Andrelton Simmons News
Minnesota Twins shortstop Andrelton Simmons has arrived at camp after having issues obtaining his visa. Simmons isn't the only player who had such an issue, though the Curacao native seemed to have more trouble than most in getting the appointment for his issued visa. Manager Rocco Baldelli said that Simmons was able to put in some quality work during the delay- and that the team hopes to have him on the field this weekend. He's currently clearing the team's COVID protocols but will be good to go once he does that.
Minnesota Twins shortstop Andrelton Simmons still has yet to arrive at camp due to unresolved visa issues. The team is still awaiting word on when Simmons will get his visa appointment, which they believed would be on Friday- though it ultimately didn't materialize that way in what continues to be an unusually long case. Shortstops Nick Gordon, J.T. Riddle, and Andrew Romine have all handled the available reps in the spring so far in the absence of Simmons. While there's still a ways to go before Opening Day, it would be nice to see Simmons out there with his new teammates sooner rather than later.
Minnesota Twins shortstop Andrelton Simmons has been delayed to the team's camp by visa issues. The exact details are unclear at the moment, though manager Rocco Baldelli described it as "travel-related"- saying that it could take a few days to resolve. Simmons signed a one-year deal worth $10.5 million this offseason to be the new starting shortstop for Minnesota after dealing with ankle injuries in the shortened season before ultimately opting out. The 31-year-old makes more of an impact with his glove than his bat- no shortstop has had more than his 191 defensive runs saved through age 30- though he's batted .281 over the last five seasons with 51 stolen bases while posting a strikeout rate below 12.6 percent in each year. Simmons is more of an option in deeper mixed leagues.
