Shane Greene News

Shane Greene Loses Arbitration Case

Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Shane Greene lost his salary arbitration case against the team, according to a source. He'll earn $6.25 million in 2020 instead of the $6.75 million he requested. Greene put up a nice 2.30 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with the Tigers and Braves in 65 relief appearances last year. The right-hander also recorded 22 saves with the Tigers, but he was relegated to mostly a setup role with Atlanta to close out the year and recorded just one save with the Braves. Mark Melancon and Will Smith are now ahead of Green in the late innings in Atlanta for the 2020 season, so it's unlikely he'll have any fantasy appeal as a closing option to begin the season.

Shane Greene Named Closer for Braves

Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Shane Greene has been named closer by manager Brian Snitker. The Braves acquired relievers Greene, Mark Melancon, and Chris Martin, all at the trade deadline. All three pitchers have closing experience, so it was unclear which would get the nod in the ninth inning. Greene has 22 saves converted with a 1.18 ERA across 38 innings. He'll remain a must-own fantasy player in all formats.

Shane Greene Traded To Atlanta

The Detroit Tigers have traded closer Shane Greene to the Atlanta Braves. In terms of fantasy ramifications, fantasy owners don't need to worry about losing many saves, as Greene should get the bulk of the save opportunities in Atlanta over Luke Jackson and Co. On the year, the 30-year-old has absolutely dominated with a 1.18 ERA and 0.87 WHIP along with 43 strikeouts in 38 innings and should continue to deliver value down the stretch for a much better team. Joe Jimenez looks likely to assume closer duties for the Tigers, but if he continues to pitch to the tune of a 5.05 ERA, Buck Farmer won't be far behind. Jackson loses the most fantasy appeal with the Braves move to acquire Greene.
