Taylor Motter Called Up By Twins To Shore Up Infield Depth

Minnesota Twins utility man Taylor Motter has been recalled by the Twins on Friday. The move was announced in conjunction with Joe Mauer's reinstatement from the disabled list. There was some speculation that the Twins might call up highly-touted prospect Nick Gordon, but they went with Motter instead. After the demotions of Miguel Sano and Jake Cave, the Twins were severely lacking in infield depth. So, it makes sense for them to bring up Motter, who can play multiple infield positions. That said, he is a career .198 hitter and didn't do much in Triple-A this season. Fantasy players should leave Motter on the waiver until he shows something with the bat.

Taylor Motter Claimed By Twins

Infielder Taylor Motter has been claimed by the Minnesota Twins after he was designated for assignment on May 27 by the Seattle Mariners. Motter will join Triple-A Rochester, but will be on the Twins 40-man roster. He was designated for assignment by the Mariners in order to add catcher Chris Herrmann to the 40-man roster. Motter should not be owned in any fantasy formats.

Taylor Motter Optioned To Triple-A

Seattle Mariners infielder Taylor Motter will be optioned to Triple-A to make room for Tuesday night's starter Ariel Miranda, per MLB.com. The move is more roster machinations than a reflection on Motter, as the Mariners slowly begin to get their injured players back. Motter got squeezed because the team is still awaiting the return of starter Erasmo Ramirez, catcher Mike Zunino, outfielder Ben Gamel and first baseman Ryon Healy. Motter has the versatility to play all infield spots, including first base, but the team decided to keep Dan Vogelbach for the next few games. There are many scenarios, but it is likely Motter could be back on the team within the week if they option Miranda after his start or demote one of their catchers when Zunino returns. Motter is known mostly for his glove but should be back up with the club in the near future.

Taylor Motter is Lone Bright Spot in M's Lineup Sunday

The Seattle Mariners' offense was struggling mightily on Sunday against the Oakland Athletics, as they only came away with two hits all game. One of those hits went for a long ride off of the bat of first baseman Taylor Motter to deep left field over the bullpens. It was Motter's first home run of the 2018 campaign, and just his second hit in six games. Last season, Motter hit seven home runs in 92 games for the Mariners. Although he is not necessarily fantasy relevant, unless you are in an extremely deep AL-only league, his flexibility of short stop and outfield eligibility makes him worthy of a look if he is able to carry the momentum from today's game into the upcoming week. He is six games away from gaining first baseman eligibility as well.

Taylor Motter To Get Start At First Base

Seattle Mariners infielder Taylor Motter will get the start and bat ninth for the Mariners on Tuesday, per MLB.com. Motter is a shortstop by trade but will change gloves while the team deals with injuries to Ryon Healy and Nelson Cruz. Dan Vogelbach will serve as the designated hitter and Motter will get a chance to contribute. Motter enjoyed an excellent month of April in 2017, hitting five home runs and seven doubles in 22 games. His production completely tailed off from that point, and he is no more than a defensive bench piece at present. But the Mariners are running thin on healthy bodies, so Motter should see a healthy amount of plate appearances this week.

Taylor Motter Finishes Second On Mariners In Spring RBI

Seattle Mariners infielder Taylor Motter finished up his spring strong, hitting .297 and coming in second on the team with 14 runs batted in. Motter played in 25 spring games, the most on the team, and will need to be more consistent this season to be effective. He started off hot last season, racking up 12 extra-base hits and driving in 13 runs in April. But things went downhill from there and he finished the season going 3-for-28 in the month of September. Motter's defense isn't the question, but whether he can be a solid offensive contributor off the bench. Motter should spell Jean Segura and Robinson Cano at times but will not be an attractive fantasy option if he sees consistent playing time.

Danny Espinosa Waived, Taylor Motter Called Up

Seattle Mariners second baseman Danny Espinosa was placed on waivers Sunday and infielder Taylor Motter was called up from Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move. Espinosa has hit an embarrassing .164/.237/.279 with the M's and Angels this year and has no fantasy relevance. Motter hasn't been much better at .204/.272/.355 with seven homers and 23 RBI, and he'll provide depth as a utility infielder/outfielder. He can also be ignored in fantasy.

Taylor Motter Hits Only Second Home Run Since April 23

Taylor Motter homered, singled and scored a run in the Mariners extra inning win on Tuesday night. Motter's seventh home run of the season was only his second since April 23rd but has hits in his last three starts. Motter had a productive month of April but once shortstop Jean Segura was inserted into the lineup his offense has disappeared. Motter is slashing a tepid .207/.269/.369 with 18 extra-base hits and 23 runs batted in through 198 at-bats. Once Segura is activated from the disabled list on Thursday, it will be save to drop Motter in most leagues.

Taylor Motter With One Hit In Last 18 At-Bats

Seattle Mariners shortstop Taylor Motter is stuck in a 1-for-18 slump heading into Tuesday's action against the Twins. When starting shortstop Jean Segura went down with an ankle injury, it signaled a moment for Motter to get some serious playing time for at least a week. But after a two-hit performance the day after the injury, Motter has scuffled and is now hitting .194 in June. He has hit only one home run and four doubles since April 23, and his on-base percentage is an uninspiring .275. Segura should be back within a week or so and Motter will slide back into his utility-infielder role on the team.

Taylor Motter Sits In Favor Of Tyler Smith

Seattle Mariners utility player Taylor Motter will sit on Monday, and Tyler Smith will start for the Mariners against starter Adalberto Mejia and the Twins in Minnesota. Smith is making his third MLB start and is 1-for-8 with a double and an RBI in his MLB career. Motter has stepped up as the starting shortstop since Jean Segura was placed on the disabled list and has a .566 OPS over the last 14 days. Motter has provided speed for the Mariners and fantasy owners, stealing five bases over the last 30 days, but he only has a .436 OPS over that time span. The Mariners hope they get Segura back soon, but until then, Motter provides little stop-gap value in fantasy in AL-only leagues.
