Steve Pearce News
First baseman/outfielder Steve Pearce announced his retirement from baseball on Monday night, while appearing as a guest on WEEI's broadcast of the 2018 Red Sox World Series run. The 37-year-old was named World Series MVP in 2018 after totaling three home runs, eight RBI, five runs scored and a .333 batting average through 16 plate appearances to help the Red Sox clinch the championship winning series against the Dodgers. Pearce finished his 13-year career with 91 home runs, 303 RBI, a .254 batting average, .332 on-base percentage and .772 OPS while spending time as a member of the Pirates, Orioles, Astros, Yankees, Rays and Blue Jays, before earning World Series MVP honors and finishing his career as a member of the Red Sox.
Boston Red Sox first baseman Steve Pearce (back) took the day off on Monday but will resume his rehab assignment with Single-A Lowell on Thursday and play in three straight games. Barring setbacks, Pearce could return this weekend against the Blue Jays. The 36-year-old has already been on the injured list multiple times this season and is hitting an ugly .180/.245/.258 with a homer, nine runs and nine RBI in 89 at-bats. Pearce will only be useful in AL-only leagues and as a low-priced DFS flier for his power when he faces left-handed pitchers.
Boston Red Sox first baseman Steve Pearce (back) will start his rehab assignment on Friday with Single-A Lowell. He's been on the injured list with a lower back strain since June 1 but swung a bat on Wednesday and is progressing well. Pearce could rejoin the team by the end of their upcoming six-day road trip or return when they come home next Friday. He is hitting a measly .180 (16-for-89) with one homer and nine RBI on the season after getting a late start to the year due to an injury. Pearce does have some pop in his bat still, but he's mostly just a low-priced DFS play when he's facing a left-hander.
