J.P. Feyereisen Acquired By The Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers acquired right-handed relief pitcher J.P. Feyereisen (shoulder) from the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday in exchange for a minor-league pitcher, according to sources. The Rays designated Feyereisen for assignment on Tuesday to make room for the recently signed Zach Eflin. Feyereisen had surgery on his rotator cuff and labrum earlier this month and is expected to miss a large chunk of the 2023 season. The 29-year-old isn't expected to resume throwing for four months, so the Dodgers won't have him until later in the 2023 season. But when healthy, he could occupy a high-leverage role in LA's bullpen after he threw 24 1/3 scoreless innings with 25 strikeouts for the Rays in 2022. Feyereisen has a 2.31 career ERA with four saves and a 1.00 WHIP in three major-league seasons.

Rays Designate J.P. Feyereisen For Assignment

The Tampa Bay Rays designated right-handed reliever J.P. Feyereisen (shoulder) for assignment on Tuesday in order to open up a 40-man roster spot for recently acquired pitcher Zach Eflin. Feyereisen underwent surgery on his right shoulder this offseason and is slated to miss significant time next season. He could be picked up by an interested team after he didn't allow a single run in 24 1/3 innings for the Rays in 2022 while picking up a save, walking five and striking out 25 in 22 appearances (two starts). If Feyereisen clears waivers and returns to the Rays, he'll continue to rehab his shoulder until returning to a high-leverage relief role later next season.

J.P. Feyereisen Has Shoulder Surgery

Tampa Bay Rays right-hander J.P. Feyereisen (shoulder) had right shoulder surgery on Wednesday that was described as a "general cleanup of the rotator cuff and labrum." The goal is for Feyereisen to resume throwing in four months, so he will miss at least the start of the 2023 season. Tampa Bay Times' Marc Topkin believes that Feyereisen will make a post All-Star break return to game action. In his first full season with the Rays in 2022, he allowed an unearned run on seven hits while walking five and striking out 25 in 24 1/3 innings. The 29-year-old missed the final four months of the year due to the pinched nerve in his shoulder. Once healthy in the second half next year, Feyereisen should have a high-leverage relief role in Tampa's bullpen.

J.P. Feyereisen Feeling Better

Tampa Bay Rays skipper Kevin Cash said on Monday that relief pitcher J.P. Feyereisen (shoulder) was "feeling better" but still sore enough that he's only receiving treatment. The 29-year-old right-hander said he pitched through shoulder pain for a few weeks prior to landing on the injured list on June 3. The Rays initially said Feyereisen was dealing with a bone bruise, but he's since been diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement. The good news is that he's not dealing with any structural damage, although he's still unlikely to be ready to return until at least early July since he has yet to resume throwing. Feyereisen had one save and hadn't allowed a single earned run in 24 1/3 innings while striking out 25 and walking five before his injury.

J.P. Feyereisen Dealing With a Bone Bruise

Tampa Bay Rays reliever J.P. Feyereisen (shoulder) received an MRI on Saturday, which revealed a bone bruise in his injured right shoulder. The 29-year-old righty was placed on the 15-day injured list on Friday and has apparently been dealing with shoulder pain over the last several weeks. Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters that a bone bruise is an encouraging sign, considering how tricky shoulder issues can be for pitchers. He still has no timetable for his return as of now. Feyereisen has been excellent out of the Rays bullpen this year, posting a sparkling 4-0 record, 0.00 ERA, 0.49 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB to go along with seven holds and one save.

J.P. Feyereisen Lands On Injured List

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher J.P. Feyereisen (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day injured list with a right shoulder impingement on Friday. Feyereisen said that the shoulder had been bugging him for a few weeks and that Thursday's appearance was his "breaking point." He had an MRI Friday morning, and manager Kevin Cash is hopeful that this will be a short IL stint. Feyereisen has been tremendous this year, as he has yet to allow an earned run in 24 1/3 innings. He had just earned his first save of the season on Sunday, and the Rays seemed to be trusting him more in the later innings, so the timing of this injury is especially frustrating.

J.P. Feyereisen Notches First Save

Tampa Bay Rays relief pitcher J.P. Feyereisen was able to notch his first save of the season during Sunday's game against the New York Yankees. He has not allowed a run all season, but never received a save chance until Sunday. Feyereisen become the sixth reliever on the roster to record a save. That being said, it's tough to know who manager Kevin Cash is going to call on in the ninth inning. Feyereisen is the most valuable reliever on the Rays' roster right now, but it's uncertain if he'll get more save chances.

Rays Activate J.P. Feyereisen, Demote Josh Fleming

The Tampa Bay Rays have activated relief pitcher J.P. Feyereisen from the 10-day injured list on Monday. Feyereisen has been sidelined since July 21 with right shoulder discomfort, but was a productive member of the Rays bullpen prior to that. The right-hander started the season with the Milwaukee Brewers and between the two clubs, he has thrown to a 2.81 ERA with three saves in 42 games. In leagues that count holds, Feyereisen is worth a look. To make room for Feyereisen, the Rays have demoted pitcher Josh Fleming. Fleming has appeared in 22 games this season (11 starts) and is 10-6 with a 5.01 ERA. With rosters expanding in September, there is a good chance that he will be brought back up to the big-league squad. Even if he returns to the Rays, Fleming can be left on the waiver wire at the moment.

J.P. Feyereisen, Ryan Thompson Set For Rehab Assignment

Tampa Bay Rays pitchers J.P. Feyereisen (shoulder) and Ryan Thompson (shoulder) are slated to begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham. Both pitchers will likely need multiple appearances in Triple-A before being activated and have a decent chance of returning to the Rays bullpen by the end of August. Feyereisen has been sidelined since July 20 and will be used in a high-leverage role once he returns. The 28-year-old owns a 2.81 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and 38 strikeouts over 41 2/3 innings this season. Thompson will also be used in high-leverage situations after posting a 2.38 ERA, 1,03 WHIP, and recording 11 holds over 36 games in 2021.

J.P. Feyereisen Dealing With Biceps Tendinitis

Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash said that relief pitcher J.P. Feyereisen's (biceps) MRI exam didn't reveal any structural damage, and he appears to be dealing with biceps tendinitis. Feyereisen will rest for a few days and then start working his way back, but he will be out for longer than 10 days. The 28-year-old right-hander has been solid for the Rays this year after coming over from Milwaukee in the Willy Adames trade. He's 4-3 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 38 strikeouts and three saves in 41 2/3 relief innings. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues in need of saves should consider stashing him, as he's earned more high-leverage innings in Tampa's 'pen the rest of the way. Pete Fairbanks has recorded a hold and two saves in the last week and is the favorite for save chances over Diego Castillo in the meantime.
