Didier Fuentes Nearing Return to MLB Following Scratch From Triple-A Start

Atlanta Braves right-handed starting pitcher Didier Fuentes is on the verge of a return to the major leagues. On Sunday, the young right-hander saw his Triple-A start scratched as the Braves are entering a stretch of 10 games in 10 straight days. While a promotion has yet to be confirmed, managers should pay close attention to his status over the coming days, as a return could be imminent. Fuentes broke camp with the MLB roster but was deployed in a long relief role before being optioned back to Triple-A to further increase his workload. With Triple-A, Fuentes has looked quite comfortable as of late, logging 16 2/3 innings (three starts), while allowing just four runs and posting a 20:6 K:BB. Last summer, Fuentes made his MLB debut but looked quite overmatched, allowing 20 runs over 13 innings. For now, Fuentes is a viable stash option in all 12-team leagues.

Didier Fuentes Could Join Braves Next Week

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Didier Fuentes had his start with Triple-A Gwinnett skipped on Sunday. The Braves are in the midst of a stretch of 10 games in 10 days. With that being said, Fuentes could be needed to make a spot start or help out as a long relief option in the bullpen. The 20-year-old has already made one appearance for the Braves this season out of the bullpen. He has looked outstanding as a full-time starter in Triple-A so far this season. If he does get the call to start next week, Fuentes could be an interesting streaming option. He won't be an ideal long-term option with Spencer Strider (oblique) working his way back soon. Fantasy managers should stay tuned to see if Fuentes is asked to join the big league club this week.

Didier Fuentes a High-End Pitching Prospect Worth Stashing

Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Didier Fuentes ran into some trouble in his latest start at Triple-A Gwinnett, yielding four runs in the first inning alone, but settled in and tossed six shutout innings after that. Outside of that one inning of trouble, the Braves' third-ranked prospect has thrown 15 2/3 innings of scoreless ball and has produced a 20:6 K:BB overall. The right-hander has already made one appearance earlier this season with the Braves and made his MLB debut in June last year, days after he turned 20 years old. Veteran Martin Perez appears to be the current placeholder in the fifth spot of the rotation for now, but having been DFA'd once already this season, his hold on the job is tenuous. So long as Fuentes continues to pitch well, the Colombian should be the next name the team turns to. With major league experience already and strikeout upside that is paired with solid control (7.3 percent career walk rate in the minors), Fuentes is a strong stash option in deeper leagues ahead of his eventual return to the big leagues.

Didier Fuentes Entering Must-Stash Territory Amid Dominant Stretch at Triple-A

Atlanta Braves right-handed pitching prospect Didier Fuentes is seeing his value as a stash candidate soar in Week 3 of the fantasy season. The budding ace in the Atlanta system has looked quite sharp with Triple-A and is knocking on the MLB door. Over the last two outings, Fuentes has logged at least six innings of work and has allowed just four runs over 13 total frames while striking out 13 hitters. Fuentes opened the regular season in Atlanta as a reliever but was optioned to Triple-A to further increase his workload. Seeing him quickly increase his pitch count with Triple-A Gwinnett suggests the Braves view him as a potential starting option in the near future. With Atlanta having several starting pitchers on the injured list, such as Spencer Strider (oblique), Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), and Hurston Waldrep (elbow), Fuentes could return to Atlanta in the coming weeks. His increasing strikeout upside and workload make him an elite pitching prospect to stash in all formats.

Didier Fuentes to be Back Up With the Braves Soon?

Braves reporter Harrison Smajovits said on Thursday that the expectation is that right-handed pitching prospect Didier Fuentes will be back with the Atlanta Braves next week, per a source. The Braves' pitching rotation has been solid on the season with a 2.03 team ERA, but has dealt with its fair share of injuries, with Spencer Strider (oblique) starting the regular season on the injured list, and Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) undergoing surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. Fuentes was highly regarded coming into the regular season after breaking out in Spring Training, where he had a 0.66 ERA, 0.22 WHIP, and a 41.9 percent strikeout rate in 13 2/3 innings pitched. He started the season with the Braves and threw in one relief outing against the Kansas City Royals on March 29, where he allowed one earned run in four innings pitched with four strikeouts. The Braves then optioned him to Triple-A to stretch him out into a starter's workload. Fuentes has the strikeout upside to be a potential sleeper off the waiver wire if called up, and would become a must-add in all 12-team formats if called up and plugged into the starting rotation, simply based on what he has shown so far this season through Spring and his first relief appearance for the Braves earlier this year.

