49ers Re-Sign Brandon Allen

The San Francisco 49ers re-signed quarterback Brandon Allen to an undisclosed deal on Monday, according to a source. Allen was an excellent presence in the team's quarterback room last year and could become the team's direct backup to Brock Purdy in 2024 if Sam Darnold leaves in free agency, which is expected. The 31-year-old served as San Francisco's emergency third signal-caller last year and didn't get into any games. In his four previous seasons with the Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals, Allen has appeared in 15 games (nine starts) and has completed only 56.7 percent of his pass attempts for 1,611 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Brandon Allen Set To Join 49ers

Veteran quarterback Brandon Allen is joining the 49ers' crowded quarterback room on a one-year deal. San Francisco has Sam Darnold, Trey Lance, and Brock Purdy on the roster, but the latter two are dealing with major injuries they suffered last season. Lance is coming back from a broken ankle, while Purdy's recovery timeline is uncertain after a torn UCL in his throwing elbow. Lance is rumored to be a trade candidate, but even if he remains on the roster, Allen is likely nothing more than an extra arm for offseason activities and training camp. The 30-year-old Arkansas alum has thrown for 1,611 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions in 15 career games played.

Cincy Re-Signs Brandon Allen

The Bengals re-signed quarterback Brandon Allen on Friday. Cincinnati released him on Wednesday to claim three players off waivers. However, it didn't take long for the team to bring him back, and he is expected to reclaim his role as Joe Burrow's backup. The 29-year-old has thrown for 1,589 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six picks throughout his three years in the league. Yet, he's only completed 56.2% of his throws. With that said, even if Allen gets a chance to start this season, his fantasy upside is severely limited in all formats, including Superflex and multi-quarterback setups.

Bengals Release Brandon Allen

The Cincinnati Bengals released veteran quarterback Brandon Allen and veteran safety Michael J. Thomas and waived running back Trayveon Williams on Wednesday after claiming three players off waivers. There's a strong possibility that Allen will return to the team's roster, since they currently have no backup behind starter Joe Burrow. The 29-year-old signal-caller was originally a sixth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 out of the University of Arkansas. In 14 career games (nine starts) with the Denver Broncos and Bengals, Allen has gone 146-for-260 (56.2 completion percentage) for 1,589 yards, 10 touchdowns and six interceptions. He's started six games for the Bengals the last two seasons.

Brandon Allen Has Adequate Showing In Preseason Win

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen threw for 130 yards off 11-for-15 passing during the preseason victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Allen played most of the first half on Saturday night before handing the keys over to Jake Browning, who completed 19 of his 24 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown, connecting with tight end Justin Rigg late in the game to secure the win. Although Browning has had a better preseason, Allen will probably retain his role as Joe Burrow's primary backup. While that won't mean anything for managers heading into the new year, he may start at some point if Burrow misses time. If that's the case, Allen still has a lot to prove on the fantasy end, albeit he'll have value in multi-quarterback and Superflex formats.

Brandon Allen Has Decent Showing On Sunday

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen finished with 105 yards off 14-for-20 passing during the preseason loss to the Giants. He also added two carries for two yards. Allen received plenty of work on Sunday night, although he couldn't connect with anyone in the end zone. However, the 29-year-old still appears to have a firm grasp on the No. 2 spot behind Joe Burrow. While that won't make him relevant from a fantasy standpoint, he has streaming potential if Burrow goes down with an injury at some point throughout the 2022-23 campaign.

Brandon Allen Exits Preseason Game With A Concussion

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen (concussion) exited Friday's preseason matchup versus the Arizona Cardinals. He will not return. With Joe Burrow (appendectomy) sitting this one out, Allen was handling things under center, although the 29-year-old didn't last long. He has been a relatively reliable backup over his last two years in Cincinnati, accumulating 1,074 yards, seven touchdowns (four interceptions), and completing 60.8% of his passes. While Allen's status is unknown moving ahead, Jake Browning and Drew Plitt will likely see plenty of action during the rest of the preseason if he isn't available.

Bengals Re-Sign Brandon Allen

The Cincinnati Bengals re-signed quarterback Brandon Allen to an undisclosed one-year deal on Thursday, according to a source. Allen was the team's top choice to back up Joe Burrow in 2022, and they are excited to have him back. It will be Allen's third straight season in Cincinnati. The 29-year-old has gone 107-for-176 for 1,074 yards, seven touchdowns and four interceptions in 11 games (six starts) for the Bengals in his two seasons with the team. He was initially a sixth-round pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2016 out of Arkansas, and he made his NFL debut in 2019 with the Denver Broncos, making three starts. Allen would only have low-end QB2 appeal if he's forced into starting duties in the event of a Burrow injury.

Brandon Allen - Week 18 Outlook for Fantasy Football

Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Brandon Allen is likely to start under center for Sunday's regular-season finale against the Browns with the news that Joe Burrow (knee, rest) would not be traveling with the team. Allen made five starts last season in place of an injured Burrow, averaging 185 passing yards per outing while combining for five touchdowns and four interceptions. His matchup is a difficult one to crack the code on as the Browns' defense has yielded the sixth-fewest passing yards per game this season (208.5), but will be without top corner Denzel Ward (Reserve/COVID-19 list). In addition, Joe Mixon (Reserve/COVID-19 list) will be held out with Cincinnati having little reason to push the remainder of its starters into unnecessary action. Aside from GPP lineups in DFS formats, Allen holds little fantasy appeal Sunday, with his presence under center also making Tee Higgins, Ja'Marr Chase, and Tyler Boyd risky options.

Brandon Allen Lands On COVID-19 List

Cincinnati Bengals backup quarterback Brandon Allen was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list on Monday. The obvious concern here is for starter Joe Burrow, who threw for a franchise-record 525 passing yards in the Week 16 win over the division-rival Baltimore Ravens. Burrow and Allen are the team's only QBs on the active roster, with Jake Browning on the practice squad. Burrow's fantasy managers will be keeping their fingers crossed this week that he won't join Allen on the COVID list. The Bengals offense would obviously be in real trouble in Week 17 against the Kansas City Chiefs if they were forced to start Browning under center against a stout KC defense.
