Sam Gaviglio Joins Dodgers On Minor League Deal

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed right-handed pitcher Sam Gaviglio to a minor league deal that includes an invitation to major league spring training. The 32-year-old Gaviglio made 98 appearances, including 37 starts, for the Blue Jays, Royals, and Mariners between 2017 and 2020 before pitching in the KBO in 2021. He put up a 5.86 ERA with 70 strikeouts in 15 starts and 91 1/3 innings for the SSG Landers. Gaviglio figures to be nothing more than a depth piece to start the season.

Sam Gaviglio Ineffective Yet Again

Toronto Blue Jays starter Sam Gaviglio allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits in five innings of work during a 4-1 loss to the Houston Astros. He struck out three batters while walking two. Gaviglio's record was dropped to 3-9 with the loss to go along with a 5.19 ERA, 1.43 WHIP, and 102/35 K/BB ratio. The 28-year-old has a 6.11 ERA through four starts in September. He should not be on any fantasy radar heading into 2019.

Sam Gaviglio Solid On Thursday

Toronto Blue Jays starter Sam Gaviglio allowed two runs on four hits in five innings of work during Thursday's 9-8 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Gaviglio struck out two batters while walking one. The 28-year-old has been decent in back-to-back outings, but he still carries an unsightly 5.18 ERA and 1.42 WHIP on the season. His next start projects to come against the Houston Astros. He can be avoided for that contest.

Sam Gaviglio Mediocre In Short Thursday Outing

Toronto Blue Jays starter Sam Gaviglio allowed two runs on six hits across 3 1/3 innings of work in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox. Gaviglio walked one and struck out one in the no-decision. Gaviglio is not a viable fantasy option this season. He has a low strikeout rate and is prone to blowing up. He has a 5.25 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP to go along with a lowly 3-8 record. He can be avoided in all formats.

Sam Gaviglio Gets Lit Up On Thursday

Toronto Blue Jays starter Sam Gaviglio allowed five runs on six hits through 4 1/3 innings of work in Thursday's 9-4 loss to the Cleveland Indians. He struck out four batters and did not issue any walks. The loss dropped his record to 3-8 for the season to go along with an inflated 5.25 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, and 96/31 K/BB ratio through 20 starts. The 28-year-old is simply not a fantasy option this year. He should be avoided at all costs when he takes on the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday.

Sam Gaviglio Struggles On Monday

Toronto Blue Jays starter Sam Gaviglio surrendered four runs on seven hits through 5 2/3 innings on Monday night in a 7-0 loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Gaviglio seemed to be pitching strong until the sixth inning when he gave up an RBI groundout to Chris Davis before a three-run shot by Trey Mancini. He now has a 4.82 ERA through the month of August, and a 5.02 ERA on the season. Gaviglio has been a model of inconsistency this year, as he normally surrounds a good start with two bad ones. He is a good source of strikeouts, but that comes at the expense of bad ratios. He should only be used as a streamer in the deepest of leagues, but even then he is a risky pickup. Fantasy managers that like to live on the edge can pick him up for his next start on Sunday against the lowly Miami Marlins.

Sam Gaviglio Gets Tossed Around on Thursday

Toronto Blue Jays starter Sam Gaviglio struggled against the Kansas City Royals on Thursday night. While it seemed like a solid matchup to stream, Gaviglio gave up five runs on eight hits through 4 1/3 innings. He was unable to induce many whiffs as he only struck out two batters. Gaviglio has had some great performances this season, but he is a risky streaming option due to his inconsistency. He now has an ugly 2-6 record to go along with a 5.13 ERA. His next start projects to be on Tuesday against the Baltimore Orioles, another offensively-challenged team, but after his outing against the Royals, it is hard to recommend streaming him.

Sam Gaviglio Expected To Start Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Sam Gaviglio is expected to start on Saturday against the Boston Red Sox, according to manager John Gibbons. He'd be taking the spot of Marco Estrada (glute), who was placed on the disabled list Friday. Gaviglio turned in a couple solid spot starts when he was first called on, but he hasn't been as good recently, including giving up six earned runs in just 1 2/3 innings against Atlanta on Wednesday. Given the fact that he pitched in the middle of this week, Gaviglio is unlikely to be long for Saturday's game against Boston. Besides, the matchup is one to avoid anyway.

Marco Estrada To Miss Weekend Start; Sam Gaviglio An Option

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Marco Estrada (hip, gluteus) will miss another start, this time during a series with the Boston Red Sox the weekend before the All-Star break. Estrada has been day-to-day with a mild glute strain, though he has not been placed on the disabled list as of yet. Estrada owners waiting for his return will have to seek pitching help elsewhere. That said, Blue Jays manager John Gibbons mentioned the chance of Sam Gaviglio starting in Estradas stead, albeit on short rest. Gaviglio got lit up by the Atlanta Braves his last time out, and wont be a great option against the Red Sox.

Sam Gaviglio Gets Rocked By Atlanta

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Sam Gaviglio was hoping to right the ship against the Atlanta Braves after more shaky outings than not as of late, but it was simply not to be. On Wednesday, Gaviglio was destroyed to the tune of six earned runs across 1 2/3 innings pitched, allowing six hits without a walk or a strikeout. Gaviglio has had a rough go of things recently (only throwing 4 1/3 innings against the New York Yankees last time out), but it's of course worth noting he's been facing off with some of the best offenses in baseball. He likely won't have another start before the All-Star break, and shouldn't be rostered in the vast majority of leagues.
