The Seattle Seahawks re-signed pass-rusher Benson Mayowa to a two-year deal with a maximum value of $8.8 million, according to a source. The deal includes $4.61 million guaranteed in the first year. The team also brought back defensive lineman Kerry Hyder on a three-year, $16.5 million deal. Both players will turn 30 before next season. Hyder had a career-high 8.5 sacks in 16 games with the San Francisco 49ers last year. He became a starter due to injuries to Nick Bosa and Dee Ford. Hyder has 18.5 sacks since entering the league in 2014. Mayowa had six sacks, seven tackles for loss, two forced fumbles and nine QB hits in 13 games for Seattle in 2020, missing three games with an ankle injury. He made nine starts but saw a dip in playing time after the team traded for Carlos Dunlap, who became their starter.
The Seattle Seahawks signed former Raiders defensive end Benson Mayowa to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday, according to his agent, David Canter. Mayowa had a career-high seven sacks in his one and only season in Oakland last season in a rotational role. The 28-year-old will likely be a rotational player again in Seattle, which limits his ceiling in IDP leagues. Should Jadeveon Clowney go elsewhere on the open market, Mayowa will look to pick up the slack in rushing the passer. In seven seasons in the NFL, Mayowa has 20 sacks and 41 QB hits in 87 games played (15 starts).
The Oakland Raiders are close to signing free-agent defensive end Benson Mayowa to a one-year deal that can exceed $3 million, according to a source. Mayowa spent two seasons with the Raiders from 2014-15 and had 38 total tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble and fumble recovery in 15 games for the Cardinals in 2018. Mayowa wouldn't be much of an option in IDP formats, as he's recorded 13 sacks in his six-year NFL career.
