Minnesota Twins shortstop JT Riddle was placed on the COVID-19 injured list on Wednesday. Riddle was called up when starting shortstop Andrelton Simmonstested positive for the virus, and the team will now be without the former for the foreseeable future. Riddle was not a positive test but a close contact of someone who tested positive, meaning he should only be out for a couple of days before getting back to action.
Neil Walker Placed On Injured List, J.T. Riddle Recalled
The Miami Marlins placed first baseman Neil Walker (quadriceps) on the 10-day injured list on Friday with a right quadriceps strain and recalled shortstop J.T. Riddle from Triple-A New Orleans in a corresponding move. It's a loss for Miami, as Walker had been one of their better hitters this year, although the lack of counting stats made him mostly an NL-only commodity. Riddle was just 5-for-32 with two homers and three RBI in 15 games before he was sent down earlier this year. Riddle has a career .234 average with 14 homers, 70 RBI and 51 runs over 187 games in the big leagues and figures to be a utility infielder with the Fish. He can also play some outfield. Martin Prado, Miguel Rojas and Garrett Cooper are all platoon options at first base in the absence of Walker, but none of them are attractive in mixed leagues.
The Miami Marlins optioned shortstop J.T. Riddle to Triple-A New Orleans on Tuesday and recalled outfielder Isaac Galloway and pitcher Jarlin Garcia in corresponding moves. Riddle had only five hits in his first 32 at-bats (.156) with two homers and three RBI. Miguel Rojas figures to be the team's everyday starter at the 6 going forward. Galloway, who is in the starting lineup on Tuesday, hit just .203/.301/.391 with three homers and seven RBI in 43 games in his first taste of the majors last season. He'll factor into playing time in the outfield with Rosell Herrera, but he's nothing more than a dart throw in NL-only affairs.
Miami Marlins shortstop J.T. Riddle is giving the Marlins some unexpected pop early this season after launching his second homer of the year on Sunday. In an injury-shortened 2018 season that limited him to 102 games, Riddle tallied just nine homers and 36 RBI. In the early goings of the new season, however, Riddle is slashing .286/.286/1.143 with a pair of solo homers.
After hitting a triple on Saturday, Miami Marlins shortstop J.T. Riddle put together another strong performance against the Nationals, going three-for-six with two RBI and a run scored. He raised his season average to .269 to along with five home runs and 16 RBI. Riddle isn't the flashiest of shortstops, but he is poised to get meaningful playing time and has been performing well as of late. He may be worth a look if you're in need of a middle infielder in deeper leagues.
Miami Marlins shortstop J.T. Riddle (hip) is out of the starting lineup for the second straight game on Friday. He continues to deal with a nagging left hip issue, so Miguel Rojas will play shortstop against lefty Gio Gonzalez. Riddle is not worth an add in fantasy leagues right now. However, Rojas has been hitting well lately and could be an interesting option in NL-only and deep leagues. Rojas is batting seventh against Gonzalez on Friday, so he's not a DFS candidate for this game.
Updating a previous report, Miami Marlins shortstop J.T. Riddle (hip) is out of the lineup Thursday due to a tight left hip. The move is precautionary and Riddle is expected to be back in the lineup on Friday. In his place, Yadiel Rivera is starting at the 6 and is hitting eighth against Nationals starter Jeremy Hellickson. Rivera is hitting only .187/.312/.209 with no homers and six RBI on the year and is a poor DFS bet.
J.T. Riddle Comes Off Disabled List; Optioned To Triple-A
Miami Marlins shortstop J.T. Riddle is officially off the disabled list and has been assigned to Triple-A New Orleans, according to MLB.com's Joe Frisaro. Riddle has been out since having shoulder surgery in August, so he's likely to spend some time in the minors as he adjusts to the competition. Miguel Rojas has filled in nicely for the injured Riddle in the meantime. Rojas's four home runs are near the tops on the team, so it will be interesting to see what happens when Riddle is called up.
Miami Marlins shortstop J.T. Riddle(shoulder) struggled in his rehab debut on Tuesday, going 0-3 with a strikeout. He was able to play five innings in the field, however. Riddle is returning from August shoulder surgery and will likely have a lengthy rehab assignment ahead of him. When he does return, it's unclear exactly what his role will be, as the Marlins are operating as a revolving door. Riddle is coming off of a season in which he struck out 50 times, but he hit .250 with three home runs and 31 RBI. Riddle is a bit of a wild card, but Marlins fans will certainly pay attention as he gets more rehab games under his belt. Fantasy owners can ignore him until he is close to making his MLB return.
Miami Marlins shortstop J.T. Riddle is beginning his rehab assignment in High-A Jupiter on Tuesday. Riddle has been on the DL all season and essentially all offseason from August shoulder surgery. He'll take all the reps he can during his assignment. Riddle appeared in 70 games as a rookie last season, hitting .250 with three home runs and 31 RBI. He did however struggle with 50 strikeouts. The Marlins will certainly give Riddle a chance at shortstop when he returns to see if he sticks, but there's no reason for you to be claiming him off waivers anytime soon.
