Jordan Luplow Agrees On Minors Deal With Phillies

Free-agent outfielder Jordan Luplow agreed with the Philadelphia Phillies on a minor-league deal on Friday, according to sources. Luplow was recently released by the Atlanta Braves to explore other opportunities. The 30-year-old former third-round pick by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2014 out of Fresno State spent the 2023 season with the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins, slashing .208/.322/.325 with two home runs, five RBI and two stolen bases in just 39 games played. At the Triple-A level, he hit .242/.347/.430 in 222 plate appearances. Luplow is going to start the year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and will provide outfield depth the for the Phils to begin the season. He's a career .212/.314/.423 hitter in seven major-league seasons with 47 homers and 125 RBI in 361 games played.

Braves Sign Jordan Luplow To Minor-League Deal

The Atlanta Braves signed free-agent outfielder Jordan Luplow to a minor-league deal on Wednesday. Luplow played in 39 games at the major-league level in 2023 with the Toronto Blue Jays and Minnesota Twins, going 16-for-77 (.208) with two home runs and five RBI in 90 plate appearances. The 30-year-old right-handed hitter has played in seven seasons in the majors and has a career .212/.314/.423 slash line with 47 home runs, 125 RBI, 13 stolen bases and 132 runs scored in 361 games with the Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Guardians, Tampa Bay Rays, Arizona Diamondbacks, Blue Jays and Twins. Luplow will hope to win a major-league roster spot out of spring training for the Braves, but at best, he'll be an outfield bench bat.

Jordan Luplow Designated For Assignment

The Toronto Blue Jays have designated outfielder Jordan Luplow for assignment following the club's acquisition of shortstop Paul DeJong from the St. Louis Cardinals. Relief pitcher Matt Svanson, the return in exchange for DeJong, was assigned to Double-A in an additional roster move on Tuesday. Luplow, 29, got into just seven games with the Blue Jays this season, going 3-for-14 with three walks and eight strikeouts across 17 trips to the plate. He's spent the bulk of the season with Triple-A Buffalo, hitting .239 with eight homers, two stolen bases, and a .779 OPS across 48 games on the season. Luplow has specialized in hitting left-handed pitching in the big leagues, posting a career .833 OPS, .271 isolated power, and a .352 wOBA against lefties across 520 trips to the plate.

Jordan Luplow Dealing With Oblique Soreness

The Athletic's David O'Brien reported Monday that Atlanta Braves outfielder Jordan Luplow (oblique) has been slowed by oblique soreness early in spring camp. The 29-year-old signed a one-year deal with the Braves this off-season. While he is a strong defensive player, Luplow slashed just .176/.274/.361 with 11 home runs, 28 RBI, and five steals in 234 plate appearances last season. The Braves already have a number of potential outfield options, including Marcel Ozuna and Eddie Rosario. Luplow's low batting average and lack of upside in counting stats limit his fantasy value, and a potential injury would further diminish his chances of seeing playing time.

Jordan Luplow Reaches One-Year Deal With Braves

The Atlanta Braves and free-agent outfielder Jordan Luplow agreed to a one-year, $1.4 million deal Monday, per MLB.com's Mark Bowman. The Braves attempted to acquire the 29-year-old in 2022 via trade with the Arizona Diamondbacks, but they opted not to move him. Luplow is a strong defensive player but slashed just .176/.274/.361 with 11 home runs, 28 RBI and five steals in 234 plate appearances last season. While the Braves outfield is still up in the air, Luplow's low batting average and lack of upside in counting stats limit his fantasy value, even if he were to see consistent plate appearances.

Jordan Luplow Hits 10th Homer

Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Jordan Luplow hit his 10th homer of the year Tuesday, a two-run shot off San Diego Padres lefty Sean Manaea. Luplow has just a .171 average and .279 OBP this season, but his power has been surging, with eight of his home runs in his last 30 games. He's also chipped in four steals on the year. While not quite an everyday player, Luplow could carry plenty of value in daily leagues, especially while he's batting at the top of the Arizona lineup.

Daulton Varsho Sitting, Jordan Luplow Returns

Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Daulton Varsho is out of the starting lineup on Saturday against the Pittsburgh Pirates, while outfielder Jordan Luplow (foot) will return. Varsho is hitting a respectable .249/.325/.445 with eight home runs, 22 RBI, 27 runs scored and three stolen bases on the year, but he's gone 1-for-14 with four strikeouts in his last four games and could use a day off. Jose Herrera is doing the catching and is batting ninth on Saturday against Pirates right-hander Roansy Contreras. Luplow fouled a ball off his left foot on May 27 and pinch hit on Tuesday, but he's back in the lineup as the designated hitter and will bat sixth. Luplow does have six home runs in 65 at-bats, but he's also hitting .169.

Jordan Luplow Activated From The 10-Day Injured List

The Arizona Diamondbacks activated outfielder Jordan Luplow (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Monday. He started the season on the injured list with a strained oblique and is set to make his 2022 debut this week. Luplow was acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays during the offseason in exchange for infielder Ronny Simon. The 28-year-old slashed .202/.326/.454 with 11 home runs, 28 RBI, 23 runs scored, and a stolen base over 193 plate appearances for the Guardians/Rays in 2021. Luplow should be able to carve out a role in Arizona's outfield but is mainly an option in deep-league or NL-Only formats.

Diamondbacks Acquire Jordan Luplow From The Rays

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired outfielder Jordan Luplow from the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday in exchange for infielder Ronny Simon. In a corresponding move, the D-backs designated right-handed pitcher Brett De Geus for assignment. Luplow hits from the right side and has mostly been a platoon bat at outfield and first base in his five big-league seasons. Luplow hasn't had more than 261 plate appearances in any one season, but he does have a decent .245/.360/.539 career slash line with a 14.3% walk rate and 23 home runs in 378 plate appearances against left-handed pitchers. Luplow should provide a nice platoon option for Arizona's young outfield. Simon is a switch-hitting infield prospect that hit .249/.343/.475 with 15 home runs and 12 steals in 449 plate appearances with Low-A Visalia last season.

Jordan Luplow Blasts Grand Slam In Game 2 ALDS Loss

Tampa Bay Rays' first baseman Jordan Luplow went 1-for-1 with a grand slam in Game 2 of the American League Division Series 14-6 loss to the Boston Red Sox. He launched a grand slam off Red Sox ace Chris Sale to give the Rays a 5-2 lead in the first inning. It was his only at-bat in Friday's loss as the 28-year-old was later replaced in the game by Ji-Man Choi. Luplow was added to the ALDS roster after slashing .247/.345/.548 with a .893 OPS against right-handers in 2021.
