A.J. Minter News
The Atlanta Braves recalled relief pitcher A.J. Minter from Triple-A on Tuesday. Fellow reliever Shane Greene was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Minter has struggled in the majors this year. Over 42 appearances, he has posted a 4.86 ERA and a 1.44 WHIP while averaging 10 K/9. However, he was pitching well at Triple-A prior to his call-up. He pitched in seven games at Triple-A and recorded six saves while giving up no hits, three walks and no runs over 7.1 innings pitched. He struck out 10 batters over his seven appearances. Minter will be one of the team's setup men in front of closer Will Smith and could work his way into high leverage work if he is effective.
Atlanta Braves relief pitcher A.J. Minter was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett following Sunday's game, the team announced on Twitter. Minter has been struggling all year long in Atlanta, posting a 4.86 ERA and 1.44 WHIP over 33 1/3 innings of work. July has been his worst month of the season, as he's allowed three runs on seven hits and three walks with five strikeouts in 4 1/3 innings of work. Minter really wasn't providing value even in SV/HLD formats, so this transaction won't have much impact in fantasy.
Atlanta Braves reliever A.J. Minter recorded his fifth hold of the season on Monday as the club held on to defeat the Chicago Cubs by the score of 8-7. The hard-throwing lefty has had an up-and-down season with two blown saves and five runs allowed in 10 1/3 innings. He's missed some bats with a 23% strikeout rate but he's also inducing ground-balls at a high rate (51%) which has helped him avoid the home run ball. Minter is coming off a 2020 season that saw him post a 0.83 ERA with a 28% strikeout rate in 22 games. He isn't an elite option out of the bullpen in fantasy leagues but he could help as a back-up option given that he appears in line for significant high-leverage usage.
