Edinson Volquez Lands On 45-Day IL With Oblique Strain

Texas Rangers right-handed pitcher Edinson Volquez has been bitten by the injury bug again, landing on the 45-day injured list due to a right oblique strain. Volquez has vultured two wins out of relief thus far in 2020, but it appears that his season is likely done after just seven appearances. Having battled back from multiple injuries over the past few years, Volquez figured to be a vital cog in the Texas bullpen, even as he was yet to receive a save chance this season. He can safely be dropped to the waiver wire in all formats.

Rangers Add Juan Nicasio, Edinson Volquez To Camp Roster

The Texas Rangers added right-handed pitchers Juan Nicasio and Edinson Volquez to their summer camp roster as non-roster players on Thursday. Their summer camp squad currently sits at 57 players. Nicasio, 34 in August, made 47 relief appearances for the Phillies last year and had a 4.75 ERA, 1.65 WHIP, 8.6 K/9 and one save in 47 1/3 frames. He has some starting experience as well, making 82 starts in his career, but he hasn't started a game since 2016 with Pittsburgh. Both players will strictly be veteran depth in 2020. Volquez, 37 on Friday, missed all of 2018 with an injury and had a 6.75 ERA and 2.00 WHIP in 11 games (four starts) with Texas last year. He was planning on retiring after the 2019 season, but he's had a change of heart.

Edinson Volquez Wants To Keep Playing

The Texas Rangers and pitcher Edinson Volquez are working on a deal now that Volquez has changed his mind on retiring. Volquez made 11 appearances (four starts) for Texas last year and was not effective, posting a 6.75 ERA, 2.00 WHIP and 5.6 K/9 in his 16 innings. It's unlikely that he's making starts in Texas in 2020 if he's in the big leagues. Expect his deal to be a minor league pact. The veteran right-hander won't have much fantasy appeal if he's pitching for Texas next season.

Edinson Volquez Playing Catch

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Edinson Volquez (elbow) is playing catch on Wednesday for the first time since April. Manager Chris Woodward said that Volquez could be a nice addition to the bullpen later this year. The 35-year-old right-hander doesn't have much left in the tank in his career. He had a 7.04 ERA, 2.35 WHIP and six K's in 7 2/3 innings in his two starts for Texas before getting hurt. Even if he somehow is making starts for the Rangers again in 2019, you should probably avoid him at all costs.

Edinson Volquez To Be Shut Down For 4-6 Weeks

Currently on the injured list with an elbow sprain, Texas Rangers starting pitcherEdinson Volquez will be shut down for up to six weeks and later be re-evaluated, the team announced Friday. The 35-year-old had made two starts this year, surrendering six runs on 10 hits in 7 2/3 innings pitched thus far. At this point it's not outrageous to consider this season to be bordering on lost for the World Series champion. Last year, he spent all of the season recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Edinson Volquez Placed On Injured List

The Texas Rangers placed starting pitcher Edinson Volquez on the injured list on Friday with a right elbow sprain. Reliever Kyle Bird has been called up from the minors to replace him on the roster. The plan for now is for the Rangers to move Lance Lynn and Drew Smyly up a day for their next starts and have Adrian Sampson start next Saturday. Volquez was predictably bad in his first two starts, yielding 10 hits and six earned runs in 7 2/3 innings while walking eight and striking out six batters. The veteran right-hander might be staring retirement in the face if he's dealing with another ulnar collateral ligament injury.

Edinson Volquez Unimpressive In Second 2019 Start

Texas Rangers starting pitcher Edinson Volquez struggled against the Los Angeles Angels in his second start of the 2019 season. Volquez gave up four walks and four hits in 3 2/3 innings of work on Thursday. He only surrendered two earned runs but racked up 83 pitches for just 11 outs. This outing follows a tough first start of the season, in which he pitched four innings, surrendering four earned runs on six hits and four walks. After these two starts Volquez has a 7.04 ERA and a 2.35 WHIP, with six strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings. Right now Volquez is a long way from fantasy consideration, in all formats.

Rangers Sign Edinson Volquez

The Texas Rangers agreed to terms on a minor league deal with free-agent starting pitcher Edinison Volquez. The deal includes an invite to spring training and is for 2018 and 2019. Volquez managed to throw a no-hitter in 2017 before he had season-ending Tommy John surgery in August. He'll turn 35 years old in July and is unlikely to provide much this year for fantasy owners.

Marlins Release Edinson Volquez

Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports that the Miami Marlins have released starting pitcher Edinson Volquez. Volquez was signed to a two-year, $22 million deal last year. He went 4-8 with a 4.19 ERA in 17 games before being shut down with Tommy John surgery. Spencer mentions that there is a chance that the club could bring him back on a minor league deal.

Edinson Volquez and JT Riddle Out For The Season

The Miami Marlins were dealt a pair of blows after losing starter Edinson Volquez and shortstop JT Riddle for the rest of the season. Volquez, who is 4-8 with a 4.19 ERA this year, will require Tommy John surgery which will keep him out of next season as well. Riddle, who has spent a majority of the season as Miami's new shortstop, will require shoulder surgery that will also keep him out the rest of the year. Both losses are tough for the Marlins, who own the National League's third-best record since the beginning of June.
