Cubs Sign Edwin Rios To One-Year Deal

The Chicago Cubs signed free-agent corner infielder Edwin Rios to a one-year, $1 million deal on Friday. In a corresponding move, the team placed relief pitcher Ethan Roberts (elbow) on the 60-day injured list. Rios became a free agent in 2022 when he was non-tendered by the Los Angeles Dodgers after hitting .244 with seven home runs, 17 RBI and 12 runs scored in a career-high 92 plate appearances and 27 games in his fourth MLB season last year. There's a bit of pop in the 28-year-old's bat from the left side of the plate, but he'll strictly be corner infield depth for the Cubs this year and will likely start in the minors. In four seasons with LA, Rios has a .219/.299/.492 slash line with a .791 OPS, 20 long balls, 43 RBI and 39 runs scored in 112 games played.

Edwin Rios Starting Rehab Assignment Thursday

Los Angeles Dodgers first baseman/outfielder Edwin Rios (hamstring) will begin his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Oklahoma City on Thursday, starting at third base and batting second. Rios landed on the injured list on June 3 with a torn hamstring, so he's likely to require a lengthy rehab assignment before the Dodgers consider having him rejoin their active roster. The 28-year-old is unlikely to have a path to regular playing time in LA when he's ready, either. In 86 at-bats with the Dodgers before his injury, Rios was hitting .244/.293/.500 with seven home runs, 17 RBI and 12 runs scored in 27 games played.

Edwin Rios Going On Injured List

Los Angeles Dodgers skipper Dave Roberts said that outfielder/first baseman Edwin Rios (hamstring) has a right hamstring tear that will send him to the injured list. The good news is that Rios won't need surgery. Eddy Alvarez has been added to the active MLB roster in a corresponding move. It will be a couple of weeks before Rios will be able to return to action after suffering the injury while running to first base on Thursday. The 28-year-old had mostly been serving as the team's designated hitter against right-handed pitchers, and he was hitting .244/.293/.500 with seven home runs, 17 RBI and 12 runs scored in 27 games played. Zach McKinstry, who was just called up from the minors on Thursday, is serving as the DH and is batting eighth on Friday against New York Mets right-hander Chris Bassitt.

Edwin Rios In Tuesday's Lineup

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Edwin Rios is in Tuesday's starting lineup for a matchup with the Pittsburgh Pirates and right-hander Bryse Wilson. Rios is batting .250 with a .280 on-base percentage, and a pair of home runs in 25 plate appearances this season. He's getting the start at designated hitter on Tuesday and is hitting seventh against Wilson and the Pirates. Rios could be worth a look for fantasy managers in deeper leagues who are looking in search of infield streaming options with a fantasy-friendly matchup against Pittsburgh.

Edwin Rios Done For The Year

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Edwin Rios (labrum) is done for the remainder of the year. The 27-year-old will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. Rios hasn't done much this season, sporting a miserable .078 average and four hits throughout 51 at-bats while striking out 18 times. Hopefully, surgery will help with Rios' statistical output next season, but in the meantime, fantasy managers outside of dynasty formats can safely part ways with him.

Edwin Rios Expected To See More Playing Time In 2021

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Edwin Rios will not be an everyday player in 2021 with the newly re-signed Justin Turner back in the fold. Nevertheless, Rios has serious sleeper upside, as the Dodgers will try to preserve the health of the 36-year-old Turner. Rios slashed .250/.301/.645 with eight homers and 17 RBI across 76 at-bats in 2020. He also belted 31 HRs at Triple-A Oklahoma during 2019, showing off a legitimate power stroke. If Rios can get at least 250 at-bats in 2021, he will have end-of-roster value in standard leagues. If he ever gets an everyday role, he is a must-own asset with exposure to that loaded Dodgers' lineup.

Edwin Rios Draws First Playoff Start In Game 1 Wednesday

Los Angeles Dodgers first/third baseman Edwin Rios will serve as the designated hitter for Game 1 of Wednesdays wild-card series versus Milwaukee and left-hander Brent Suter. Rios start will mark the first of his postseason career, and may also be an indication that manager Dave Roberts isnt starting purely right-handed bats in response to Suters start. In a small sample size, Rios has homered three times in 19 plate appearances versus southpaws this season, giving him DFS appeal due to his reasonable price tag.

Edwin Rios Starting On Tuesday

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Edwin Rios is starting at third base in place of the injured Justin Turner (hamstring) on Tuesday. Rios was activated on Tuesday after a stint on the injured list that kept him out since August 16, but the 26-year-old had been red-hot with a 1.012 OPS over his first 14 games this season. A prototypical power hitter, Rios has paired a 50% hard-hit rate with a 17% swinging-strike rate so far this season, combining to fuel an impressive .395 xwOBA. Rios will probably cool off somewhat over the rest of the season, but hes likely to be the Dodgers primary third-baseman with Turner sidelined and is worth a look from fantasy players as a result.

Edwin Rios Still A Week Away From Returning

Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Edwin Rios (hamstring) is not expected to return from the injured list until sometime next week, according to manager Dave Roberts. Rios has been sidelined since August 16 with a strained hamstring. The 26-year-old was enjoying an effective start to the 2020 season, albeit as a utility player. He is a viable plug-and-play option in DFS formats upon his return to the team.

Edwin Rios Lands On Injured List, Adam Kolarek Recalled

Los Angeles Dodgers first/third baseman Edwin Rios has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to left hamstring tightness which forced him from Sundays contest. Taking his place on the active roster is left-hander Adam Kolarek, who has vultured a pair of wins out of relief this season and not allowed a run in 5 frames of work. Rios has proven an adapt fill-in bat thus far in his career, having produced a 164 OPS+ in 87 plate appearances. His path to full-time duties remains clogged due to the Dodgers immense depth, but he is an excellent DFS play when available.
