Zack Martin To Retire

NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports that seven-time All-Pro offensive guard Zack Martin has informed the Dallas Cowboys that he plans to retire, according to sources. Martin is one of the greatest linemen of his era and will surely get into the Hall of Fame down the road. The 34-year-old stepping away and hanging up his cleats will obviously be a big blow to a Cowboys offense that will be run by new head coach Brian Schottenheimer in 2025. In addition to being a seven-time All-Pro, Martin was named to nine Pro Bowls in his 11 seasons in Dallas. His seven first-team All-Pro selections are tied with Hall of Famers Randall McDaniel and John Hannah for the most among guards all time, according to ESPN Research. Martin was a first-rounder back in 2014 and ended up starting 162 games and missing more than one game in a season just twice (2020, 2024). He was named to the NFL's All-Decade team from 2010-20.

Zack Martin Could Retire This Offseason

With Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Zack Martin (ankle) set to undergo season-ending ankle surgery, he might have played his last game in the NFL. The 34-year-old has appeared in 162 NFL games and played over 10,000 snaps. He has seven first-team All-Pro selections and nine Pro Bowl nods on his resume, but the 34-year-old is considering hanging up the cleats this offseason. Martin was the last man standing on the dominant Dallas offensive line from a few years ago with tackle Tyron Smith and center Travis Frederick, and his retirement could leave a significant hole in the already-thin Dallas offensive line. If Martin retires this offseason, he'll surely be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

Zack Martin To Have Season-Ending Ankle Surgery

Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Zack Martin (ankle) will undergo season-ending surgery on his right ankle, according to head coach Mike McCarthy. It's more bad news for the Cowboys with five games remaining in the regular season. Martin, a seven-time All-Pro offensive lineman, injured his ankle in the Week 11 loss to the Houston Texans and hadn't played since. With the 34-year-old veteran out the rest of the way in what has been a lost season for Dallas, offensive lineman Brock Hoffman figures to take over as the team's starting right guard. Martin, the former sixth overall pick by Dallas back in 2014, will hit the free-agent market this offseason and could depart in free agency. His injury is just more bad news for an offense that is also without quarterback Dak Prescott (hamstring) for the rest of the season.

Zack Martin Ruled Out, Trevon Diggs Questionable For Thanksgiving Game

Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Zack Martin (ankle, shoulder) missed practice all week and has been ruled out for Thursday's Turkey Day game against the division-rival New York Giants. Meanwhile, cornerback Trevon Diggs (groin, knee) and linebackers Eric Kendricks (groin, shoulder) and Nick Vigil (foot) are questionable to play. Martin, a seven-time All-Pro, was injured in the Week 11 loss to the Houston Texans and will now miss his second straight game. It's an obvious downgrade for Dallas' offensive line on Thursday against a nasty Giants defensive line. T.J. Bass will likely make the start at right guard for the Cowboys. Diggs was also inactive for the Week 12 win over the division-rival Washington Commanders. If he misses a second straight game, it will be good news for Giants rookie receiver Malik Nabers. Dallas' D should be started regardless in fantasy against the G-Men.

Zack Martin Doubtful To Play In Week 12

Dallas Cowboys right guard Zack Martin (ankle, shoulder) is listed as doubtful to suit up for the Week 12 contest against the division-rival Washington Commanders on Sunday in D.C. In addition, offensive tackle Chuma Edoga (toe) and left guard Tyler Smith (ankle, knee) are questionable to suit up. Martin, a seven-time All-Pro, suffered an ankle injury in the Monday night loss to the Houston Texans and will likely be unavailable on Sunday. Smith also suffered his ankle injury in Week 11 and may have to sit out to heal up. It's more bad news for a Cowboys offense that is now being led by quarterback Cooper Rush for the third straight game with Dak Prescott (hamstring) out for the rest of the season. It's great news for a Commanders defense that ranks ninth in the NFL this year with 29 team sacks.

Zack Martin, Tyler Smith Both Tagged With DNPs Wednesday

Dallas Cowboys offensive linemen Zack Martin (ankle, shoulder) and Tyler Smith (ankle, knee) were both listed as non-participants in Wednesday's practice. Martin and Smith appeared on Dallas' Week 11 injury report with shoulder and knee issues, respectively, before suiting up for Monday night's home tilt against the Houston Texans. However, the ankle designation is a new injury for both players. Fortunately for the Cowboys, tackle Tyler Guyton (shoulder) was able to log a full session, but the injuries are starting to pile up for them on offense. The duo has two more opportunities to improve their practice status before they line up against the Washington Commanders in a road tilt this Sunday. Still, the team is currently in danger of being down another two critical offensive pieces.

Zack Martin Agrees To Reworked Contract

The Dallas Cowboys and Zack Martin agreed to a reworked contract on Friday, opening up approximately $13 million in cap space. The deal converts $16.25 million of his 2024 salary into a signing bonus and adds one void year to his contract. The nine-time Pro Bowler and nine-time All-Pro has been called for just seven holding penalties and eight false starts through the first 152 games of his career, and he's been one of the most important pieces of the modern Cowboys team. The Cowboys were are now out of the negatives in cap space ahead of 2024 free agency, which begins next week.

Zack Martin Questionable To Return On Sunday

Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Zack Martin (quadriceps) is questionable to return on Sunday against the Bills. The veteran was able to walk to the sideline on his own, which is a good sign. However, it wouldn't be an ideal scenario for Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and the rest of the Cowboys offense if Martin doesn't return. Undrafted rookie T.J. Bass entered the contest to fill the void.

Zack Martin Gets In Full Practice Session

Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Zack Martin (thigh) was a full participant during Thursday's practice. It's good to see Martin back on the field after he sat out of Wednesday's session. Head coach Mike McCarthy said his absence on Wednesday was largely due to rest purposes. The six-time All-Pro should be back on the field for the Week 5 matchup against the San Francisco 49ers. Martin is a significant piece on this offensive line, so having him healthy is a good thing for Dallas.

Zack Martin Returns To Practice

Dallas Cowboys offensive guard Zack Martin (ankle) returned to a limited practice on Thursday after sitting out on Wednesday. Martin left the team's Week 2 win over the New York Jets with an ankle injury, but it appears that he'll have a chance to suit up this Sunday when the team faces the Cardinals in Arizona. The 32-year-old veteran could still draw a questionable tag for this weekend's game on Friday's final injury report. If Martin is unable to get the green light to suit up on Sunday, either Chuma Edoga or T.J. Bass would get the start for Martin at right guard.
