The New York Jets re-signed backup quarterback David Fales to an undisclosed one-year deal on Tuesday, according to a source. Fales was Sam Darnold's backup for most of last season and will continue to fill that role after playing for head coach Adam Gase and offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains in both Chicago and Miami. Since being drafted in the sixth round of the 2014 draft by the Bears, the 29-year-old has played in parts of just five games and has never started a game. He'll continue to hold the clipboard for Darnold in New York and will have zero fantasy appeal.
Free-agent quarterback David Fales has been released by the Detroit Lions. Fales has had a fairly lackluster preseason after quarterback Tom Savage went down with a concussion in Week 1 of the preseason. Fales had an opportunity to prove himself but was just unable to earn a roster spot. Savage has returned to practice, and it seems that the Lions were content with moving on with Fales.
Detroit Lions quarterback David Fales went 12/19 for 226 yards and a touchdown in the Lions second preseason game against the Texans. With Tom Savage out on concussion protocol, Fales is competing with Josh Johnson to be Stafford's backup come regular season in a few weeks. This performance will certainly help Fales' case. Fales remains worthless in all fantasy formats as long as Stafford remains healthy.
Detroit Lions quarterback David Fales was limited to just 14 attempts for 62 yards and an interception in Thursday night's preseason matchup against the Patriots. Fales is listed as the third quarterback on the Lion's depth chart and last nights performance certainly didn't help his cause. David Fales will continue to be fantasy irrelevant unless Stafford and Savage both go down with injuries.
Brock Osweiler, David Fales Both Make Dolphins 53-Man Roster
Miami Dolphins quarterbacks Brock Osweiler and David Fales have both found a spot on the 53- man roster, but head coach Adam Gase hasn't said which player is the true backup to Ryan Tannehill. After missing the entire 2017 season with a knee injury, Tannehill's health is still a concern, which is likely why Osweiler and Fales both made the roster. Osweiler and Fales hold no fantasy value unless Tannehill goes down with an injury again. If Tannehill does go down, whoever is named as his backup could be a viable waiver wire pickup in deep leagues. Regardless, Osweiler and Fales aren't likely options to have impactful fantasy seasons.
The Miami Dolphins are re-singing quarterback David Fales to a one-year deal, according to a source. For now, Fales is the current backup to Ryan Tannehill with Matt Moore being a free agent. However, Miami is fully expected to select a quarterback in the draft, and they may move up to do so. Fales has played in three games in his two seasons in the NFL and can be ignored everywhere.
Jay Cutler Pulled Early for David Fales in Final Game
Miami Dolphins quarterback Jay Cutler didn't get to end his Dolphins career (presumably) in style. He completed one of two attempts for six yards before being pulled for third-string QB David Fales. Fales was adequate in his first extended NFL action, completing 29 of 42 pass attempts for 265 yards, one touchdown and one interception. This should mark the end of Cutler's tenure in Miami and quite possibly his career, as Cutler indicated he doesn't want to be a backup next year. He threw for 2,666 yards with a 19:14 touchdown-to-interception ratio this season.
With the Miami Dolphins in need of adding quarterback insurance behind Ryan Tannehill (knee) for 2018 with Jay Cutler unlikely to return, head coach Adam Gase may give backup David Fales some playing time in a meaningless Week 17 game against the Bills. Fales, who is in his third season, has only attempted five passes in the NFL. However, he saw first-team repetitions in practice this week, but the game flow Sunday will dictate whether he actually comes into the game. While Cutler hasn't been much of a fantasy option in 2017 to begin with, this news especially makes him one to avoid against Buffalo, and Miami's pass catchers like Jarvis Landry and DeVante Adams would see a hit to their value, too, if Fales enters the game.
