David Kampf News
The Toronto Maple Leafs will get a pair of injured veterans back on Tuesday as center David Kampf (undisclosed) and defenseman Mark Giordano will return for a clash with the visiting St. Louis Blues. Kampf hasn't played since the club's final game prior to the All-Star break due to an undisclosed injury. The bottom-six pivot has notched four goals and eight points across 46 games this season after recording a career-high 27 points while skating in all 82 games last season. Giordano, the league's oldest player, sat out Saturday's loss versus the Ottawa Senators. The former Flames captain has recorded one goal and six points on the season but has also recorded 72 blocks in 34 games. The team also announced defenseman Conor Timmins will be out indefinitely due to mononucleosis.
Toronto Maple Leafs center David Kampf will miss at least a week with an undisclosed injury, as per head coach Sheldon Keefe. Keefe stated an MRI found something that usually takes a couple of weeks to recover from but the team has already been off since Jan. 27 due to a bye week and subsequent All-Star break. He will be listed as day-to-day once one week has passed. The veteran has been deployed as the Leafs' fourth-line center this season and has just four goals and eight points across 46 games. Additionally, his ice time has dropped from 15:18 last season to 13:06 per game this time around. Another Maple Leafs bottom-six forward, Calle Jarnkrok, is already sidelined indefinitely with a broken hand.
Toronto Maple Leafs center David Kampf has inked a four-year extension worth $9.6 million. He is coming off a two-year, $3 million contract and was set to be an unrestricted free agent. The deal means that the Maple Leafs have locked up a solid bottom-six forward with a very affordable $2.4 million cap hit. Kampf produced seven goals and 27 points in 82 games last season while winning 51.5 percent of his faceoffs. The 28-year-old has appeared in 399 regular-season games in total in the NHL, putting up 35 goals and 111 points. Toronto also announced on Wednesday that forward Pontus Holmberg, who had 13 points in 37 games last season, has been signed to a two-year deal worth $1.6 million.
