Damon Severson Expected to Make Season Debut Friday

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson (shoulder) is expected to make his season debut this week, Brian Hedger of The Columbus Dispatch reports. On Monday, Blue Jackets head coach Rick Bowness said he expects Severson to be available on Friday against Pittsburgh. Severson has missed Columbus' first two games of the season due to shoulder surgery. The team has allowed seven goals without him in the lineup. Severson's return will improve the defense. He'll also boost the offense after a 32-point season. Denton Mateychuk's ice time will likely decrease significantly with Severson's return.

Damon Severson Considered Week-to-Week

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson (shoulder) is week-to-week. He's already been ruled out for the first two games of the season, but Severson could miss even more time as he continues to recover from shoulder surgery. Ivan Provorov (lower body) and Dante Fabbro (upper body) are also week-to-week, so Columbus will miss half of its regular defense in Thursday's season openers against Buffalo. Denton Mateychuk, Carson Soucy, and Emil Andrae all have added fantasy value due to the injuries.

Damon Severson to Miss At Least Two Games

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson (shoulder) won't be in the lineup for the first two games of the season, Jason Newland of The Hockey News reports. The 32-year-old underwent shoulder surgery late last season, and the team doesn't want to rush him into action. Blue Jackets head coach Rick Bowness hopes to have Severson available for the third game of the season, a clash against Pittsburgh on home ice. Dante Fabbro (upper body) isn't available either, making Denton Mateychuk a candidate for a bigger role. On Tuesday, Columbus also signed Carson Soucy to a one-year, $1.15 million contract to bolster its defensive depth.

Damon Severson Questionable for Season Opener

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson (shoulder) is questionable for next week's season opener, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports. Severson has been recovering from shoulder surgery since early April. At training camp, the team has steadily increased Severson's workload, but head coach Rick Bowness isn't sure whether Severson will be available on Oct. 1 against the Buffalo Sabres. Dante Fabbro (upper body) is also nursing an injury, giving trialist Carson Soucy a realistic shot at making the team. Meanwhile, Denton Mateychuk could have significantly more responsibility on defense early in the season.

Damon Severson "Ready to Roll"

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson (shoulder) will be in the lineup at the start of the season, Mark Scheig of The Hockey Writers reports. "He's ready to roll," Blue Jackets general manager Don Waddell told Scheig. "We'll probably keep him out of the exhibition games. No real reason for him to play in exhibition games. He's here and he's doing everything right now. We just want to be a little cautious where we keep him out of heavy contact or anything like that. We'll let him get back going. But I expect him to be ready for the start of the season." Severson underwent shoulder surgery late last season. He led all Blue Jackets defensemen with a plus-12 rating and posted 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists) in 71 games.

Damon Severson Undergoes Season-Ending Surgery

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson (upper body) had surgery on Thursday and will miss the rest of the season. He suffered an upper-body injury on a hit from Montreal Canadiens forward Zachary Bolduc on March 26. This is an unfortunate blow for Severson and his team. He had a good campaign in 2025-26, finishing with 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists), 93 SOG, 86 blocks, and a plus-18 rating in 71 games. Denton Mateychuk has taken on a much larger role since Severon landed on the shelf, while Jake Christiansen has become a regular in the lineup.

Damon Severson Not Expected to Return During Regular Season

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson (upper body) is expected to miss the rest of the 2025-26 regular season, Jeff Svoboda of the Blue Jackets' official site reports. He has been out for three games and will only get a chance to return this season if the Blue Jackets secure a playoff berth over the final seven regular-season games. Severson was quietly effective on Columbus' blue line all season, recording 32 points, 93 SOG, 86 blocks, and a plus-18 rating in 71 games. During Severson's absence, Egor Zamula has been part of the lineup in back-to-back games, while Jake Christiansen has also gotten a look on the third defensive pairing.

Damon Severson Labeled Week-to-Week

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson (upper body) is considered week-to-week after he was injured on Thursday night against the Montreal Canadiens. Severson was hurt late in the game from a hit by Canadiens forward Zachary Bolduc. His absence leaves the Blue Jackets without a defenseman who has been effective on both ends of the ice. With 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists) in 71 games, Severson has enjoyed one of the best offensive campaigns of his career, and the 31-year-old is third on the Columbus roster with 86 blocks. Jake Christiansen or Egor Zamula will compete for a spot in the lineup during Severson's absence. Meanwhile, Denton Mateychuk and Dante Fabbro are candidates for increased ice time.

Damon Severson Exits With Upper-Body Injury Thursday

Severson scored the Blue Jackets' only goal of the game in the first period but left the action in the third. The 31-year-old has been very productive lately, recording three goals and two assists over the last five games. He has posted 32 points (eight goals, 24 assists) in 71 games for the season. Egor Zamula or Jake Christiansen will get a chance to play if Severson misses additional time, while Denton Mateychuk could be his replacement on the second power-play unit.

Damon Severson Back for Blue Jackets Thursday

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson (illness) is ready to re-enter the lineup on Thursday against the Vancouver Canucks. He missed Tuesday's victory over the Calgary Flames due to illness. Severson is a solid top-four piece for Columbus and will skate with Ivan Provorov. Additionally, he will rejoin the second power-play unit. Severson has collected 17 points (three goals, 14 assists) in 45 appearances, with 59 shots, 48 blocks, and 31 hits. The Blue Jackets' defense will also welcome back Erik Gudbranson (hip) on Thursday night. He will join the third defensive pairing after missing nearly three months with a hip injury. Egor Zamula and Dysin Mayo will exit the lineup.

Damon Severson Ruled Out For Six Weeks

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson is set to miss approximately six weeks of action due to an oblique injury, the team announced on Tuesday. Severson was injured in Sunday's matchup against Philadelphia. The 29-year-old has done well at both ends for Columbus and boasts eight points (three goals, five assists) in 19 games for the season. Adam Boqvist could get a larger role with Severson out of commission and worked with Zach Werenski on the first defensive pairing during Tuesday's practice session.

Damon Severson Sustains An Upper-Body Injury

Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Damon Severson suffered an upper-body injury in Sunday's 5-2 loss to Philadelphia. He was able to log only 9:57 of action in the contest. The Blue Jackets took their ninth consecutive loss, and the injury to Severson was another blow, as he's one of only a couple of players on the roster who have actually performed well during a miserable campaign. In 19 outings, Severson has posted eight points (three goals, five assists) with 21 shots, 35 blocks, and a plus-one rating. He and forward Justin Danforth are the only players to register a positive plus/minus during the team's 4-11-4 start to the season.

Damon Severson Shines In Return From Injury Tuesday

New Jersey Devils defenseman Damon Severson made his season debut after recovering from a preseason injury on Tuesday. He made quite the impact as the defenseman scored a goal with two shots on goal in 17:05 of ice time. His presence on the ice was calming, as Severson was able to make several offensive plays and keep the puck moving up the ice. Expect his workload to increase gradually. Also, Severson will see more time on the power play as the week goes along and he gets more practice time.
