Free-agent forward/center Chuma Okeke agreed to an Exhibit 10 contract with the New York Knicks. The 25-year-old was drafted in 2019 by the Magic. In 189 games in Orlando, he averaged 6.3 points and 3.7 rebounds. However, he never carved out a routine role in the rotation. With that said, despite the re-signing of Precious Achiuwa, the Knicks lack depth underneath the basket, meaning Okeke could make the team if he has an impressive training camp. While he probably won't be a reliable fantasy option anytime soon, he's worth watching in case he earns some starts with the Knicks or another team during the 2024-25 campaign.
Orlando Magic power forward Chuma Okeke (knee) will not suit up for Thursday night's game against the Detroit Pistons. He suffered a left knee contusion and the team is holding him out. His next chance to play will be on Sunday against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Meanwhile, power forward/center Wendell Carter Jr. (ankle) is questionable for the game with an injury of his own. If Carter also sits, there will be a lot of extra rebounds to go around. Mo Bamba and Moritz Wagner are the prime candidates to benefit from Okeke's absence and Carter's potential absence.
Wendell Carter Jr. Ruled Out Friday, Chuma Okeke Will Start
Orlando Magic power forward/center Wendell Carter Jr. (illness) has been ruled out for Friday's game against the Raptors, paving the way for Chuma Okeke to slide into the starting five. Carter tied his season high with 41 minutes played Wednesday, an outing in which he logged his sixth consecutive double-double. Okeke, who will be making his 11th start of the season, has not had a discernibly larger offensive role when among the first five. His shooting percentage as a starter sits at just 36.1%, having averaged 1.2 more PPG among the starting unit (9.4, vs. 8.2 as a reserve). Carter's next chance to take the floor comes Saturday vs. Memphis, while Okeke's DFS value is inherently tied to Carter's availability.
Orlando Magic power forward Chuma Okeke thoroughly enjoyed his first start of the campaign on Friday against Miami, notching 18 points and 10 rebounds with four assists, six steals and one block. He earned 39 minutes of action and shot 7-for-12 from the field with a 4-for-8 record from deep. Okeke averaged 11.8 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists as a starter during his rookie campaign last season, so he's shown plenty of upside, and fantasy managers won't be disappointed as long as the 23-year-old gets enough time on the court.
Orlando Magic power forward Chuma Okeke produced a team-high 18 points on 7-for-12 shooting in Monday's loss to the Lakers, adding five rebounds to his line with two assists and two steals. He had a second consecutive strong outing from downtown, going 3-for-5 with the three-ball. Okeke is pretty inconsistent, but he's getting plenty of burn and contributes well in multiple categories. The 22-year-old will have a meeting with the Cavs next. Power forwards have posted solid numbers in the matchup this season with 21.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per 48 minutes.
Orlando Magic guard Gary Harris (rest) and Chuma Okeke (hip) are suiting up for Wednesday's contest against the Bulls. Harris returns after a one-game absence due to rest, meaning Dwayne Bacon will go back to a bench role. Okeke is dealing with a hip ailment and will be on a minutes' restriction once again- knocking some shine off of his potential DFS value.
Orlando Magic power forward/center Chuma Okeke (hip) has been given the green light to play Monday against the Spurs, but he'll do so under a minutes restriction. Okeke has excelled since rejoining the starting five over the past eight games, averaging 13.9 points and 5.9 boards per contest in that span, while shooting 48.4 percent. With the Magic in the throes of a full rebuild over the final month, Okeke is arguably their most enticing season-long and DFS commodity, although the latter format is likely more adversely affected by his playing time cap.
Chuma Okeke Fills Up The Box Score In Losing Effort
Orlando Magic forward Chuma Okeke put together another solid all-around effort in a 119-109 loss to the Nuggets Sunday. Okeke tallied 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two three-pointers, a pair of steals, and a blocked shot in a season-high 39 minutes. The 22-year-old is getting all the minutes he can handle in Orlando's new-look frontcourt- as he's averaging 32.8 per contest since the trade of Aaron Gordon. Okeke has scored 14-plus points in six of his last seven contests, along with a variety of different defensive statistics to boot. He'll get a Wednesday matchup against the Wizards, who have been a strong defensive team against power forwards this year. Still, Okeke has proven himself as a trustworthy option over the last several games.
Chuma Okeke Delivers Solid Two-Way Effort On Tuesday
Orlando Magic forward Chuma Okeke impressed on both ends once again in a 103-96 win over the Clippers on Tuesday. Okeke scored 18 points with four rebounds, three steals, two assists, and a triple in 28 minutes. The 22-year-old is a sneaky post-trade deadline winner, as he has taken the majority of Aaron Gordon's minutes at the power forward spot, averaging 28.7 over his last four games along with 17.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 triples, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per contest. Okeke should be on the radars of both season-long and DFS investors alike, though he has a bit of a tough matchup coming up on Thursday against the Pelicans.
Orlando Magic forward Chuma Okeke (knee) will play around 12-14 minutes Tuesday against the Toronto Raptors. Okeke has been out since December 31st and will slowly ramp up his conditioning and minutes. This is an interesting situation to watch with starting forward Aaron Gordon (knee) out for the next four-to-six weeks. Okeke could be line for more minutes if he can stay healthy, but also has to battle Gary Clark and Khem Birch for the position.
