Homer Bailey News
The Oakland Athletics signed veteran right-hander Homer Bailey to a minor league deal. Bailey, a first-round pick of the Cincinnati Reds back in 2004, made 13 starts for the A's back in 2019, going 6-3 with a 4.30 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. The 35-year-old had a 3.38 ERA in eight innings over two starts for the Minnesota Twins in the shortened 2020 season and was released last September. In 31 total starts with the A's and Kansas City Royals in 2019, Bailey was 13-9 with a 4.57 ERA. He'll represent organizational pitching depth in Oakland for the time being and shouldn't be on anyone's fantasy radar. Even if he does make his way back to the big leagues, he'll be low-upside streamer with a 19.2 percent career strikeout rate.
Minnesota Twins right-handed pitcher Homer Bailey has been shifted to the 45-day injured list due to tendinitis in his right biceps, putting him on the sidelines until at least mid-September. Bailey had been working his way back at the clubs alternate site after having made just one start earlier this year, earning a win in a five-inning effort. With Jake Odorizzi (chest) also hitting the IL, Minnesota will likely go back to using an opener at least once through each turn of the rotation for the time being. With Baileys return in 2020 being further clouded, owners can begin to officially look elsewhere and allow him to return to the wire.
Minnesota Twins left-handed pitcher Rich Hill (shoulder) and right-hander Homer Bailey (biceps tendinitis) are continuing to make progress in their attempts at rejoining the starting rotation. Hill threw a bullpen session Tuesday and will face live hitting when the team returns to Minnesota after its current road trip; Bailey is slightly behind Hill, only now ramping up to playing catch. Hills lone start of the season resulted in five scoreless innings, while Bailey allowed two runs in his five frames. Without both men in the rotation, Devin Smeltzer appears to have held down a spot for the time being while openers and bullpen games have also been utilized. Neither Hill nor Bailey appear particularly close to game action, so owners can leave them on the waiver wire or their IL spots for the time being.
