Martin Perez Likely Headed to Injured List

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Martin Perez (elbow) is expected to be placed on the 15-day Injured List, according to manager Walt Weiss. Perez was forced to make an early exit from Sunday's outing after he was hit by a comebacker in the forearm. He was pulled out of the game and underwent X-rays, which came back negative. Despite the news on the X-rays, the Braves are still likely opting to place Perez on the shelf. They don't have any off days this week, so they could use another healthy arm ahead of the All-Star break. This is expected to be a minimal stint on the Injured List for Perez. He should be back shortly after the All-Star break, but the Braves should give more information on his status later.

Martin Perez Emerging as a Priority Waiver-Wire Target Amidst Resurgent Season?

Atlanta Braves left-hander Martin Perez has been one of the key parts of his team's success so far in 2026. Across 68 innings (15 games), the veteran has recorded a 6-3 record with a 2.78 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, and 56 strikeouts. Atlanta deployed Perez out of the bullpen at earlier points in the year, but he's now made six consecutive starts and appears to have locked down a role in the team's rotation. Perez's underlying metrics suggest regression is likely, as he owns a middling 12.2% K-BB rate and has benefitted from an 81.1% strand rate, which is significantly higher than his career mark of 71.3%. Still, Perez is a savvy veteran who has outperformed underwhelming peripherals for a significant portion of his 15-season MLB career. As long as he's part of the Braves rotation, Perez profiles as a worthwhile starting pitcher streamer who should be a quality source of wins. Particularly in deeper leagues, Perez should be a priority target for fantasy managers on the waiver wire.

Martin Perez Offers Matchup-Based Streaming Appeal on the Waiver Wire

Atlanta Braves left-hander Martin Perez has quietly been a key part of his team's success so far in 2026, recording a 5-3 record with a 2.90 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 51 strikeouts across 62 innings (14 games). The 35-year-old has been used as both a reliever and a starter this season, but now he's made five consecutive starts dating back to May 19 and looks to have established himself as a member of the Braves rotation. Perez's 20.8% strikeout rate in 2026 is the highest mark of his 15-year MLB career, so he does not offer much swing-and-miss upside for fantasy managers. Still, the veteran generates a ton of ground balls (46.7% ground ball rate) and limits home runs (0.87 HR/9). He also should have plenty of chances to pick up wins while pitching in Atlanta. Perez's numbers may regress a bit from where they currently sit, but he could still be a viable streaming option for fantasy managers in the right matchups.

Martin Perez a Worthy Deep-League Option

Atlanta Braves starting pitcher Martin Perez was supposed to take the mound against the Chicago White Sox on Thursday. That game was postponed due to weather. Instead, Perez is expected to take the mound for the series opener against the New York Mets on Friday. The veteran southpaw is an intriguing streaming option given his recent success. Over the last three starts, Perez owns a 3.45 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, with nine strikeouts over 15.2 innings of work. He also has strong career numbers against the Mets, with a 3.09 ERA across 43.2 innings against the Mets in his career. The lack of strikeouts will likely keep his overall ceiling lower, but Perez remains a fairly trustworthy option at the moment.

Martin Perez Called Up to Start on Friday for Braves

The Atlanta Braves selected the contract of veteran left-hander Martin Perez to the major-league roster on Friday, and he will make the start in the series opener against the division-rival Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park. Perez recently elected free agency after he cleared waivers, but the veteran southpaw re-signed with the Braves and will now make his third start of the 2026 season. The 35-year-old Venezuelan hurler has only six strikeouts in his 14 1/3 innings pitched for the Braves in his three appearances (two starts), but he's allowed only five earned runs on nine hits while walking four. We wouldn't recommend the soft-tossing veteran lefty as a fantasy streamer for Friday night's difficult matchup on the road against the Phils, but Perez could make a couple more starts for Atlanta until Spencer Strider (oblique) is ready to make his season debut later this month or in early May.

