Alex Erickson Leads The Chargers In Receiving In Week 17
Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Alex Erickson led the team in receiving in a Week 17 loss to the Denver Broncos. Erickson was targeted eight times, making seven catches for 98 yards. It's very telling of the Chargers season that Alex Erickson is the one leading the team in catches and yards in a Week 17 game against a division rival. They'll have one more game before the merciful end of the season with a Week 18 matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs.
The New York Jets released veteran wide receiver Alex Erickson on Monday, according to a source. Erickson was a preseason standout, catching two touchdown passes in Saturday's finale, so he could be a candidate to rejoin the team's practice squad entering the 2023 regular season. If the 30-year-old doesn't return to the Jets' practice squad, he figures to get a shot with another team as receiver depth. He spent the 2022 campaign with the Washington Commanders, but he only saw time on special teams as a kick returner and wasn't targeted on offense. Since entering the league in 2016 as an undrafted free agent with the Cincinnati Bengals, Erickson has 96 receptions for 1,141 yards and only one touchdown on 152 targets in 99 games (14 starts) for the Bengals, and Carolina Panthers.
New York Jets wide receiver Alex Erickson hauled in all five of his targets for 38 yards and two touchdowns in the team's 32-24 preseason victory over the New York Giants. Both of his scores came in the fourth quarter on passes from quarterback Tim Boyle. Erickson has seven years of NFL experience but has mainly been utilized on special teams. The 30-year-old was among the first receivers to come off the bench on Saturday and has a clear path to making New York's final roster following the announcement of Corey Davis' retirement earlier this week. He remains off the fantasy radar for now but could conceivably contribute on offense at some point this season.
The New York Jets signed free-agent wide receiver Alex Erickson and safety Dane Cruikshank to undisclosed deals on Thursday. Erickson played in only two games with the Washington Commanders last year and wasn't used at all on offense, although he returned four punts for 25 yards. In seven NFL seasons, he has 96 receptions on 152 targets for 1,141 yards and one touchdown in 99 games (14 starts). Cruikshank didn't play at all last year due to a hamstring injury, but he has five years experience in the NFL, mostly on special teams. In 52 career games (four starts) with the Titans and Bears, he has 66 tackles (46 solo), an interception and a forced fumble. Erickson and Cruikshank will provide special teams depth for the Jets.
Texans Add Receivers Donte Moncrief, Alex Erickson
The Houston Texans signed free-agent wide receiver Donte Moncrief and former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Alex Erickson to undisclosed one-year deals on Thursday, according to a source. There is opportunity in Houston with Will Fuller V leaving for the Dolphins, but Moncrief and Erickson figure to fight for playing time behind Brandin Cooks, Randall Cobb and Keke Coutee. Moncrief, 27, was a non-factor in just six games for the New England Patriots last year and has become mostly a special teams player at this point in his career. He has five combined catches the last two seasons. Erickson, 28, has spent all five of his seasons in Cincinnati. He caught just 12 passes on 17 targets for 139 yards in 16 games (two starts) in 2020 but can also be an option for Houston in the return game.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Alex Erickson pulled in six catches (nine targets) for 55 yards during the Week 16 loss to Miami. Erickson was able to take advantage of Andy Dalton's 56 attempts on the day by recording one of his most productive performances of 2019. He wasn't a reliable week-to-week option this season, but he did have value at times in deeper formats, especially with Cincy dealing with injuries throughout the year. He will look to build on this performance when the Bengals close out the season against the visiting Browns in Week 17.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Alex Erickson made two catches for 43 yards in a loss to the Steelers Sunday. This was Erickson's first game with more than one catch, and the first time he's had positive yards since Week 8. Erickson is best left on waivers in all fantasy leagues.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Alex Erickson (back) returned to a limited practice on Thursday after being held out on Wednesday. Even with A.J. Green (ankle) unlikely to return this weekend, Erickson isn't a recommended fantasy starter in any league as the No. 3 receiver on a winless Bengals team with rookie quarterback Ryan Finley under center. Erickson missed both of his two targets in Week 10 with Finley throwing him the ball. He had a blowup on Oct. 20 against the Jaguars when he went for 137 yards on eight catches, but that was clearly an outlier. You can avoid Erickson unless you're truly desperate.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Alex Erickson (back) did not practice on Wednesday. Erickson has benefitted from A.J. Green (ankle) not playing at all this season, securing 25 of 38 targets for 343 scoreless yards in eight games. Still, he hasn't been fantasy relevant as the No. 3 receiver in an offense that is now being led by rookie quarterback Ryan Finley. With Green looking likely to miss another game in Week 11 against the Raiders, Stanley Morgan Jr. might be needed to step up in three-receiver sets behind Tyler Boyd and Auden Tate.
Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Alex Erickson didn't record a reception during the blowout loss to Baltimore on Sunday. After averaging nine targets coming into this one, the 27-year-old received just two looks from quarterback Ryan Finley, with Erickson's only source of production coming off of a single carry for 13 yards. This showing was a disappointment, especially with A.J. Green (ankle) still out of the mix. Still, fantasy managers in deeper formats should hold on to him, at least until we get a better idea of what his role will be in the weeks ahead with a new signal-caller at the helm.
