach Ertz could have some solid TE2 value with touchdown upside in a Week 17 game against the Washington Football Team. Ertz ended up running more pass routes than fellow Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert in Week 16, and he saw seven targets to Goedert's three. That pattern is unlikely to repeat, but it still shows that the Eagles are trying to involve both of their tight ends into the offensive game plan. That could be even more the case in Week 17 since the Washington defense is excellent against running backs and wide receivers but only average at best against tight ends. Ertz hasn't done much since returning from his injury (nine catches in four games), but he could wrap up the year with his biggest game in a while. He's a TE2 who could sneak into the lower TE1 ranks if a few things go his way.
