Carl Davis Jr. News
The New England Patriots re-signed nose tackle Carl Davis to an undisclosed deal on Wednesday. Davis will return for a third season in New England after recording 19 tackles (12 solo) and one sack in 17 games (four starts) for the Patriots last year. The 30-year-old will return to compete for a rotational role on the defensive line this summer. In his six NFL seasons with the Patriots, Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars, Davis has 54 tackles (32 solo), four tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and three passes defensed in 56 games (17 starts). The 30-year-old veteran was originally a third-round selection by the Ravens in 2015 out of Iowa.
Cornerback Carlton Davis has agreed to a three-year, $45 million ($30 million guaranteed) deal to return to the Buccaneers. The former second-round pick is signing on the heels of Tom Brady's announcement that he would return for his 23rd season in the National Football League, so it appears the organization is doing all it can to keep things in order on the defensive end as well. The 25-year-old has dealt with injuries over the years but has had flashes of efficiency, racking up 207 total tackles and six picks throughout his four seasons. Unquestionably, getting him back on the roster can only mean good things for a defense that was hit or miss during the 2021-22 campaign.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to let impending free-agent cornerback Carlton Davis hit the open market to gauge his value in free agency. Tampa wasn't prepared to use the franchise tag on Davis at $17.287 million, even if they didn't have to use it on wide receiver Chris Godwin. It's entirely possible that Davis goes elsewhere this offseason after he played in only 10 games in 2021 due to a quadriceps injury. The 25-year-old had 39 tackles (33 solo), one interception, 11 passes defensed and one fumble recovery for the Bucs last season. Although he has just six interceptions in his first four NFL seasons, the former second-round pick in 2018 should attract plenty of attention on the open market.
