The Houston Texans have released wide receiver Donte Moncrief with a non-football injury designation, a move that starts to simplify Houston's crowded receiver room. Moncrief was always a long shot to make the Texans roster, as the team had a lot of young and veteran players on the roster. This move makes it easier for either Chris Conley or Isaiah Coulter to make the final roster, though both still face an uphill battle when it comes to seeing the field. Moncrief wasn't on the fantasy radar and this move doesn't put any other Texans wideouts on that radar either.
Texans Add Receivers Donte Moncrief, Alex Erickson
The Houston Texans signed free-agent wide receiver Donte Moncrief and former Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Alex Erickson to undisclosed one-year deals on Thursday, according to a source. There is opportunity in Houston with Will Fuller V leaving for the Dolphins, but Moncrief and Erickson figure to fight for playing time behind Brandin Cooks, Randall Cobb and Keke Coutee. Moncrief, 27, was a non-factor in just six games for the New England Patriots last year and has become mostly a special teams player at this point in his career. He has five combined catches the last two seasons. Erickson, 28, has spent all five of his seasons in Cincinnati. He caught just 12 passes on 17 targets for 139 yards in 16 games (two starts) in 2020 but can also be an option for Houston in the return game.
Donte Moncrief Returns To Active Roster For Monday’s Game
New England Patriots wide receiver Donte Moncrief (thigh) has rejoined the team's active roster for Monday's contest versus the Bills. Having missed one week due to a thigh injury, the Patriots get the veteran back to add to their receiver depth, even as he has extremely limited fantasy intrigue with one reception for 15 yards across his four games in 2020. Moncrief is set to be at least the No. 4 option in the passing game behind Jakobi Meyers, Damiere Byrd, and N'Keal Harry, although New England's struggles in the passing game makes none of the aforementioned names a particularly strong play during season-long championship week matchups.
Damien Harris, Donte Moncrief Will Miss Sunday’s Game
New England Patriots running back Damien Harris (ankle) and wide receiver Donte Moncrief (thigh) have both been ruled out for Sunday's contest against Miami. The New England backfield continues to take its brunt of injury woes with Sony Michel now in line to lead the group against a stout Dolphins Defense in Week 15. Moncrief's absence leaves Damiere Byrd, Jakobi Meyers, and N'Keal Harry as the clear frontrunners to continue receiving targets from Cam Newton at the WR position. Harris has logged double-digit carries in each of the past eight games that he has appeared in, so there's reason to hold onto him in season-long leagues heading into a potential Week 16 meeting with Buffalo. With New England's offense seesawing in production on a weekly basis, the absence of Harris and Moncrief further throws the game plan into flux heading into Sunday.
The New England Patriots signed wide receiver Donte Moncrief and defensive lineman Ryan Glasgow to their practice squad on Wednesday. The Patriots continue to look for receiver depth with Julian Edelman (knee) on Injured Reserve and N'Keal Harry (concussion) missing the last two games. Moncrief was cut by the Jets in October and hasn't caught a pass yet in 2020. The 27-year-old who was drafted in the third round by the Colts in 2014 could eventually make his way to New England's active roster, but he should continue to be a fantasy afterthought for now. In eight games with the Panthers and Steelers in 2019, Moncrief had four catches (15 targets) for just 18 receiving yards.
The Carolina Panthers claimed wide receiver Donte Moncrief off waivers from the Steelers on Monday, according to a source. Moncrief proved to be a failure in Pittsburgh, racking up just four catches on 15 targets for 18 yards in five games before he was let go. He'll be fourth on the depth chart in Carolina behind D.J. Moore, Curtis Samuel and Jarius Wright. That won't yield any fantasy value, especially with quarterback Kyle Allen likely to remain under center for the rest of the season with Cam Newton (foot) injured.
The Pittsburgh Steelers waived wide receiver Donte Moncrief on Saturday and promoted running back Tony Brooks-James to the 53-man roster in a corresponding move. Moncrief never made an impact in Pittsburgh, and he never really had a chance once quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) was lost for the season. The 26-year-old caught just four passes (15 targets) for 18 yards in four games this season. He was already well off the fantasy radar before being cut. Brooks-James will serve as depth behind Jaylen Samuels and Trey Edmunds with James Conner (shoulder) and Benny Snell Jr. (knee) out for Week 9 against the Colts.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Donte Moncrief has five drops through two games. He's likely still feeling the effects of a dislocated finger from the preseason but drops are drops, and him being bench in the second half of Week 2's game paints a picture of where he is on the depth chart. Many are clamoring for the Steelers to outright release him, and while they still may, he has no place on any fantasy roster against the 49ers in Week 3.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Donte Moncrief dropped his only target during Sunday's loss to Seattle. Mason Rudolph started the second half after Ben Roethlisberger (elbow) wasn't able to continue. His Moncrief look was his second career NFL throw and it went right through the receiver's hands and into the mits of a Seattle defender. The 26-year-old didn't see the field after the drop. After catching just three of 10 targets to open the season, Moncrief is easily droppable in all fantasy formats and could even dropped by his own team in the near future if things don't improve. Don't consider the pass catcher for a Week 3 tilt with San Francisco.
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Donte Moncrief led the team with 10 targets in the team's Week 1 loss to the Patriots. However, he only caught three ofthem for seven yards and dropped four others, including a third-quarter touchdown. Moncrief is encouraged that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger publicly expressed his confidence in the first-year Steeler.Thats huge for a guy like that, especially, to come out and say something like that, Moncrief said. Pittsburgh is in a bounce-back opportunity at home against the Seahawks in Week 2. As long as Roethlisberger is still willing to throw to the 27-year-old, you have to at least give him a look. This week, Moncrief is more of DFS dart throw and is not usable in season-long formats.
