Alexander Edler Expected To Return Thursday Vs. Sharks
Los Angeles Kings defenseman Alexander Edler (lower body) is expected back in the lineup Thursday as his team hosts the San Jose Sharks. The 35-year-old blueliner has been sidelined since December 11 when he sustained an injury against the Minnesota Wild. Edler has just 11 points (one goal, 10 assists) through 26 games played this season but also has a plus-8 rating. He is projected to skate with Sean Durzi as the Kings' second defensive pair.
Alexander Edler Placed On Long-Term Injured Reserve
Los Angeles Kings defenseman Alexander Edler (ankle) has been played on Long-Term Injured Reserve. The veteran rearguard has already missed four games and is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Edler fractured his left ankle on Dec. 11, so he'll indeed need quite some time to get healthy again. The Swede has done a good job for the Kings this season with 11 points, 43 hits and 42 blocks in 26 games. The Kings also moved Sean Walker (knee) on Long-Term Injured Reserve, and he's already ruled out for the season.
Los Angeles Kings defenseman Olli Maatta will enter the lineup on Tuesday against Tampa, replacing Alexander Edler (lower body) on the second defensive pairing. The Swedish blue-liner was injured early in Saturday's 2-1 win over Minnesota, and the team has placed him on Injured Reserve. Maatta has been a healthy scratch for six consecutive games. He's notched two points in 15 games with 10 shots, 12 hits and 25 blocks. The 27-year-old will have an opportunity to impress, but he's not a guy fantasy managers should look at.
Alexander Edler Scores Goal Against Calgary On Thursday
Los Angeles Kings defenseman Alexander Edler broke into the goal column on Thursday night against the Calgary Flames. Edler, in his younger days, was like a Swiss-Army knife when it came to padding fantasy hockey stat categories. Thursday night turned the clock back a little bit. Edler scored with less than two minutes left in the second period and added an assist in the first period, which opened the scoring. He had two shots on goal, four hits, and a blocked shot on goal. Edler now has 10 points in 22 games, making last season appear to be more of an outlier.
Alexander Edler Returns From Suspension On Saturday
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler will be back in the lineup on Saturday against Ottawa after serving a two-game suspension. The veteran blueliner will join Nate Schmidt on the first defensive pairing. Edler, who averages 20:43 of ice time, has only six points in 37 games this season, but he's done plenty of dirty work by recording 81 blocks and 64 hits. Forwards Tyler Motte and Zack MacEwen are also set to rejoin the lineup.
Alexander Edler Starts Two-Game Suspension Tuesday Night
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler will start a two-game suspension with Tuesday's matchup against the Maple Leafs. He was suspended for kneeing Toronto's Zach Hyman in Sunday's 3-2 overtime victory. Edler will also be sidelined for Thursday's clash with Ottawa. The veteran blueliner is a big force on the defensive end for the Canucks, having posted 81 blocks and 64 hits through 37 games this season. On the offensive front, Edler has managed eight points and 70 shots with no goals. Nate Schmidt, who hasn't played since March 24 due to COVID-19, will replace Edler as Tyler Myers' partner on Tuesday.
Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alexander Edler (upper body) is back in the lineup on Saturday against Montreal after missing Thursday's clash with the Habs. The Swedish blue-liner was labeled day-to-day but he wasn't expected to return on Saturday, so this is great news for fantasy managers. Edler hasn't done much so far this season with one assist in five games, but he had a decent year with 33 points in 59 games last season, so there is still some life left in him.
