Parker Bridwell Fantasy Stats

The Los Angeles Angels have recalled right-hander Parker Bridwell. Bridwell has only made one start for the Angels this season, giving up six runs in 1 2/3 innings. He didn't have much success at Triple-A Salt Lake either, pitching to an 8.68 ERA in six starts, with a 19/9 K/BB ratio. Bridwell should not be anywhere near the fantasy radar this season.

Los Angeles Angels starter Parker Bridwell had an MRI on his elbow on Monday. The MRI did not show any structural damage, and he was diagnosed with elbow inflammation. He will be cleared to throw when his symptoms subside. More will be known when he begins throwing, but Bridwell probably will not make another start for a while. He should be off the radar outside of very deep fantasy formats.

Bridwell was likely going to be sent back down to the minors after Shoemaker returned from the DL, and a performance like his on Friday makes it even less likely he'd remain with the Angels long-term.

Regardless, Bridwell and Tropeano can be left on the waiver wire even in the deepest fantasy formats, unless they play their way into the rotation at some point.

He would not have been available to pitch until after the All-Star break anyway, so this move is simply procedural to allow the Angels to call up another reliever to keep their bullpen arms fresh. Bridwell should return to a rotation spot after the break. Bridwell has looked great in his last few outings and now holds a steady 2.95 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with 12 strikeouts in 21 1/3 innings. Looking deeper, Bridwell has a disastrous 6.19 FIP which likely means some serious regression is coming for the 25-year-old. He is worth a look as a streaming option in deep mixed and AL-only leagues in the second half, but not much else.

Angels' starter Matt Shoemaker (forearm) is flying back to Southern California tomorrow to be re-evaluated. He will not make his scheduled start on Sunday, and Parker Bridwell will continue to start in his place. Just yesterday Shoemaker played catch from 120 feet and was expected to return on Sunday, so it appears a setback occurred just recently. It is unclear how long Shoemaker will be out. He has thrown 77 2/3 innings on the year, pitching to a 4.52 ERA and a 1.30 WHIP with 69 strikeouts. Bridwell has made three appearances (two starts) on the year and has a 3.07 ERA and a 1.43 WHIP with an 8:6 K:BB ratio. He has a 6.12 FIP, so fantasy owners would be wise to steer clear of Bridwell unless he strings together a couple of quality starts.

Los Angeles Angels pitcher Parker Bridwell is starting on Tuesday against Bartolo Colon and the Atlanta Braves, reports Mike DiGiovanna of The Los Angeles Times. With starter Alex Meyer (back) expected to make his next start on Sunday, this looks like nothing more than a spot start for Bridwell. Bridwell was traded to the Angels from the Orioles on April 17 and has made nine appearances at Triple-A this year, pitching to a 3.31 ERA and a 1.01 WHIP with a very nice 32:4 K:BB. The 25-year-old made two appearances in the MLB last season, pitching 3 1/3 innings and giving up five runs on five hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Considering this is only a spot start, Bridwell should not be owned in any formats. Should he stick in the majors, he could be worth a flyer in very deep leagues or as a streamer against poor-hitting teams.
