Andrew Whitworth Could Make NFL Return

Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth recently retired after playing 16 seasons in the NFL. The 40-year-old went out on top as a Super Bowl champion. However, the All-Pro tackle has not ruled out a possible return. He is still technically under contract with the Rams. Also, it sounds like Whitworth is staying in NFL shape. That being said, fans might not have seen the last of Whitworth on an football field. In the meantime, Joseph Noteboom and David Edwards have worked out for the Rams as possible replacements on the offensive line.

Andrew Whitworth Announces Retirement

Los Angeles Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth announced his retirement from professional football on Tuesday on his Instagram page. The writing was on the wall when the Rams signed offensive tackle Joe Noteboom to a big deal on Monday to take over the starting left tackle duties. It's not a surprise that the 40-year-old decided to ride off into the sunset after winning the Super Bowl in February. Whitworth was a two-time All-Pro and four-time Pro Bowler in his decorated 16-year NFL career. He spent the first 11 seasons of his career toiling away with the Cincinnati Bengals before joining the Rams for the last five seasons. Whitworth also won the Walter Payton Man of the Year award in 2021.

Andrew Whitworth Leaning Towards Retirement

Los Angeles Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth said that he's leaning towards retirement after winning the Super Bowl over his former team, the Cincinnati Bengals. Whitworth wouldn't mind running it back and winning a second straight championship, but the 40-year-old four-time Pro Bowler and two-time first-team All-Pro has basically accomplished everything at this point in his career. If he does decide to hang up his cleats after winning the Lombardi Trophy, the Rams will be looking for a new left tackle to protect quarterback Matthew Stafford's blind side in 2022.

Andrew Whitworth Likely To Retire If Rams Win

Asked if he'd retire if the Los Angeles Rams win the Super Bowl over the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, left tackle Andrew Whitworth said, "What an unreal way to walk off. I don't think there's anything else I would have to do." The 40-year-old tackle missed the Divisional Round win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a knee injury and missed practice last week with a quadriceps injury, but he was able to practice in full this week and was removed from the final injury report for the Super Bowl. The four-time Pro Bowler will be protecting quarterback Matthew Stafford's blind side in the big game this weekend and will be facing his old team in the Bengals. Whitworth spent the first 11 years of his career in Cincinnati.

Andrew Whitworth Misses Friday's Practice

Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth (quadriceps) was added to the injury report after not practicing Friday. He returned to action for the NFC Championship Game after missing the NFC Divisional-Round matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a knee injury. The Rams will be cautious with their starting tackle and limit the veteran in practice next week as a precaution. Whitworth's presence on the offensive line only helps quarterback Matthew Stafford and the Rams' offense.

Andrew Whitworth Fully Practices On Thursday

Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) was upgraded to full during Thursday's practice. The four-time Pro Bowl tackle is expected to return after sitting out the Divisional Round. His replacement Joe Noteboom (chest) played well in his absence, but also suffered an injury last week. Having Whitworth back on the offensive line would be a huge boost to the Rams offense. He seems to be trending in the right direction, but a final decision should be known within the next day or so.

Andrew Whitworth Expected To Play Against 49ers

Los Angeles Rams offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) is on track to play against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. The four-time Pro Bowl tackle was forced to miss the Divisional Round last week. His replacement Joe Noteboom (chest) is uncertain for Sunday after suffering an injury against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. It's unknown if Whitworth will be 100 percent ready against the 49ers, but the Rams will take anything close to it. Nick Bosa is an elite pass rusher, so having Whitworth at the tackle spot would make a huge difference.

Andrew Whitworth, Taylor Rapp Out For Rams

Los Angeles Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth (knee) and safety Taylor Rapp (concussion) have been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Divisional Round, according to head coach Sean McVay. The 40-year-old Whitworth was injured in the wild-card win over the Arizona Cardinals and may have played in his final NFL game. Joe Noteboom will likely protect quarterback Matthew Stafford's blind side against a strong Buccaneers defensive line. Rapp will miss his second straight game, so the Rams secondary will be vulnerable again, as Jordan Fuller (ankle) is out for the rest of the season as well. Expect quarterback Tom Brady to test a Rams secondary that asked safety Eric Weddle to come out of retirement for the playoffs.

Andrew Whitworth Back From COVID-19 List

The Los Angeles Rams activated left tackle Andrew Whitworth from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Thursday. Whitworth landed on the COVID list on Christmas Day last Saturday and didn't play in the Week 16 win over the Minnesota Vikings. The 40-year-old veteran will be back this Sunday to face the Baltimore Ravens, which is good news for quarterback Matthew Stafford as he looks to bounce back from a poor performance last Sunday. Despite his age, Whitworth has played some of his best football in 2021, allowing just 12 QB pressures and four sacks in 14 games at left tackle for the Rams. His 90.3 pass-blocking grade is the best in the NFL, regardless of position, according to Pro Football Focus.

Andrew Whitworth Likely In His Final Season

Los Angeles Rams left tackle Andrew Whitworth, who is entering his 16th NFL season, hinted that the 2021 season would likely be his last. "So this year, to me, it feels like this is it. This is like, I've put everything into trying to play this season and play at the level I want to," Whitworth said. The 39-year-old suffered a knee injury last year that kept him out for nearly half the season. But Whitworth did return to play 92 percent of the offensive snaps in a wild-card win and 100 percent of the snaps in the Divisional Round loss to the Green Bay Packers. The four-time Pro Bowler and two-time All-Pro will turn 40 years old in December, but he has long been a rock on LA's offensive line. As long as he can stay on the field, Whitworth will be tasked with protecting new quarterback Matthew Stafford.