Didier Fuentes Fans Eight, Remains a Sneaky Stash Candidate?

Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Didier Fuentes was a bit erratic in his second start for Triple-A Gwinnett, but overall turned in another impressive outing. The Braves' third-ranked prospect allowed two hits, four walks, and he hit a batter, but yielded no runs and struck out eight in six innings of work. Through two starts, the right-hander has yet to allow a run and owns a 15:5 K:BB in 9 2/3 innings pitched. With the Braves' rotation depleted by injury in 2025, the 6-foot Colombian had a four-start debut with the team last season and has already made one relief appearance with the big league club in 2026, but was sent to Triple-A to get stretched out as a starter, as the rotation is again very much in need of help. The 20-year-old could be back in the majors soon if he continues to pitch well, and his strikeout upside should make him a viable stash option in deeper leagues.

Didier Fuentes Optioned to Triple-A

The Atlanta Braves have optioned right-handed pitching prospect Didier Fuentes to Triple-A Gwinnett. This is the corresponding move to make space on the 26-man roster after Atlanta selected the contract of left-handed starter Martin Perez. Fuentes was effective in his lone relief pitching appearance during the Braves' opening series. He tossed four innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one run on two hits and one walk. He also struck out four batters. At first, the decision to option Fuentes after such a strong outing may come as a surprise. However, it's consistent with the Braves' plan for building up Fuentes into a major league starter. It was previously reported that Fuentes would open the year in the majors as a reliever before returning to Triple-A to be stretched out as a starter. He'll presumably join Gwinnett's rotation, and we wouldn't be surprised to see him back in the majors (as a starter) after just a few Triple-A outings.

Didier Fuentes Will Eventually Stretch Out as a Starter in Triple-A

Atlanta Braves right-handed pitching prospect Didier Fuentes has made the Opening Day roster as a reliever, but Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports that the 20-year-old will eventually return to the minors to be stretched out. According to Bowman, the Braves want Fuentes "to spend the first couple weeks as a long reliever for Atlanta and then go to Triple-A Gwinnett to work as a starter." That's some deflating news for Braves fans and fantasy managers, as Fuentes is an appealing prospect who delivered nine scoreless innings this spring. The former international free agent out of Colombia has made just one professional relief appearance in the minors since 2023, so it's somewhat perplexing that the Braves are going to temporarily convert him to a reliever, just to send him back to Triple-A and stretch him out. Regardless, this news delays any potential fantasy breakout for Fuentes. Fantasy managers will have to exercise a little more patience.

Is Didier Fuentes Worth Stashing Through the Early Portion of 2026?

Atlanta Braves pitching prospect Didier Fuentes has made the team's Opening Day roster as a member of the bullpen. The 21-year-old was dominant in Grapefruit League action, recording nine shutout innings with 17 strikeouts, zero walks, and zero hits. While Fuentes will open the year in the bullpen, all 13 of his minor league appearances in 2025 came as a starter. The Braves are already thin in the rotation as they deal with injuries to key starters such as Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) and Hurston Waldrep (elbow). If Atlanta faces further injury or underperformance from any of its current starters, it would not be a surprise to see Fuentes stretched out for a return to the rotation. Depending on league size and format, fantasy managers may want to consider stashing Fuentes through the early portion of the season in case he earns a quick promotion from middle relief to the starting rotation.

Didier Fuentes Makes Braves' Opening Day Bullpen

Atlanta Braves right-handed pitching prospect Didier Fuentes has made the team's Opening Day roster at 20 years old and will be part of their bullpen, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN. Fuentes earned the spot by throwing nine shutout innings with no hits allowed, no walks, and 17 strikeouts in three outings in the Grapefruit League. The Colombian hurler will open in Atlanta's bullpen, but don't be surprised if he eventually makes starts for the Braves in 2026, given all the injuries to the likes of Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Hurston Waldrep (elbow), AJ Smith-Shawver (elbow), and Joey Wentz (knee). Per MLB Pipeline, Fuentes is the team's No. 3 prospect. He struggled in his big-league debut in 2025, allowing 20 earned runs on 23 hits (six homers) while walking six and striking out 12 in 13 innings over four starts. Fuentes has a high-90s fastball with deception, giving him plenty of swing-and-miss potential. His secondary pitches are a work in progress. Fuentes is an arm to keep an eye on in mixed leagues going into the 2026 season.
