Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller announced his retirement from football on his Instagram account on Tuesday. Miller never played in a full season in his six seasons in the NFL, and he also missed three years from 2012 to 2014 due to injury. The killer was his 2017 leg injury that required nine surgeries. Miller finishes with 146 catches for 1,631 yards and 15 touchdowns in 66 games over six seasons with the Jaguars and Bears.
Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller (knee) said he is unsure if he will continue playing football and said his final decision will come soon. The aging tight end has had nine surgeries since a knee injury he suffered in 2017. Even if Miller decides to keep playing, it's unlikely that he'd make much noise in fantasy for a Bears team that already has tight ends Trey Burton and Adam Shaheen in the fold.
The Chicago Bears placed tight end Zach Miller (leg) on the reserve Physically Unable to Perform list, which will end his season. The Bears signed Miller to a one-year deal on Monday as a good-faith gesture knowing that it was a long shot that he'd ever play again.
The Chicago Bears signed free-agent tight end Zach Miller to a one-year contract on Monday for the veteran minimum. Miller has had nine surgeries to save his leg since dislocating his knee last year and is unlikely to be able to return to the playing field. He has zero fantasy value.
Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller (leg), who recently had surgery Oct. 29 to save his left leg, is confident that his long-term quality of life won't be affected by his injury, and he is hoping to play again. Miller must undergo another operation on his left knee, and he must build up strength before his final surgery. He'll be a free agent after this season, but at age 33 with his injury history, it's hard to see a robust market developing for his serves. Back in Chicago, rookie Adam Shaheen has emerged in the second half of the season as a decent red-zone threat, and he has the ability to be a solid pass-catching tight end for the Bears moving forward.
Chicago Bears tight end Zach Miller (leg) needed eight surgeries on his leg. There remains no timetable for him to resume a normal life, but Miller is confident it will happen. He wants to keep playing football, but that seems a long ways off. Miller will be a free agent in 2018, and it's unclear at this time if he'll continue his playing career. He's obviously well off the fantasy radar, even in keeper/dynasty leagues.
Ben Braunecker Activated With Zach Miller Done For The Year
The Chicago Bears activated tight end Ben Braunecker on Tuesday after Zach Miller (leg) was lost for the season. Braunecker probably won't see much playing time with Dion Sims and rookie Adam Shaheen filling in for the injured Miller. Shaheen has more upside than Sims, but neither is anything more than a desperation tight end streamer in a struggling passing offense led by rookie Mitch Trubisky.
Zach Miller underwent overnight emergency surgery on his injured left leg, according to ESPN's Chris Mortensen. The surgery had to repair damaged arteries and the procedure was an effort to not just repair his leg but "save the leg". This is a tragic turn of events and Miller's health is more important than the timeline of how long he will be sidelined. He has overcome leg injuries in the past but this appears to be the most severe and it his season may be over. Miller injured his leg catching an eventual over-turned touchdown during the Bears loss to the Saints. With the Bears cupboard of wide receivers barren, another weapon rookie quarterback Mitch Trubisky can throw to has gone down. It is a strong bet Miller will end up on IR and can be dropped in all formats.
Zach Miller exited the Bears 20-12 loss to the Saints after landing badly on his left leg trying to make a touchdown catch. Miller caught a beautiful pass from quarterback Mitch Trubisky for the score and his leg bent in the opposite direction coming down with the catch. The play was ruled a touchdown on the field but was overturned as the the officiating crew deemed he did not complete the catch. It was insult added to injury and veteran tight end could miss significant time, if not the season.
Zach Miller and the Bears will travel to New Orleans to take on the Saints in Week 8. Miller scored touchdowns in consecutive weeks but the Bears attempted only seven passes in their win against the Panthers and Miller caught only two passes. They will have to air it out against Drew Brees and the Saints so Miller should see some targets. But it is very hard to trust the vertical passing game of the Bears with rookie Mitch Trubisky and Miller is a touchdown-dependent fantasy option this week. The Saints have allowed the eighth fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends this season.
