Blake Bell News
The Kansas City Chiefs re-signed tight end Blake Bell to an undisclosed deal on Thursday. Bell helped fill in for Travis Kelce late last season when he had COVID-19 and had nine receptions on 13 targets for 87 yards and no touchdowns in 16 games (five starts). The 30-year-old will continue to provide depth behind Kelce and will mostly be used as a blocker in Kansas City. In seven NFL seasons with the Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Minnesota Vikings, Jacksonville Jaguars and Dallas Cowboys, Bell has 58 catches for 621 yards and no touchdowns on 92 targets over 97 games (26 starts). He's well off the fantasy radar.
Kansas City Chiefs tight end Blake Bell was activated from the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Friday, according to a source. It's notable with starting tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Tyreek Hill still both on the COVID list. If Kelce cannot clear the league's protocols before Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, Bell would likely share snaps with rookie Noah Gray. Bell has seen slightly more work than the rookie this year, catching five of his nine targets for 41 yards. Gray has scored a touchdown, though, while adding four receptions for just 18 yards on seven targets. Neither Bell nor Gray would be all that attractive in fantasy, though, even in two-TE leagues, if Kelce misses Week 16.
The Kansas City Chiefs signed free-agent tight end Blake Bell to an undisclosed one-year deal. Bell won the Super Bowl with the Chiefs two seasons ago and will return to the club after one year with the Dallas Cowboys. He played 397 offensive snaps (37.8 percent) in the regular season with the Chiefs in 2019 and also added 209 special teams snaps (50 percent). His offensive output was limited, as he mostly served as a blocker. Bell had just eight catches for 67 yards in 2019 in Kansas City with one touchdown in the playoffs. He had 11 receptions for 110 yards with Dallas last season. Bell should be the favorite for backup duties behind Travis Kelce, but he won't have any fantasy appeal unless Kelce misses time with injury.
