Braves Skipping Bryce Elder's Next Turn in the Rotation

The Atlanta Braves will skip right-hander Bryce Elder's next turn in the starting rotation after his velocity was noticeably down in his last start on June 27 against the San Francisco Giants, when he allowed five earned runs on five hits (two homers) while walking one and striking out four in four innings in his sixth loss of the season. The 27-year-old's next scheduled start this Friday against the division-rival New York Mets will go to right-hander Grant Holmes. Elder has a decent 4.01 ERA (3.98 FIP) and 1.23 WHIP with 83 strikeouts and 30 walks in 98 2/3 innings across 17 starts in 2026, but he has really struggled of late, surrendering 19 earned runs on 27 hits (five homers) while walking five and striking out 12 in 14 innings in his last three starts. If the Braves skip just one of Elder's starts to close out the first half of the season, his next outing should come next week against the Pittsburgh Pirates. In his first meeting against the Bucs at home on June 7, Elder allowed only two earned runs in six frames while walking two and fanning four for a no-decision.

Bryce Elder's Velocity Down, to be Skipped in Rotation?

The Atlanta Braves are expected to alter their starting rotation again this week after right-hander Bryce Elder lasted only four innings on Saturday and allowed five earned runs in his most recent outing against the San Francisco Giants, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Elder's velocity was down roughly one mph with each of his pitches. He has a 2.70 ERA in nine starts on regular rest and a 5.56 ERA in his other eight starts in 2026. But his drop in velocity over the weekend will likely lead the Braves to give him extra rest before his next appearance, per Bowman. The 27-year-old's ERA has risen from 1.97 to 4.01, and he's surrendered 29 earned runs in his last 30 innings for an 8.70 ERA. But from Aug. 24 of last year until May 22 of this year, Elder had a 2.30 ERA, which was the fifth-best ERA during that span. There's still reason to believe that Elder can turn things around after his recent rough stretch. If the Braves push Elder back, right-hander Hurston Waldrep is the top candidate to make a start for the Braves.

Bryce Elder Punches Out Six in Third Victory, Entering Must-Start Status?

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Bryce Elder picked up his third win of 2026 on Monday by going 6 2/3 innings in his team's 9-4 victory over the Washington Nationals. Elder allowed three hits, three earned runs, and two walks while striking out six. The 26-year-old is off to a very strong start to the season, as he's posted a 3-1 record with a 1.50 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and 29 strikeouts across 30 innings (five starts). Elder struggled to a 5.30 ERA across 156 innings with Atlanta in 2025, so some regression could be coming over a larger sample size. Still, the lefty has improved his strikeout rate by a considerable margin and has a good chance to pick up wins every time he takes the mound while pitching for the Braves. Elder profiles as a waiver wire target in leagues where he's not already rostered.

Bryce Elder Takes Tough-Luck No-Decision Against Phillies

Atlanta Braves right-hander Bryce Elder was on his game in a tough matchup on the road against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies on Friday, but he gave his team a chance to win in an eventual 2-1 loss at Citizens Bank Park. Elder gave up just one earned run on three hits while walking two and striking out three in seven innings for a tough-luck no-decision. Elder threw 58 of his 96 pitches on the evening for strikes and kept the Phillies off balance despite not racking up many punchouts. The 26-year-old has had quality starts in four of his six outings in the month of August, but it has amounted to only a 4.82 ERA with 26 K's and 12 walks in 37 1/3 innings pitched. Elder's surface stats on the year don't look good, as he's recorded a 5.85 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with only 99 strikeouts and 47 walks in 124 2/3 frames over his 23 starts. He'll have another tough outing his next time out against the Seattle Mariners.

Bryce Elder Records 12 Strikeouts in No-Decision

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Bryce Elder looked nearly untouchable on the mound during Saturday's game against the San Francisco Giants. Elder was nearly perfect outside of giving up a solo home run to Wilmer Flores in the fourth inning. Outside of that, Elder would throw eight innings, allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out 12 batters. It was an excellent performance on the mound and the 12 punchouts were a career-high for Elder. He'll now take a 4.08 ERA, 1.17 WHIP, and 46/16 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Colorado Rockies. Elder figures to be a popular waiver wire addition with a favorable matchup versus the struggling Rockies offense coming up.

