Houston Waives C.J. Prosise

Houston Texans running back C.J. Prosise was released Monday, thereby shortening the team's backfield options for Week 17 versus Tennessee. Prosise appeared in a career-high 10 games with the Texans this year, carrying the ball 10 times for 19 yards, while also adding his first receiving touchdown. Having battled an ankle injury as of late, it's unlikely that Prosise would both be added by a new team and clear his ailment in time to take the field to close out 2020. The transaction all but confirms that David Johnson is expected to handle another whopping workload versus the Titans, with Buddy Howell likely to serve as his backup should Duke Johnson (neck) not get the thumbs up to return.

Duke Johnson, C.J. Prosise Ruled Out For Sunday’s Contest

Houston Texans running backs Duke Johnson (neck) and C.J. Prosise (ankle) will both be absent from Sunday's game versus the Colts. Their absence leaves the Houston backfield extremely thin, but also paves the way for David Johnson to serve as the unabated bell cow. While Duke Johnson has retained a modest role even with David back in the fold, neither Duke nor Prosise merits much fantasy intrigue at this stage. Even with Buddy Howell serving as the only other active rusher, David Johnson has a tough path to success Sunday with the Colts Defense having yielded fewer than 100 yards rushing per game in 2020. Johnson found the end zone in his last outing against Indianapolis in Week 13 and should receive nearly all goal line RB carries Sunday, giving him an elevated chance to rack up another score.

C.J. Prosise Out With Illness Wednesday

Houston Texans running back C.J. Prosise (illness) did not take part in practice on Wednesday due to a non-COVID-19-related illness. Prosise had a season-high five carries for 12 yards and caught a two-yard pass for a touchdown in the Thanksgiving win over the Lions last week as the backup to Duke Johnson. He saw some notable work in the red zone in Week 12 and should continue to see a bigger role until David Johnson returns from Injured Reserve, but Prosise still isn't seeing enough touches to be considered a realistic flex option, even in the deepest of leagues. Buddy Howell and rookie Scottie Phillips would be called on to step up behind Johnson if Prosise is unable to play in Week 13 against the Colts.

Chris Carson, C.J. Prosise Likely Done For Season

The Seattle Seahawks fear that running back Chris Carson (hip) suffered a season-ending hip injury in the Week 16 loss to the Cardinals. Left tackle Duane Brown (knee) will have surgery on Monday for an injury that has bothered him for much of the year. Head coach Pete Carroll said that Brown could be back in a couple of weeks "if we're lucky." Backup running back C.J. Prosise (arm) also suffered a season-ending broken arm in the game Sunday. The running back injuries come two weeks after Rashaad Penny tore the ACL in his knee. Rookie sixth-rounder Travis Homer will now be the lead back heading into Week 17 against the 49ers and into the playoffs.

C.J. Prosise Coughs It Up

Seattle Seahawks running back C.J. Prosise stepped in as the change-of-pace back for Chris Carson on Sunday when Rashaad Penny couldn't go, but he only got to touch the ball four times. Given such limited opportunities, he'd want them to count, but unfortunately, it bit him this week. Prosise was called on to power forward to a first down late in the third quarter, but instead of picking up the necessary yard, Prosise coughed up the football in Seattle territory. Prosise has shown flashes of serious potential in the past, but he always seems to have something go wrong, whether it be an injury or a mistake. He's not fantasy relevant for now, and it's questionable whether he ever will be.

C.J. Prosise Squeaks In A Touchdown

Seattle Seahawks running back C.J. Prosise got the call with Rashaad Penny declared inactive once again on Sunday, and this time Prosise found his way into the end zone. Prosise got tagged for a carry from nine yards out and squeezed through a nearly non-existent hole to slip all the way through the defense and seal the game late in the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, that was all Prosise accomplished in the game. The team has kept him around for years because he has amazing appearances in practice and preseason games, but so far Prosise has done nothing to put any real pressure on those in front of him on the depth chart.

C.J. Prosise Is Quiet In Week 3

Given the chance to be the team's No. 2 for the week, Seattle Seahawks running back C.J. Prosise didn't make much noise. With running back Rashaad Penny (hamstring) out on Sunday, Prosise got his chance to remind everyone why Seattle has put up with his annual injuries. Instead, he tallied just five yards on four carries. He did catch five passes out of the backfield to rack up 38 yards, but most of that came on one 21-yarder. Penny's injury isn't considered serious, and he's currently expected to play in Week 4. For now, it looks like Prosise will continue to have to sit tight because he's not putting any pressure on anyone ahead of him in the depth chart.

C.J. Prosise Could Rock Week 1

Seattle Seahawks running back C.J. Prosise is actually healthy! At least, momentarily. He's been scratched on a game day morning before, but for now, he may finally get a crack at the field. Prosise has been one of the most injured players in the league for the last couple years, and it's been a serious point of consternation in the locker room. This preseason though, Prosise reminded everyone of why the team has stuck by him. He was excellent whenever he touched the ball, and he could be a surprise performer in Week 1. With his injury history, it wouldn't be surprising if the team took advantage of his health while it was good, and he could easily put up a huge play or two. Of course, he could also not play a single down because Seattle's coaching staff hates fantasy owners.

C.J. Prosise Makes A Statement

Seattle Seahawks running back C.J. Prosise has struggled mightily to find his way in the NFL to this point. Prosise has constantly been injured or recovering from injuries, and they've ranged from a fractured scapula to an abdomen injury that required surgery last season. His coaches have questioned his toughness, and he's seen other running backs on the roster pass him by. In Saturday's preseason game against the Chargers though, Prosise reminded everyone of why he is even still around. Prosise carried the ball five times for 32 yards and a touchdown. He also snagged a pass for 15 yards. Prosise is still an extreme injury risk, but with Rashaad Penny struggling in front of him, Prosise could push his way up to the No. 2 slot if he can stay on the field.

C.J. Prosise Is Healthy

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that running back C.J. Prosise has been healthy this offseason as he tries to win the third-down pass-catching role behind Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny. "He has been fit throughout, hes really strong, worked out really hard in the offseason to get his strength right, and his weight is up, but hes fit and has really been able to do a little bit of everything. So to add him into the competition is really nice. So we're fired up about C.J. being back," Carroll said. Prosise will be competing with J.D. McKissic and rookie Travis Homer. The 25-year-old Prosise showed promise in his rookie year in 2016 but has played in 16 games in his three seasons and just hasn't been able to stay on the field. At best, he'll be a PPR flex sleeper if he wins the third-down job for a team that led the league in rushing in 2019.
