The Texas Rangers have signed right-handers Shane Greene and Austin Pruitt to minor-league deals with invites to big-league spring training. Greene, 35, made just a pair of relief outings in each of the last two MLB seasons and spent the 2023 season in the Cubs organization, tossing a 1.75 ERA (alongside a 4.12 FIP) across nine outings (seven starts) with Triple-A Iowa. He sports a career 4.50 ERA across 345 MLB outings (33 starts) between the Yankees, Tigers, Braves, Dodgers, and Cubs. Pruitt, 34, enjoyed a nice season largely out of the A's bullpen in 2023, tossing a 2.98 ERA across 38 appearances (six starts. The veteran has worked to a 4.43 career ERA in 150 big-league outings (17 starts) with the Rays, Astros, Marlins, and A's.
Oakland Athletics right-hander Austin Pruitt will start Saturday's meeting with the Red Sox. Paul Blackburn (illness) was initially scheduled to be on the hill for this one. However, he's under the weather, so Pruitt will enter the equation. The 33-year-old has appeared in 23 games this season, starting three, and has amassed a 1-5 record with a 2.93 ERA. But considering Boston has collected 21 runs in the last three games while winning six of their previous seven, fantasy managers should think twice before considering Pruitt for any fantasy setup.

There may be leagues deep enough for him to be desirable but in most leagues, he needs a change in role.

Tampa Bay Rays pitcher Austin Pruitt has been announced as the starting pitcher for Monday's day game versus the New York Yankees. This is expected to be one of the bullpen games so there are no assurances that they will leave Pruitt in long enough to earn the win. He did earn the win in relief during the opening game of the season. He went 7-5 in his only major league season so far but with a terrible 5.31 ERA. He is currently just not much of a fantasy option, especially against a very dangerous Yankees offense.
Nathan Eovaldi Out For The Rays, Austin Pruitt Called Up
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher Nathan Eovaldi will require surgery to repair "loose bodies" in his elbow. This was terrible news to come down right before the season starts. There is some speculation that he could get away with as little as six to eight weeks before he gets back to pitching. This presents a best-case scenario for a return in mid-June. Too much is unknown at the moment to rely on that, so Eovaldi's value falls off a cliff in seasonal leagues. Austin Pruitt has been called back up to the majors a few days after being sent down to the minors. The leading theory initially was that Pruitt would become the fourth starter for the Rays. However, officially the Rays list their starting pitcher for the third game Saturday and fifth game Monday as TBD. Right-hander Daniel Hudson was also released, leaving one fewer option to speculate as part of the answer. For now, be cautious with the situation.