Bryce Elder to Start on Sunday

Atlanta Braves right-hander Bryce Elder will be called up from Triple-A Gwinnett to make the start in Sunday's series finale against the visiting Boston Red Sox, according to 929 The Game's Grant McAuley. Elder will make his ninth start of the 2025 season and will have a shot to stick around in Atlanta's starting rotation for the long term with AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow) officially done for the rest of the season. In Elder's first eight starts over 44 innings, he's posted a 4.50 ERA (4.90 FIP) and 1.25 WHIP with 33 strikeouts and 13 walks while going 2-2. The 26-year-old is a ground-ball pitcher who gave up too many fly balls last year on his way to a career-worst 6.52 ERA and 1.63 WHIP in 49 2/3 innings. He's not going to blow hitters away, either, which limits his fantasy upside. However, in deep-mixed leagues, Elder is worth a waiver-wire pickup now that he could stick in the rotation for the rest of the season.

Bryce Elder Picks Up First Win Of The Season On Monday

Atlanta Braves right-hander Bryce Elder turned in a quality start in a 6-3 win over the Colorado Rockies on Monday. Elder allowed three runs on five hits over six innings while striking out four and walking two to pick up the win. The veteran picked up seven swinging strikes on the way to improving his record to 1-1, to go along with a 5.33 ERA, 1.41 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts over 27 innings of work this season. With a bloated ERA and low strikeout rate, Elder isn't of much interest in fantasy unless it is as a streaming option in plus matchups.

Ian Anderson, AJ Smith-Shawver, Bryce Elder Candidates To Start Against Padres

Atlanta Braves right-handers Ian Anderson, AJ Smith-Shawver and Bryce Elder are all candidates to start Game 1 of the wild-card series against the San Diego Padres at Petco Park on Tuesday. Anderson has some of the best postseason numbers of all time, but he hasn't pitched in the big leagues since 2022. The Braves may wait as long as possible to announce their starter against the Padres. Anderson has a 1.26 ERA in 35 2/3 innings pitched in the postseason, including a 1.04 WHIP with 40 strikeouts and 17 walks, but he'd be a pretty big dice role for Atlanta to kick off the three-game series. In 15 minor-league stops at four different levels this year, he had a 3.44 ERA and 1.28 WHIP with 68 strikeouts and 29 walks in 68 innings. Smith-Shawver made just one start for Atlanta this year and has six starts since debuting in 2023. Elder was an All-Star in 2023 but had an ERA over 6.00 in his 10 starts this year.

Bryce Elder Gets Rocked In Loss

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Bryce Elder was hit hard in Tuesday's loss versus the Milwaukee Brewers. The former All-Star only last 3 2/3 innings, in which he allowed eight hits, seven runs, two walks and struck out six. Besides for the strikeouts, Elder didn't offer anything for managers who were bold enough to start Elder. Brewers' shortstop Willy Adames was the biggest kryptonite for Elder, hitting a pair of two-run homers off the right-hander. Elder has spent 2024 between the big-league club and Triple-A Gwinnett this season, but is currently slated to face the Colorado Rockies in Coors Field on Sunday and should be avoided at all costs in that matchup.

Bryce Elder Recalled From Triple-A

With the Atlanta Braves placing pitcher Reynaldo Lopez (forearm) on the 15-day injured list, Bryce Elder was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday. Elder has bounced around from the major league roster this season, where he has made 10 appearances with Triple-A Gwinnett and nine appearances with the Braves. The results haven't necessarily been there for the right-hander in the big leagues this year, as he owns a 5.67 ERA and 40 strikeouts across 46 innings pitched. With Lopez landing on the IL, Elder should be in line to take his spot in the rotation. However, he should only be added in deeper formats.
