According to a tweet from WEEI's Rob Bradford, the Boston Red Sox have reportedly signed outfielder Christin Stewart to a minor-league contract. In 587 career plate appearances, all with the Detroit Tigers, Stewart has hit .225 with a .300 on-base percentage and 15 home runs. He didn't appear in the Majors last season but did bat .254 with a .339 on-base percentage, 21 home runs, a pair of stolen bases, and a 127 wRC+ in 343 plate appearances for Detroit's Triple-A affiliate. Boston's current outfield options on the 40-man roster include Alex Verdugo, Jarren Duran, Enrique Hernandez, Tim Locastro, Hunter Renfroe, Jeisson Rosario, and J.D. Martinez.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Christin Stewart was optioned to Triple-A Toledo earlier this month. Stewart has split his past three years primarily between Triple-A and the Tigers. He's shown some significant power upside at Triple-A. Over 125 games with Toledo in 2018, he mashed 25 home runs and had a .488 slugging percentage. Stewart appeared in 10 games with the Tigers this spring before his demotion. He went 3-for-18 with no extra-base hits and 10 strikeouts. The Tigers have more depth than usual at outfield this year, so Stewart would need a major hot streak and some injuries in order to return to the Tigers roster in 2021.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Christin Stewart (concussion) was activated from the seven-day injured list on Thursday and optioned to Triple-A Toledo. He's expected to be back in Detroit when rosters expand on Sept. 1. In the meantime, Victor Reyes, Travis Demeritte and Harold Castro will continue to see everyday at-bats for the rebuilding club. Stewart has a slash line of .239/.321/.393 with seven home runs, 27 runs and 33 RBI for Detroit in 81 games this year. When he's back on the major league roster, expect him to see at least semi-regular time in the final month as the club evaluates their young outfield options heading into next season.
The Detroit Tigers placed outfielder Christin Stewart on the seven-day concussion injured list on Wednesday and called up outfielder Victor Reyes from the minors in a corresponding move. Stewart is hitting .239/.321/.393 with seven home runs, 27 runs and 33 RBI in 285 at-bats this year and is only useful in AL-only leagues. With him on the shelf and Nicholas Castellanos traded to the Cubs on Wednesday, Reyes should play nearly every day and could be an option for the desperate in AL-only leagues. The 23-year-old Reyes has hit .254 with no homers and four RBI in 59 big league at-bats in 2019. For Triple-A Toledo he was hitting .304/.334/.481 with 10 long balls, 58 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 74 games.
Christin Stewart Returns, Niko Goodrum Out Thursday
Detroit Tigers outfielder Christin Stewart is back in the lineup Thursday after an off day Wednesday, while infielder Niko Goodrum is out of the lineup for the first time since June 18. Goodrum has been playing shortstop, a position filled by Harold Castro (batting seventh) Thursday. Stewart is batting cleanup against Rangers starter Ariel Jurado and, thanks to the platoon advantage as well, is perhaps the only DFS-worthy option in an anemic Tigers lineup despite Jurado's mediocrity.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Christin Stewart launched his fourth home run of the year as part of a three-hit effort against the Braves on Sunday. The young slugger has shown monstrous power at times, but has lacked consistency thus far. He's slashing .241/.325/.429 in 38 games this season and seems likely to eventually develop into a real power threat, but unless you play in a dynasty format Stewart can be left on the wire.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Christin Stewart had one of his best games of the season in Saturday's 10-5 loss to the Braves. The 25-year-old left fielder went 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and two RBI. He also struck out twice, which has been a problem for the second-year pro this year, as his strikeout rate is at 23.3 percent. He was also caught stealing. Stewart has struggled much of this season, however, he had a good past week, posting a slash line of .296/.406/.407. The 2015 first-round selection is definitely worth watching and is a possible add in deep leagues if he can improve his batting average.
Christin Stewart Back In Lineup, Niko Goodrum Leading Off
Detroit Tigers outfielder Christin Stewart (quadriceps) is back in the starting lineup on Friday, playing left field and hitting second against Twins starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi. Niko Goodrum is hitting leadoff, while slumping third baseman Jeimer Candelario is dropped to the No. 6 spot. Stewart is hitting just .218 this year in his 55 at-bats with three homers and 13 RBI. He's a mediocre DFS target in his first game back from the injured list. Goodrum sees a DFS boost on Friday, but he's hitting only .227 with three homers, 11 RBI and three steals on the year. Candelario, who is 4-for-28 (.143) with 10 strikeouts and four walks this month, should be benched until further notice.
Jordy Mercer Goes On Injured List, Christin Stewart Reinstated
Detroit Tigers shortstop Jordy Mercer(quadriceps) has been placed on the 10-day injured list with a right quadriceps strain, retroactive to May 8. In a corresponding move, the team has recalled outfielder Christin Stewart (quadriceps). It was reported earlier Thursday morning that Stewart would come back Friday, but the injury to Mercer has him back sooner than expected. Mercer has been solid defensively but hasn't contributed at the plate. Stewart has plenty of power, but not much else. Neither player is recommended in most formats. Ronny Rodriguez, who has been hitting well so far, will see more run at the 6 with Mercer out.
Detroit Tigers outfielder Christin Stewart (quad) is set to rejoin the team on Thursday after being shelved since mid-April. He was with the team on Tuesday, but went back to Florida to finish out his rehab assignment in Lakeland. The young slugger has hit .222/.313/.519 with three home runs on the season and isn't likely to contribute much outside of dingers in 2019, but the potential is certainly there and worth looking at in dynasty formats.
