Former Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker has been claimed by the Arizona Diamondbacks. The 25-year-old Tucker, who is a former first-round pick, was designated for assignment by the Pirates back on May 30. He's had a rough career at the major-league level, posting a subpar .211/.259/.314 triple-slash line to go along with five home runs, 35 RBI, and 129 strikeouts over 436 at-bats. He's still young enough to turn things around so perhaps the Diamondbacks see potential in him. Tucker is an Arizona native.
Bryan Reynolds, Cole Tucker Land On COVID Injured List
The Pittsburgh Pirates placed outfielder Bryan Reynolds and shortstop Cole Tucker on the COVID-19 injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. Outfielder Jack Suwinski and second baseman Tucupita Marcano were called up from Triple-A in a corresponding move. No word has been given yet as to what caused Reynolds and Tucker to land on the COVID-19 injured list. Reynolds is of course the more notable member of the duo. The 27-year-old hit .302 with 24 home runs, 90 RBI and 93 runs last year. He's off to a slow start to the 2022 season, however, as he's slashing just .190/.266/.328 over 15 games.
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop/outfielder Cole Tucker is not in the starting lineup for Wednesday's game against Luis Castillo and the Cincinnati Reds. Kevin Newman is getting the start at shortstop and batting seventh in the game. Tucker has been seeing regular playing time lately and has been producing well. He's currently riding a five-game hitting streak, during which he's notched two multi-hit efforts and tallied a total of four runs scored. He's slashing .263/.317/.351 over September as a whole. The 25-year-old still isn't doing enough overall to warrant fantasy consideration as he has no homers and just two stolen bases this month.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Ka'ai Tom (wrist) was placed on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a left wrist contusion, the team announced on Twitter. In a corresponding move, the Pirates recalled infielder Cole Tucker from Triple-A Indianapolis. Tom was slashing .200/.364/.300 with a home run, one steal, seven RBI and three runs scored in 16 games since joining Pittsburgh. Tucker had a down year in 2020, slashing .220/.252/.275 over 37 games, and while he has been slightly better at the plate in Triple-A this year, he's still slashing just .214/.302/.339 in 14 games. Unless you're in a very deep, NL-only league, Tom and Tucker can both be left on the waiver-wire.
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop/outfielder Cole Tucker (hand) is back to hitting after having appeared in just one Grapefruit League game this spring, in which he went 0-for-3. Competition remains relatively open for the rebuilding Pirates with Tucker in the mix to earn at-bats both at short or in center field, where Anthony Alford stands out as his main competitor. A first-round Draft choice by Pittsburgh back in 2014, Tucker has yet to have sustained success at the plate at the big league level, slashing .215/.260/.324 in 93 games. At this stage, Tucker -- assuming that he's healthy come Opening Day -- is a roll of the dice DFS play when hitting atop the lineup due to the multiple players that will likely be shuffled in and out of the Pirates' starting nine as the season carries on.
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker (concussion) has been shut down for the remainder of the regular season. The 24-year-old was placed on the seven-day concussion list back on Sept. 17, but it seems he is not progressing as hoped. Tucker endured a disappointing 2020 season, slashing .220/.252/.275 with one homer and eight RBI through 109 at-bats. The former first-round pick will need to convince fantasy managers to take a chance on him in 2021 because the early returns have not been pretty.
Cole Tucker Out With Concussion, Jose Osuna Recalled
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Cole Tucker was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list prior to Thursdays contest versus St. Louis. To take his place on the active roster, the team recalled Jose Osuna from its alternate training site. Tucker has been shifted to the outfield full-time in 2020, although that hasnt materialized into production at the dish, as he has compiled a .527 OPS across 37 games. The rebuilding nature of the Bucs has allowed Tucker to see extended run, but his production hasnt delivered very much fantasy intrigue. Without him in the mix, look for Pittsburgh to deploy the outfield group of Adam Frazier, Bryan Reynolds, and Gregory Polanco with considerable frequency.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Cole Tucker is on the bench for Tuesday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Tucker has ridden the pine in three of the team's last four games. It has been a frustrating season for the promising 24-year-old, resulting in a .242/.270/.305 slash line. In his absence, Bryan Reynolds will make his first start of the season in center field and bat third against Dylan Cease. Reynolds has also been a disappointing fantasy asset and is not recommended for Tuesday's slate.
Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Cole Tucker is leading off for the third time this year on Wednesday as the team takes on the Chicago White Sox. Tucker has primarily hit in the lower-third of the lineup this year, with his two previous lead-off opportunities coming in the first week of August. Tucker has played 75 games in the majors since making his MLB debut last year. Over that stretch, he's struggled at the plate, slashing .215/.263/.354. He showed elite stolen base potential in the minor leagues. He stole 47 bags in 2017, followed by 35 in 2018. However, he's going to need to do more at the plate in the big leagues to warrant any consideration for fantasy rosters.
Pittsburgh Pirates shortstop Cole Tucker made his outfield debut in an exhibition game against the Indians on Monday and made a highlight-reel catch in center field. The former first-round pick figures he last played in the outfield when he was 14 or 15 years old. The Pirates told Tucker that shortstop remains his primary position, but adding versatility is the eventual goal. He has the arm strength, speed and athleticism to handle the outfield, and the Bucs could use the depth to open the season with Gregory Polanco out after testing positive for COVID-19. Kevin Newman is the team's everyday shortstop, and Erik Gonzalez, JT Riddle and Phillip Evans are capable backups at the 6. Tucker is a slick fielder but hit just .211 with a .626 OPS in 159 plate appearances in 2019.
