The Oakland Athletics signed free-agent first baseman Kevin Cron to a minor league deal on Tuesday. The son of assistant hitting coach Chris Cron, the 29-year-old is being assigned to Triple-A Las Vegas. Since a big year at Triple-A Reno in 2019, Cron has struggled at the plate and went 0-for-17 with seven strikeouts in eight games with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2020. He hit .239 with 15 home runs, a .296 on-base percentage and a .433 slugging percentage in 95 games with the Hiroshima Carp in Japan later in 2020. Cron hit just .222 with a .255 OBP in 67 games in Korea in 2022. He managed 38 home runs in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League in 2019, but Cron has also always been a high-strikeout guy.
Kevin Cron Gets Optioned To Club’s Alternate Training Site
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman/designated hitter Kevin Cron has been sent back to the clubs alternate training site after a brief full-time stint among the starting nine. Cron has gone hitless with one walk and seven strikeouts in his first 20 plate appearances this season, forcing the clubs hand. Despite having displayed above average power potential throughout his time in the Minors, Arizona will instead choose to rotate multiple hitters into the DH slot moving forward.
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Kevin Cron was recalled by the team and he will start at designated hitter and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Oakland Athletics. Cron appeared in two games for the team early in the season, going 0-for-4 with a walk and two strikeouts, before being sent to the team's alternate site. Cron hit a remarkable 39 home runs in just 84 minor league games in 2019, posting a ridiculous OPS of 1.223. However, he struggled a bit in his limited at-bats in the majors last year, slashing .211/.269/.521 with six home runs and 28 strikeouts over 78 plate appearances. He's worth keeping an eye on, but can remain on waivers in all leagues for now.
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Kevin Cron (hamstring), who is dealing with a sore left hamstring, traveled with the team to Los Angeles for their exhibition game. It doesn't sound like a very serious injury, so Cron should be on the club's Opening Day roster, barring a setback. The 27-year-old right-handed power hitter hit just .211 with six home runs and 16 RBI in his first 78 plate appearances in the big leagues last year, but he hit .331 with 38 home runs and 105 RBI in 82 games for Triple-A Reno and has immense power upside in a good hitter's park in Arizona. He might platoon at designated hitter with Jake Lamb, but that'll still give him power appeal in deep mixed and NL-only leagues.
Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Kevin Cron will bat sixth Thursday against the Colorado Rockies as Christian Walker takes a seat. It's Cron's first start in place of Walker since June 14. Cron is off to a .233/.277/.605 start in the first 47 PA of his career, displaying plenty of power but not enough to put Walker (.256/.330/.476) out of a job, making him a very fringe fantasy asset. The Diamondbacks are facing Rockies starter Jeff Hoffman, who is the clear worst pitcher going in the two-game early DFS slate, so Cron and any Arizona hitter higher than him in the lineup should be good options.
Arizona Diamondbacks rookie first baseman Kevin Cron went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's game, his second home run in as many games. The Diamondbacks have mostly used Cron as a pinch hitter since he made his MLB debut on May 24, which is disappointing given the fact that Cron was mashing in Triple-A this year with 21 home runs in 44 games. If you've got an open bench spot, he's worth a stash in deep and NL-only leagues. Arizona's starting first baseman Christian Walker could potentially cede some playing time to Cron if he has another extended cold stretch and Cron's power potential could make him fantasy gold with more regular playing time. In shallow leagues, leave him on waivers unless we start to see him get regular playing time.
The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned infielder Kevin Cron to Triple-A Reno on Friday to make room for starting pitcher Jon Duplantier, who is being called up from Reno to start against the Mets on Friday. Cron, 26, had three hits in 13 at-bats (.231) with two runs and two RBI in his brief time in the majors, but he could be back later this year. He was hitting an impressive .339/.437/.800 with 21 long balls and 62 RBI in 44 games for Reno before being called up. Keep him on your rosters in dynasty/keeper leagues. Duplantier has pitched well in limited relief opportunities for Arizona this year, but he'll be much riskier in his first major league start against New York. Cron's demotion is good news for Christian Walker at first base.
The Arizona Diamondbacks are on the verge of promoting first baseman/third baseman Kevin Cron from Triple-A. Cron is tearing the cover off the ball in Reno this season, hitting 21 home runs in 44 games, owning a slugging percentage of an even .800. In four years of full-season baseball, Cron has never hit fewer than 22 home runs. Triple-A numbers have been inflated a bit this year, but Crons history of power proves that this year is not a fluke. While first base is his natural position, he has spent some time at third base as well in the minor leagues. Christian Walker started the year hot at first base but has hit just .197 in the month of May. The Diamondbacks are likely looking for an infusion of power, and anyone with Crons type of bat is an interesting player in Arizonas hitter-friendly park.
