The Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with free-agent linebacker Alexander Johnson on Thursday. The veteran linebacker will join his third team after spending time with both the Denver Broncos and Seattle Seahawks. The 31-year-old registered 124 tackles during the 2020 season with Denver. Since then, Johnson has played in a total of seven games between Denver and Seattle. At this point, it doesn't appear that Johnson is anything more than a depth piece on an NFL roster. The expectation is that he'll compete for a spot on the 53-man roster in Miami.
Denver Broncos inside linebacker Alexander Johnson (pectoral) suffered a torn pectoral muscle in the Week 6 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders and will miss the rest of the year, according to sources. Johnson is the second inside linebacker the Broncos have lost for the season to a torn pectoral, with Josey Jewell also going down this year. Just like Jewell, Johnson is expected to under surgery. Linebacker Baron Browning (concussion) has already been ruled out for Thursday's game against the Cleveland Browns, so the interior of their defense is definitely hurting. The good news is that Cleveland could be without both of their top running backs in Nick Chubb (calf) and Kareem Hunt (calf).
Denver Broncos linebacker A.J. Johnson will remain an "early down mainstay" on defense for the Broncos in 2020 after he broke out in 2019. Denver's defense started to play much better last year when they gave Johnson more snaps. The 28-year-old had 88 total tackles (46 solo), 1.5 sacks, three passes defensed and one interception in 15 games after playing in just one game in his rookie season. Johnson is a player on the rise for the Broncos Defense, and he could become worth considering as an IDP streamer if he continues his upward trajectory in 2020. Denver's defense overall should be a low-end starting unit in fantasy in head coach Vic Fangio's second season at the helm.
