Klim Kostin News
Detroit Red Wings forward Klim Kostin (upper body) has been activated from Injured Reserve and will be eligible to rejoin the action on Sunday versus the Maple Leafs. Kostin last played on Dec. 18 against Anaheim. The 24-year-old has featured 23 times in total this season, scoring two goals and dishing out one assist, while averaging 8:40 of ice time per game as a fourth-liner. Kostin's return gives Detroit another healthy body, but he plays a very minuscule role for the team and doesn't have any fantasy value.
The Detroit Red Wings acquired forwards Kailer Yamamoto and Klim Kostin from the Edmonton Oilers Thursday for future considerations. The move helped Edmonton to clear some cap space, with Yamamoto having a year to go on his contract with a $3.1 million cap hit. Kostin is a restricted free agent. Both are relatively young players at 24 years old and should fit in well in a youthful Red Wings squad. Yamamoto is set to challenge for a top-six spot, while Kostin could see increased usage as well after averaging only 10:03 of ice time last season.
Edmonton Oilers winger Klim Kostin made the biggest impact offensively when the team secured its second-round ticket with a 5-4 victory over the Kings Saturday. The Russian forward logged only 8:44 of ice time, but he was incredibly productive with the limited playing time, scoring twice and registering one assist. Kostin's second goal came when the Kings had battled back from a 3-1 deficit, and he completed his three-point effort with an assist on Kailer Yamamoto's game-winner 3:03 from the end of regulation. Kostin scored with both of his attempts on target and his line also included two hits. The 23-year-old completed the series with three goals and four points in six games. He had seven shots on goal in total and recorded 20 hits.
Edmonton Oilers winger Klim Kostin (illness) appears on track to return to the lineup Monday versus Boston. The Russian winger has been unavailable for five games with a non-COVID illness, but he has been back in practice and should be available again against the Bruins. Kostin has had a very limited role with the Oilers, averaging only 10:39 of ice time per game, but he is slated to return on a line with Leon Draisaitl and Zach Hyman, which puts him in a great position to perform. The 23-year-old has so far skated in 38 games this season, scoring nine goals and handing out five assists.
