Patriots Re-Sign Carl Davis

The New England Patriots re-signed nose tackle Carl Davis to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday. Davis will return for a third season in New England after recording 19 tackles (12 solo) and one sack in 17 games (four starts) for the Patriots last year. The 30-year-old will return to compete for a rotational role on the defensive line this summer. In his six NFL seasons with the Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars, Davis has 54 tackles (32 solo), four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and three passes defensed in 56 games (17 starts). The 30-year-old veteran was originally a third-round selection by the Ravens in 2015 out of Iowa.

Carlton Davis Staying In Tampa

Cornerback Carlton Davis has agreed to a three-year, $45 million ($30 million guaranteed) deal to return to the Buccaneers. The former second-round pick is signing on the heels of Tom Brady's announcement that he would return for his 23rd season in the National Football League, so it appears the organization is doing all it can to keep things in order on the defensive end as well. The 25-year-old has dealt with injuries over the years but has had flashes of efficiency, racking up 207 total tackles and six picks throughout his four seasons. Unquestionably, getting him back on the roster can only mean good things for a defense that was hit or miss during the 2021-22 campaign.

Carlton Davis Expected To Hit Free Agency

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to let impending free-agent cornerback Carlton Davis hit the open market to gauge his value in free agency. Tampa wasn't prepared to use the franchise tag on Davis at $17.287 million, even if they didn't have to use it on wide receiver Chris Godwin. It's entirely possible that Davis goes elsewhere this offseason after he played in only 10 games in 2021 due to a quadriceps injury. The 25-year-old had 39 tackles (33 solo), one interception, 11 passes defensed and one fumble recovery for the Bucs last season. Although he has just six interceptions in his first four NFL seasons, the former second-round pick in 2018 should attract plenty of attention on the open market.

Buccaneers Could Consider Tagging Carlton Davis

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis missed seven games in 2021 due to a quadriceps injury, but he still had 11 passes defensed to bring his four-year total to 52. Tampa is in a transition period after quarterback Tom Brady's retirement, and they'll have to decide which starters to keep heading into free agency next month. Davis is the team's No. 1 cornerback, when healthy, and placing the franchise tag on him would allow the team to work on a big-money extension for the 2023 offseason. The Buccaneers are projected to have much more salary cap space next year. The 25-year-old finished the 2021 regular season with 39 tackles and one interception in 10 games played.

Carlton Davis Nearing A Return

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis (quadriceps) returned to practice on Wednesday, but head coach Bruce Arians said he doubts that Davis will be able to play in Week 12 against the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday. The Bucs opened Davis' 21-day practice window to return from Injured Reserve, and although he's unlikely to return this weekend, he could be available for a return in Week 13 against the Atlanta Falcons. Veteran cornerback Richard Sherman (calf) is also on IR, but the Tampa secondary got Sean Murphy-Bunting back from IR last week and are slowly starting to get back to full health in the second half of the season.

Carlton Davis Placed On Injured Reserve

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers placed cornerback Carlton Davis (quadriceps) on Injured Reserve on Thursday, which will keep him out for at least three games. He's expected to be out four to six weeks with his quadriceps injury, so Davis is not expected to return until November. Davis now joins defensive back Sean Murphy-Bunting (elbow) on Injured Reserve as Tampa's already suspect secondary thins out. Cornerback Jamel Dean (knee) sat out of the Week 4 win over the New England Patriots, but he's been limited in practice this week and has a shot at returning this Sunday against the Miami Dolphins. Veteran Richard Sherman made the start last week and should continue doing so with Davis and Murphy-Bunting on IR. Despite a suspect secondary, Tampa's defense will be an elite must-start fantasy unit this weekend against the Dolphins.

Carlton Davis Ruled Out With Quad Injury

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis (quadriceps) was ruled out for the rest of the second half of the Sunday night game against the New England Patriots after he was carted off the field. Davis came into the game dealing with injuries to his abdomen and ribs, but it was a quad injury that forced him from the game. He was injured during a special teams play when he pulled up lame and went down to the turf. It had the look of a pretty serious injury, but we'll have to wait to see how long Davis might be out. Starting cornerbacks Jamel Dean and Sean Murphy-Bunting were already out coming into this game, so Tampa's secondary is notably thin despite the signing of All-Pro Richard Sherman this week. Opponents will continue to attack the Bucs defense downfield.

Carlton Davis Questionable For Buccaneers Defense

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Carlton Davis (hamstring) was added to the team's injury report on Friday, and he's now questionable for Week 2 against the Atlanta Falcons after practicing in a limited fashion. Outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul (hand) missed practice for the second straight day on Friday after being limited on Wednesday, but head coach Bruce Arians said the pass-rusher is fine. The Bucs are already without Sean Murphy-Bunting (elbow) for the foreseeable future, so Ross Cockrell may be forced into more playing time if Davis cannot play on Sunday. Despite the injuries on the defensive side of the ball, the Buccaneers defense/special teams will be a very strong play in Week 2 against a Falcons offense that allowed six sacks, turned the ball over three times and scored only 13 points in Week 1.

Steelers Select Defensive Tackle Carlos Davis

The Pittsburgh Steelers used their seventh-round pick (232 overall) on Nebraska defensive tackle Carlos Davis. Davis has good athleticism for his size, as he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.82 seconds at the combine despite weighing in at 313 pounds. He tends to struggle in the run game but shows flashes of brilliance, which is the upside the Steelers are hoping for from their last pick in the draft.
