Brandon Allen News
The Bengals re-signed quarterback Brandon Allen on Friday. Cincinnati released him on Wednesday to claim three players off waivers. However, it didn't take long for the team to bring him back, and he is expected to reclaim his role as Joe Burrow's backup. The 29-year-old has thrown for 1,589 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six picks throughout his three years in the league. Yet, he's only completed 56.2% of his throws. With that said, even if Allen gets a chance to start this season, his fantasy upside is severely limited in all formats, including Superflex and multi-quarterback setups.
The Cincinnati Bengals released veteran quarterback Brandon Allen and veteran safety Michael J. Thomas and waived running back Trayveon Williams on Wednesday after claiming three players off waivers. There's a strong possibility that Allen will return to the team's roster, since they currently have no backup behind starter Joe Burrow. The 29-year-old signal-caller was originally a sixth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 out of the University of Arkansas. In 14 career games (nine starts) with the Denver Broncos and Bengals, Allen has gone 146-for-260 (56.2 completion percentage) for 1,589 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. He's started six games for the Bengals the last two seasons.
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen threw for 130 yards off 11-for-15 passing during the preseason victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Allen played most of the first half on Saturday night before handing the keys over to Jake Browning, who completed 19 of his 24 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown, connecting with tight end Justin Rigg late in the game to secure the win. Although Browning has had a better preseason, Allen will probably retain his role as Joe Burrow's primary backup. While that won't mean anything for managers heading into the new year, he may start at some point if Burrow misses time. If that's the case, Allen still has a lot to prove on the fantasy end, albeit he'll have value in multi-quarterback and Superflex formats.
