Byron Marshall News
Washington Redskins running back Byron Marshall carried the ball eight times for 45 yards on Thursday night against the Ravens. He averaged 5.6 yards per carry with a long rush of 16 yards. It was by far his best performance of the preseason, and undeniably more encouraging than Samaje Perine's five-carry, 13-yard outing. The battle between Marshall and Perine throughout the Redskins' four exhibitions looked like one nobody wanted to win until Thursday. At the same time, this competition has been for a depth role on Washington's roster. Regardless of who wins it, he will not offer any near-term fantasy value as the team's fourth running back.
Washington Redskins running back Byron Marshall entered 2019 training camp vying for the fourth slot on the depth chart. In two preseason games, he has carried the ball six times for 19 total yards. He did add an 11-yard reception to his tally in Thursday's contest, but his output is not indicative of a player running away with a roster spot. There figures to be minimal fantasy value from Marshall even if he were to earn the reserve RB role in Washington, as Adrian Peterson and Derrius Guice are the clear top options. This backfield is best left alone in almost any fantasy format after Peterson and Guice.
Washington Redskins running back Byron Marshall carried the ball five times on Thursday against the Browns, collecting 17 yards for his trouble. He was only slightly more effective than Samaje Perine, who is also vying for a reserve role in the Redskins backfield behind incumbent workhorse Adrian Peterson and second-year prospect Derrius Guice. Neither Peterson nor Guice were featured in the preseason opener, so keep an eye on what the Redskins do at running back in their second game, when both figure to suit up and at least get some game reps in. If Marshall sees the bulk of the work behind them, it could mean Perine is on the outside looking in. Either way, Marshall should not be seriously considered for fantasy rosters at this juncture.