Martin Perez Re-Signs With Braves on Minor-League Deal

Left-hander Martin Perez cleared waivers on Tuesday, elected free agency, and has now re-signed with the Atlanta Braves on a minor-league deal, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. For now, Perez will most likely head to Triple-A Gwinnett to give the Braves experienced starting pitching depth going forward. The 35-year-old Venezuelan hurler handled himself well in his first three appearances (two starts) with Atlanta before being removed from the 40-man roster, allowing five earned runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out six in 14 1/3 innings pitched. Perez is in his 15th year in the big leagues, so he has plenty of experience, but for fantasy baseball purposes, there's not much upside. It remains to be seen if he'll get another opportunity for an extended stay in the starting rotation in the majors, and his career 16.3% strikeout rate won't attract fantasy managers.

Braves Designate Martin Perez for Assignment

The Atlanta Braves designated veteran left-hander Martin Perez for assignment on Sunday to make room for reliever Dylan Dodd on the active roster, according to Mark Bowman of MLB.com. Manager Walt Weiss said he's unsure who will replace Perez in the team's starting rotation going forward. Thursday's off day gives the Braves a chance to wait until next weekend to make an official decision. Bowman writes that both pitching prospects JR Ritchie and Didier Fuentes could be options to join the big-league rotation in the near future. Although the 35-year-old Perez seemingly doesn't have much fantasy upside left at this point in his career, he did look good in his first three outings (two starts) for the Braves before being DFA'd. Perez allowed five earned runs on nine hits (one homer) with four walks and six strikeouts in 14 1/3 frames. If a team doesn't claim Perez on waivers, he'll be free to sign with any MLB team to help provide them with experienced pitching depth.

Braves Select Martin Perez's Contract for Tuesday's Start

The Atlanta Braves have selected the contract of left-handed pitcher Martin Perez from Triple-A Gwinnett. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Didier Fuentes was optioned to Triple-A. Perez is expected to start Tuesday's game against the Athletics. He spent last season with the Chicago White Sox, posting a 3.54 ERA but a 5.36 xERA. He amassed 7.07 K/9, 3.54 BB/9, and 0.96 K/9 while inducing ground balls at a career-low 39% clip. When the veteran toes the rubber on Tuesday, it'll mark the start of his 15th season in Major League Baseball. Depending on how the outing goes, he could stick in the Braves' rotation. If it doesn't go well, the only way for the Braves to get him off their 26-man and 40-man rosters would be to designate him for assignment (or trade/release him outright).

Braves Agree to Minor-League Deal With Martin Perez

The Atlanta Braves and free-agent left-hander Martin Perez agreed to a minor-league deal on Friday, sources told Aram Leighton of Just Baseball Media. Perez, who will turn 35 years old in April, had a 3.54 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 44:22 K:BB in 56 innings over 11 outings (10 starts) with the Chicago White Sox last season. In his 14-year major-league career, the veteran Venezuelan hurler has posted a 4.41 ERA (4.44 FIP) and 1.43 WHIP with a weak 16.3% strikeout rate and 8.3% walk rate over 1,631 2/3 innings pitched for six different clubs. Perez made the All-Star team once, back in 2022 with the Texas Rangers, when he went 12-8 with a 2.89 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in 32 starts. He missed most of last year with elbow and shoulder injuries, and it's unclear if he'll be ready for the start of spring training. Perez isn't much of a fantasy asset, but he'll give Atlanta some starting depth with Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow), Grant Holmes (elbow), and Reynaldo Lopez (shoulder) all rehabbing injuries in the offseason.

Martin Perez's Season Over After Landing on Injured List

The Chicago White Sox announced on Friday that they placed left-hander Martin Perez (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list with a left-shoulder strain and recalled left-hander Cam Booser from Triple-A Charlotte in a corresponding move. With less than two weeks in the 2025 season, the move effectively ends Perez's season. The 34-year-old veteran also dealt with left-elbow issues this year, limiting him to only 56 innings at the big-league level for Chicago. The 14-year veteran was effective when he was available, though, sporting a 3.54 ERA (4.25 FIP) and 1.11 WHIP with 44 strikeouts and 22 walks in 11 appearances (10 starts). Although Perez wasn't terrible at all in his limited action in 2025, the veteran soft-tossing southpaw isn't going to have a robust free-agent market this winter and will likely have to settle for a minor-league deal if he wants to continue pitching in 2026.
