Casey Schmitt Exits With Apparent Knee Injury on Monday

San Francisco Giants infielder/outfielder Casey Schmitt (knee) was removed from Monday's game early against the Milwaukee Brewers after he was shaken up while rounding first base hard and then slamming on the brakes, according to Justice delos Santos of The San Jose Mercury News. Schmitt appeared to injure his knee, but we should get an update on his condition either after the game or early on Tuesday. Before being pulled, he went 1-for-1 at the plate. Schmitt was replaced at the hot corner at Oracle Park by Christian Koss. Fantasy managers will be hoping that the 27-year-old's injury isn't serious. He's having his best season easily in the big leagues in 2026, coming into Monday's series opener versus Milwaukee with a .269/.299/.482 slash line with a .781 OPS, and career highs across the board in home runs (21), RBI (55), runs scored (47), and stolen bases (nine) in 97 games across 408 plate appearances. In addition to Schmitt putting up career-best numbers, he's eligible at first base, second base, third base, and the outfield in Yahoo leagues. He's currently rostered in 81% of Yahoo leagues as one of the most-added players off waivers in 2026.

Casey Schmitt Feeling Better, Back in Lineup Against Arizona

San Francisco Giants infielder/outfielder Casey Schmitt (illness) is starting at shortstop and is batting third for the Giants in Monday's series opener on the road against the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks and left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez, according to MLB.com. Schmitt was under the weather and didn't play on Sunday in the series finale against the Philadelphia Phillies, but he's back to begin the week and will move to the 6 with regular shortstop Willy Adames sitting due to back spasms. The 27-year-old is in the midst of a breakout in 2026 in his fourth year in the big leagues, slashing .290/.316/.508 with an .825 OPS, 16 home runs, 42 RBI, 37 runs scored, and seven stolen bases in 75 games across 313 plate appearances in a regular utility role for San Fran. He's not only having a career year, but he's eligible at first base, second base, third base, and the outfield in Yahoo leagues. Schmitt is hitting .280 (28-for-100) with four homers, three doubles, nine RBI, 10 runs, and two steals in 24 games in June and is batting .625 with a 2.042 OPS, two homers, and three RBI in just eight career at-bats against Rodriguez.

Casey Schmitt Dealing With Illness

San Francisco Giants infielder/outfielder Casey Schmitt (illness) was scratched from Sunday's series finale against the Atlanta Braves with an illness that has been going around the clubhouse, according to Shayna Rubin of the San Francisco Chronicle. With Schmitt sitting on Sunday, Jonah Cox joined the starting lineup and made the start in center field. Schmitt is under the weather, but he could be back in the starting nine for the Gigantes if he's feeling better for Monday's series opener on the road against the division-rival Arizona Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old former second-rounder in 2020 out of San Diego State University has had a breakout in 2026, currently slashing .290/.316/.508 with an .825 OPS, with career highs in home runs (16), RBI (42), runs scored (37), and stolen bases (seven) in 74 games played in his fourth year in the majors with San Fran. Schmitt's underlying metrics back up his breakout, too, as he's currently sporting an xBA of .297 and an xwOBA of .358. Check back on Monday to see if Schmitt is back in the Giants' starting lineup.

Casey Schmitt Continues Breakout Season With Two Homers on Friday

San Francisco Giants utility man Casey Schmitt continued his breakout 2026 campaign on Friday in the 18-3 blowout win over the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, going 4-for-6 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored, and a walk to raise his season average to .293 and his OPS to .884. The 27-year-old wasn't the only Giants player to have a monster day at the friendly confines of Wrigley, though, as both shortstop Willy Adames and third baseman Matt Chapman matched him with two-homer performances. It was quite the offensive display for the Gigantes, and just the third time in franchise history that three different players had two home runs in the same game. Schmitt has been on a heater this season and already has a career-high 15 long balls in 222 at-bats, adding 38 RBI, 31 runs scored, and five stolen bases in his 56 contests (237 plate appearances). Making him more attractive to fantasy managers is the fact that he's eligible at first, second, and third base, in addition to the outfield, in Yahoo leagues. Scoop him up if he's still available in your league.

