The Los Angeles Dodgers signed veteran relief pitcher Neftali Feliz to a minor league contract on Tuesday after he was recently released by the Philadelphia Phillies. The 33-year-old former American League Rookie of the Year in 2010 allowed four earned runs on four hits (one home run) in just one inning pitched for the Phillies before they gave him the boot. Before signing with Philadelphia, Feliz hadn't pitched in the major leagues since 2017, when he spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers and Kansas City Royals. It's highly unlikely that the right-hander will make it back to the Show with the Dodgers.

Bethancourt, 29, has played in 161 games in five seasons (2013-17) and will provide the team with catching depth as they try to re-sign J.T. Realmuto. Torreyes has played in 240 games over parts of six big league seasons and started four games last September for Philly. Ynoa, 29, has a 4.42 ERA in 45 career outings with the White Sox from 2016-17.

While he only has a 5.06 ERA and 20 saves over the last three seasons (147 2/3 innings), Feliz did have 85 saves and a 2.65 ERA in 210 2/3 innings from 2010-2014. He topped 30 saves in both 2010 and 2011 and could get save opportunities in an Arizona bullpen that currently has reliever Archie Bradley as the projected closer.

Feliz has been dealing with numbness in his right hand, so it's possible this issue led to his recent struggles, having surrendered five earned runs in his last two innings pitched. This solidifies Brandon Maurer's role as the primary setup man for closer Kelvin Herrera.

Once regularly touching triple digits, Feliz started 2017 by hitting 98 MPH on regular basis. Unfortunately, the speed boost was short-lived, and as he's dropped down to 95-96 MPH, he's become considerably more hittable. With Kansas City's bullpen carrying a 4.41 ERA this season, a flier on a possible bounceback isn't a terrible idea. That said, owners should only monitor this situation lightly for now.
