Mauricio Dubón News

Mauricio Dubon Could Spend Time In Outfield

San Francisco Giants manager Gabe Kapler said Monday that middle infielder Mauricio Dubon could see "quite a bit" of time at center field, per NBCSports.com's Alex Pavlovic. The 25-year-old has seen time at second base, shortstop, center field, and third base this preseason. The Giants view him as a flexible option who can fill playing time around their many veterans. This bodes well for Dubon's fantasy value, as he posted a .274/.306/.434 slash line with four home runs, nine RBI, and three steals in 111 plate appearances last season. While he isn't the most exciting fantasy option, Dubon is worth keeping an eye on in deeper leagues, especially with his potential multi-position eligibility.

Giants Calling Up Mauricio Dubon

The San Francisco Giants are calling up infield prospect Mauricio Dubon from the minors on Tuesday, according to sources. San Fran's No. 8 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, came over from the Brewers in the trade that involved pitcher Drew Pomeranz in July. The 25-year-old from Honduras has hit an impressive .302/.345/.477 with 20 home runs, 56 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 123 games at the Triple-A level in the Pacific Coast League this year. His above-average speed and ability to barrel the ball up to all fields gives him a high ceiling at the major league level. It remains to be seen how much playing time he'll get, but if he's playing regularly he should have some appeal in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.

Giants, Brewers Swap Drew Pomeranz, Mauricio Dubon

The San Francisco Giants traded pitchers Drew Pomeranz and Ray Black to the Milwaukee Brewers for infield prospect Mauricio Dubon. Pomeranz has a 5.68 ERA this season, but a 3.26 in June and July. Going from AT&T Park to Miller Park hurts his value more than the Brewers better supporting cast helps. Dubon, 25, is hitting .297/.333/.475 with nine steals on 15 attempts at Triple-A this season and is a deeper league option if he gets regular playing time in San Francisco. Black throws a 99 mph fastball but will be a middle reliever with no fantasy value.
