Angels Option Deck McGuire, Recall Michael Hermosillo
The Los Angeles Angels have optioned right-hander Deck McGuire to Triple-A Salt Lake. They have recalled outfielder Michael Hermosillo in his place. McGuire was a rotation stopgap while the Angels battled a handful of injuries to their starting pitchers. He made two starts, but didn't make it out of the fourth inning in either of them. If he returns to the big leagues this season, it will likely be in a relief role or as a spot-starter. He has no fantasy value. Hermosillo is a fourth outfielder and may draw the occasional start against left-handers to give Kole Calhoun a day off. Hermosillo is hitting .132 and likewise has no fantasy value.
The Los Angeles Angels have optioned right-hander Deck McGuire to Triple-A Salt Lake. McGuire made one spot start for the Angels and appeared a handful of times in relief. He posted a 7.56 ERA and a 1.56 WHIP, however, and is not a viable fantasy asset in any format.
Los Angeles Angels pitcher Deck McGuire will be called upon to make a spot start on Sunday. With John Lamb hitting the DL, the Angels were in need of a spot start. McGuire threw four innings of relief on Tuesday, giving up three earned runs and striking out one. He will not be worth streaming in any fantasy format.
The Los Angeles Angels acquired right-handed reliever Deck McGuire in exchange for cash or a player to be named later. McGuire will report to Triple-A Salt Lake. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Angels designated catcher Juan Graterol for assignment. McGuire has a 6.48 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP on the year but had been pitching well as a starter in Triple-A. The Angels will likely use him as starting pitching depth at Salt Lake while they recover from a myriad of injuries. Don't expect him to carry much, if any, fantasy relevance.
The Toronto Blue Jays have optioned reliever Deck McGuire to Triple-A Buffalo. A corresponding move was not yet announced. This move is for the best as McGuire has been terrible in the Major Leagues this season, and thats putting it nicely. Across 8 1/3 innings pitched, he owns an atrocious 6.48 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and 7.56 K/9. Hes been better as a starting pitcher for Triple-A this year, amassing a 2.70 ERA and 1.03 WHIP across five starts and 30 innings pitched, but some regression should be on the way with a 4.09 xFIP. Theres not likely to be enough talent here to be a fantasy contributor any time soon.
Deck McGuire and Sam Gaviglio Will Start For Toronto
With Toronto Blue Jays starting pitchers Marcus Stroman and Jaime Garcia both on the disabled list due to shoulder injuries, the Blue Jays need some reinforcements for their rotation. Enter Deck McGuire and Sam Gaviglio. Each will start one of Torontos games against the Oakland Athletics on Saturday and Sunday, though right now it is unclear which pitcher will start which game. Either way, theres not a ton of fantasy relevance here. In 3 1/3 innings pitched this year, McGuire has gotten rocked in the Major Leagues to the tune of an 8.10 ERA and 1.50 WHIP, though its worth noting he owns a 2.70 ERA (but with a 4.29 FIP) across five starts and 30 innings pitched for Triple-A Buffalo. Gaviglio is slightly more interesting with a 1.86 ERA (3.70 FIP), 9.0 K/9 and 1.24 BB/9 at Triple-A across five starts and 29 innings pitched. He also has some Major League success this season with a 2.08 ERA across 4 1/3 innings pitched with six strikeouts. Neither is likely to have any fantasy relevance, especially in the difficult matchup, but Gaviglio would be the one to take a flier on if youre that desperate.
Blue Jays Recall Danny Barnes, Option Deck McGuire
The Toronto Blue Jays have recalled reliever Danny Barnes from Triple-A Buffalo and optioned reliever Deck McGuire to Buffalo in a corresponding transaction. Barnes has 14 innings at the Major League level this year, putting up an impressive 2.57 ERA but with a 1.17 WHIP and 5.14 BB/9. Yeah, you could say some ERA regression is coming. McGuire, meanwhile, heads back to Triple-A after a poor showing on Tuesday against the New York Mets when he allowed three earned runs across 3 1/3 innings pitched. Much like Barnes in the majors, McGuire has a decent ERA founded in luck at Triple-A -- 2.70 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP. Neither transaction has any fantasy relevance.
