Grant Holmes to Make Another Start on Friday

Atlanta Braves right-hander Grant Holmes will return to the starting rotation for Friday's series opener to take on the division-rival New York Mets, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. The Braves skipped Holmes' last turn through the starting rotation, and he tossed four scoreless innings with no walks and four strikeouts out of the bullpen on June 27 against the San Francisco Giants in his most recent outing. The 30-year-old will make another start against the last-place Mets in an enticing matchup this weekend, but after that, it seems the Braves prefer to move him to the bullpen on a more permanent basis for the second half of the season now that right-hander Hurston Waldrep is back in the picture. Holmes will be a pretty intriguing fantasy streamer against the Mets on Friday, but length could be an issue. He's gone 4-4 this year with a 3.96 ERA (5.19 FIP) and 1.36 WHIP with 69 strikeouts and 37 walks in 77 1/3 innings pitched across 16 appearances (15 starts). Holmes has a career-low 20.7% strikeout rate in 2026 in his third year in the league and a career-high 11.1% walk rate.

Grant Holmes Could Return to a Starting Role Next Week

Atlanta Braves manager Walt Weiss said on Saturday that right-hander Grant Holmes will be available for the team out of the bullpen in a relief role this weekend, according to Chad Bishop of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. If Holmes doesn't pitch in relief this weekend, he will be available to start next week on the Braves' homestand that runs from Tuesday, June 30, through Monday, July 6. Atlanta is giving the 30-year-old a mini-break from a starting role after slowing down of late. He only allowed one earned run in his last outing on June 22 on the road in San Diego against the Padres in a loss, but he went just 4 2/3 frames, and he has allowed 12 earned runs on 23 hits (five homers) while walking 13 and striking out 17 in 21 innings pitched in his last five starts. Holmes hasn't provided much length, either, not going beyond 4 2/3 frames in any of his last three starts. If he does not appear out of the bullpen this weekend, his next turn through the Braves' rotation would come in Tuesday's series opener versus the St. Louis Cardinals. Holmes, who has a 4.17 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and career-low 20.2% strikeout rate in 15 starts this year, will obviously be a shaky streaming option for fantasy managers if he starts that game.

Grant Holmes on a Roll, Strikes Out 10 on Saturday Against Nats

Atlanta Braves right-hander Grant Holmes had a third straight strong start on Saturday in his outing at Truist Park against the division-rival Washington Nationals in his team's 2-0 shutout loss. Despite losing his second game of the 2026 season, Holmes made his fantasy managers happy, allowing two earned runs on six hits (two homers) while walking two and striking out a season-high 10 in five innings of work. The 30-year-old veteran allowed two solo home runs to Washington, but otherwise, he was strong, generating 18 swings and misses on 87 total pitches. Since allowing a season-high six runs (five earned) on May 1 against the Colorado Rockies at hitter-friendly Coors Field, Holmes has given up just four earned runs on 12 hits (three homers) while walking seven and fanning 19 in 15 innings in his last three starts. He has gone more than five innings just four times in his 10 starts this year, but Holmes has allowed three or fewer runs in nine of his appearances for Atlanta, and he now holds a 3.78 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 48:24 K:BB in 52 1/3 frames. Consider him when looking for a matchup-based streamer down the road.

Grant Holmes Being Skipped on Wednesday

Atlanta Braves right-hander Grant Holmes' spot in the starting rotation is being skipped on Wednesday in the matchup on the road in Seattle against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park, with veteran left-hander Martin Perez getting the nod in the series finale. It doesn't mean that Holmes is heading to the bullpen, though, and he could make his next start this weekend in L.A. in an even tougher matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Holmes isn't injured, but the Braves might want to give him a little extra rest before his next outing after he failed to get into the sixth inning in three of his last four starts. The 30-year-old former 22nd overall pick by the Dodgers in 2014 has struggled mightily of late to raise his season ERA to 4.34 and his WHIP to 1.31 in seven starts across 37 1/3 innings pitched. Holmes has fanned 29 and walked 17. If he does make his next start against the Dodgers this weekend on the road, fantasy managers should be looking to bench him.

Is Grant Holmes an Undervalued Source of Strikeouts Heading into 2026?

