Niko Goodrum News
Detroit Tigers utility man Niko Goodrum led off for the first time this season on Tuesday against lefty J.A. Happ and the Minnesota Twins. He got the start in left field and later shifted over to second base. He went 3-for-5 with a run scored in the game. Goodrum has started three of the Tigers' five games so far this year. Expect him to continue to play at about that same rate throughout the year. His versatility makes him a valuable bench asset for the Tigers. Robbie Grossman is the team's primary leadoff hitter. He and Goodrum are both switch hitters, but Goodrum hits better against lefties, so we may see Goodrum get leadoff opportunities a good amount of the time when a lefty is on the mound.
Detroit Tigers infielder Niko Goodrum had a solid spring training debut on Monday against the New York Yankees. Goodrum started at shortstop in the game and hit fifth in the order. He went 2-for-2 with two singles, one RBI and a walk. Goodrum, who just turned 29 in February, had a rough year in 2020, slashing .184/.263/.335 with five home runs, 20 RBI, 15 runs and seven stolen bases in 43 games. He should play a super utility role for the Tigers this year and figures to be in the starting lineup for most games. He's a solid bounce-back candidate who has a chance to flirt with a 20/20 season.
Detroit Tigers shortstop Niko Goodrum was placed on the 10-day injured list prior to Saturdays contest versus the Twins due to a strained oblique. Goodrum last appeared Tuesday due to the ailment, allowing Willi Castro to take over on a full-time basis in Goodrums absence. Its been a slow start to 2020 at the dish for Detroits everyday shortstop, having slashed .186/.264/.381 through his first 31 contests. After having been dropped from the leadoff spot, Goodrum lost most of his DFS appeal, with season-long fantasy managers likely best served looking elsewhere down the stretch with the injury keeping him out for at least the next week.
