Ben Chiarot News
Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ben Chiarot (upper body) will be out for a third consecutive game Thursday against Philadelphia. With Chiarot missing from the back, Detroit gave up four goals last time out against Dallas. His replacement, Justin Holl, struggled and finished a 5-4 loss with a minus-two rating. Holl is expected to remain in the lineup Thursday as Olli Maatta's partner on the second defensive pairing.
Detroit Red Wings defenseman Ben Chiarot will miss Sunday's game against Tampa Bay with an upper-body injury. The 32-year-old will be out of the lineup for the first time this season. Chiarot's best qualities come out on the defensive end, with the veteran totaling 84 hits and 93 blocks in 45 games this term. He's had three goals and nine assists with 62 shots offensively. Justin Holl, who has five points through 30 games with 30 hits and 32 blocks, will come into the lineup as Chiarot's replacement.
The Florida Panthers acquired defenseman Ben Chiarot from the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday, giving up prospect Tyler Smilanic and their 2023 first-round and 2022 fourth-round draft pick. It remains to be seen if Chiarot is ready to make his debut straight away on Thursday against Vegas. This is a great move for the 30-year-old, as he goes from the worst team in the league to one of the best. Chiarot has been a good source for defensive stats in fantasy hockey, averaging 2.04 hits and 1.68 blocks for the season. He's also on pace to having a career year offensively and joining the league's highest-scoring team will boost his chances of getting there even further. However, Chiarot's defensive numbers look set to drop, as he will play a lesser role on the Panthers team.
Montreal Canadiens defenseman Ben Chiarot will be a healthy scratch for Tuesday's game against Arizona. The team will keep him out of action to protect him from a potential injury ahead of next Monday's trade deadline. Chiarot should be an attractive piece for a lot of teams. He's a big force in the defensive end, having registered 110 hits and 91 blocks this season, and he's shown off his offensive ability as well lately, averaging a point per game across his last nine outings. Chiarot is on seven goals and 18 points for the whole campaign in 54 games.