Casey Schmitt Emerging as a Must-Add After Recent Hot Streak

San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt went 0-for-4 with an RBI in Friday's 9-4 loss to the Chicago White Sox. He had an RBI groundout in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving him 23 RBI on the season. The 27-year-old has been on fire at the plate, hitting .346 (9-for-26) with three home runs, five RBI, and four runs scored over his last six games. Overall, he's slashing .286/.329/.516 with nine home runs and three stolen bases across 173 plate appearances. The 27-year-old bats in the heart of the order, continues to play left field (four games so far in the OF) for the Giants, and qualifies at first, second, and third base already on Yahoo. With Schmitt hitting well and qualifying at multiple positions, he becomes a must-add in all formats as he's only rostered in just 45% of Yahoo Fantasy leagues.

Casey Schmitt Homers Twice on Saturday, Carrying Giants Offense

San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt has been carrying the Giants' offense this year, and he did it again in the team's 6-4 victory in Sacramento on Saturday night to defeat the hosting Athletics. Out of the three-hole in the batting order as the Giants' designated hitter, Schmitt went 4-for-5 at the plate with two home runs, three RBI, and a strikeout to raise his season average to .293 and his OPS to .878. The four-hit performance broke him out of an 0-for-9 slump in his last three games. Both of Schmitt's long balls came against A's right-handed starter Luis Severino. Right now, the 27-year-old former second-rounder in 2020 out of San Diego State is splitting time at DH with rookie first baseman Bryce Eldridge, but he can also play pretty much anywhere on the infield, and he has eligibility in Yahoo leagues at first base, second, and third. Schmitt is versatile on defense and has been productive with the bat so far in 2026, totaling eight home runs, 21 RBI, 19 runs scored, and three stolen bases. He's currently rostered in 35% of Yahoo leagues.

Casey Schmitt Cooling Off at the Plate

San Francisco Giants first baseman Casey Schmitt was one of the hottest hitters in baseball through April and early May, but he has cooled off lately and finds himself in a bit of a slump. Over his last six games, Schmitt is just 3-for-23 with zero extra-base hits, zero RBI, one walk, and eight strikeouts. He had arguably his worst game of the season against the Dodgers on Thursday as he went 0-for-4 with four strikeouts. Thanks to his strong start this year, Schmitt still has a decent-looking .276/.329/.485 slash line with six home runs, three steals, a .346 xwOBA, and 131 wRC+. However, his production is falling fast, and fantasy managers would like to see him get back on track sooner rather than later. His roster share has fallen to 31% in fantasy baseball, and he now ranks #19 among first basemen in RotoBaller's latest rankings.

Casey Schmitt a Versatile Fantasy Option with Extra-Base Upside

San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt is off to an impressive start to the season at the plate, and his defensive versatility makes him a particularly appealing waiver wire option in fantasy baseball. After posting a mere .706 OPS last year, he's slashing .296/.344/.539 with six homers and 146 wRC+ in 2026. There are still some holes in his game, such as his 4.0% walk rate and 20.8% strikeout rate. He's also not very fast, swiping just two bags. Still, his potential to launch home runs (and deliver extra-base hits in general) bodes well for his fantasy outlook. He's also getting into the lineup on an everyday basis because of how well he's hitting. The 27-year-old is finally living up to his second-round draft capital, and it comes at a perfect time for fantasy managers looking for reinforcements in their lineup. In RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings for 2026, Schmitt is the #21 first baseman, #11 second baseman, and #16 third baseman. There's a good chance he's available for you on the waiver wire, because he's rostered in just 30% of leagues right now.

Casey Schmitt Establishing a New Level of Production with Strong Start to 2026

San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt has been one of the surprise success stories of the early portion of the 2026 season. Entering play on Sunday, Schmitt was hitting .317/.369/.517 with two home runs, seven RBI, seven runs scored, and one stolen base. The 27-year-old's strong production is supported by his underlying metrics, as he's posted above-average barrel (11.4%) and hard-hit (52.3%) rates. Schmitt has also moved into the heart of the Giants' lineup, which should allow him to rack up counting stats more consistently. While Schmitt has played exclusively at first base and designated hitter in 2026, he's capable of playing every infield spot and still offers fantasy managers multi-positional eligibility. As a cheap depth piece with some upside, Schmitt could be worth targeting on the waiver wire.

Casey Schmitt Gets Scratched with Back Tightness

San Francisco Giants infielder Casey Schmitt (back) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Friday's game against the New York Mets. Schmitt has been pulled from the lineup due to back tightness. This doesn't seem like something that will sideline him long, so fantasy managers should consider Schmitt as day-to-day. Jerar Encarnacion will take over at first base and bat ninth in place of Schmitt on Friday. Fantasy managers should check back on Saturday for another update, but Schmitt isn't someone who needs to be rostered in most fantasy formats at the moment.