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes had his 2025 season cut short after he suffered a partially torn UCL in his elbow in late July. However, the 29-year-old opted against surgery and is reportedly fully healthy and ready to go heading into 2026. Before getting injured last season, Holmes pitched to a 4-9 record with a 3.99 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, and 123 strikeouts across 115 innings (21 starts). Command was an issue for the right-hander, as he logged an inflated 11% walk rate. However, Holmes showed an ability to miss bats with a 25% strikeout rate, and he's logged 16 strikeouts across 12 1/3 innings so far this spring. With Braves starters Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) and Hurston Waldrep (elbow) both going down in Spring Training with elbow injuries, Holmes should be locked into a spot in the Atlanta rotation. Holmes carries significant injury risk himself, but he could be a quality late-round source of strikeouts for fantasy managers to target in drafts heading into 2026.

Grant Holmes Will be in Opening Day Starting Rotation

Atlanta Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos confirmed that right-hander Grant Holmes (elbow) will be in the team's Opening Day starting rotation, according to Gabe Burns of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Holmes dealt with a partially torn UCL in his right elbow late last season and missed the final two months, but he was able to avoid surgery and is now ready to rock for the start of the 2026 campaign. The 29-year-old went 4-9 with a 3.99 ERA (4.40 FIP) and 1.34 WHIP with 123 strikeouts and 54 walks in 115 innings over 22 appearances (21 starts) before his elbow injury in his second year in the big leagues. Holmes will have a starting role to begin the year, but he'll be a major injury risk and a good bet to regress if his walk rate is anywhere near what it was in 2025 (11%). Fantasy managers in mixed leagues should avoid Holmes.

Grant Holmes has No Restrictions, Could Claim Rotation Role

Atlanta Braves pitcher Grant Holmes (elbow) was diagnosed with a partially torn UCL last season and shut down at the end of July. He opted not to undergo surgery, instead resting and rehabbing, and now he wonders if it was a pre-existing condition, based on his quick recovery so quickly. The 29-year-old righty has no restrictions coming into spring training and could end up in the starting rotation that has already lost Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow) for an extended period of time to start the season. Holms will join Reynaldo L pez, Spencer Strider, and Chris Sale as the established rotation pieces, with Bryce Elder, Hurston Waldrep, and Joey Wentz competing for the fifth spot. Holmes went 4-9 with a 3.99 ERA, 4.40 FIP, and 123 strikeouts in his 115 innings last season. How well his elbow responds to the spring workload will be critical to monitor to see if he breaks camp in the starting rotation for the Braves.

Grant Holmes Hopes to Throw Sim Games by November

Atlanta Braves right-hander Grant Holmes (elbow) is out for the season after landing on the 60-day injured list on July 27 with a partial tear of his UCL. Holmes, who has opted to take the rest-and-rehab route instead of undergoing elbow surgery, is optimistic that he'll be able to return next season. The 29-year-old expects to begin the important step of throwing simulated games in the fall, as he told David O'Brien of The Athletic that he's targeting "the beginning of November." There is always the possibility of Holmes needing surgery sometime before next season, which would likely wipe out his 2026 campaign. If his rehab is successful, though, the former first-round pick will try to build on a season in which he registered a 3.99 ERA with 123 strikeouts over a career-high 21 starts and 115 innings. In his most memorable start of 2025, Holmes punched out 15 Colorado Rockies in just 6 1/3 innings on June 15. He took the loss despite allowing only two earned runs.

Grant Holmes To Non-Surgically Rehabilitate his Elbow

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution's Olivia Sayer reported Monday that Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Grant Holmes (elbow) will opt for non-surgical rehabilitation of his right elbow inflammation. Holmes was placed on the 60-day injured list on July 27, so his season would have been over regardless of his rehab approach. The 29-year-old popped onto fantasy radars in 2024 and he had logged a 3.99 ERA, a 1.34 WHIP, and a 25.0% strikeout rate in 115 innings pitched this season before landing on the IL. Fantasy managers should check in next spring for more info on his rehab.

Grant Holmes Placed on 60-Day IL

The Atlanta Braves have placed right-hander Grant Holmes (elbow) on the 60-day injured list due to right elbow inflammation. Holmes reported tightness following his start against the Rangers on Saturday, where he allowed four runs on six hits and two walks with two strikeouts over four innings. Now in his second year with Atlanta, Holmes owns a 3.99 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 22 appearances. The 29-year-old has seen a sharp increase in his walk rate, jumping from 1.98 to 4.23 per nine innings. That trend may help explain his inconsistency at the major league level.
