Broncos Add Deuce Vaughn to Their Practice Squad

The Denver Broncos are signing free-agent running back Deuce Vaughn to their practice squad on Tuesday, sources tell Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports. Vaughn, a former All-American at Kansas State and a sixth-round pick by the Dallas Cowboys in 2023, will give Denver additional backfield depth behind J.K. Dobbins, rookie RJ Harvey, Tyler Badie, and Jaleel McLaughlin. The 5-foot-6, 176-pounder will be a long shot to make any noise in Denver this year or ever in the NFL, given his small stature. In his two seasons with the Cowboys over the last two years, he handled only 40 carries for 110 yards (2.8 yards per tote) with no touchdowns. Vaughn caught 10 of his 12 targets for 58 yards in the passing game. Dallas cut Vaughn from their roster at the end of training camp in late August.

Texans Work Out Running Back Deuce Vaughn

The Houston Texans held a work out with running back Deuce Vaughn, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2 in Houston. The back was waived by the Dallas Cowboys earlier this offseason and is looking for a new team, while the Texans might need help in their backfield. Joe Mixon (ankle) is starting the season on IR, leaving Houston to rely upon free agent Nick Chubb, rookie Woody Marks, and Dameon Pierce. Even if Vaughn is signed, however, he's unlikely to have much fantasy appeal, even in the deepest of leagues.

Broncos Host Deuce Vaughn for Workout

The Denver Broncos hosted free-agent running back Deuce Vaughn for a workout on Tuesday, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report. The 23-year-old spent each of the last two seasons in a depth role with the Dallas Cowboys. Through 14 career games (zero starts), he has 110 rushing yards and 58 receiving yards. However, he's still searching for his first NFL touchdown. If signed, Vaughn would offer additional running back depth behind J.K. Dobbins, R.J. Harvey, Tyler Badie, and Jaleel McLaughlin. He can be avoided in all fantasy leagues.

Deuce Vaughn Waived

The Dallas Cowboys waived running back Deuce Vaughn on Tuesday, but he could return as a member of the team's practice squad, according to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News. Now 23 years old, Vaughn joined the Cowboys as a sixth-round pick from Kansas State in 2023. He appeared in 14 games in his first two seasons and totaled 110 yards on 40 carries. In his bid for a roster spot this summer, Vaughn played in all three of the Cowboys' preseason games and ran for 64 yards on 17 attempts. It wasn't enough to convince Dallas to put Vaughn on its roster. The team will instead open the season with Javonte Williams, Jaydon Blue, Miles Sanders, and Phil Mafah as its running back quartet.

Deuce Vaughn Leads Cowboys in Rushing on Friday

Dallas Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn led his team in rushing on Friday night in preseason action against the Atlanta Falcons, recording 10 carries for 42 yards. Vaughn has been limited in training camp by a hamstring injury, but he earned the start at running back in the preseason finale. A sixth-round pick in 2023, Vaughn has just 40 career carries in 14 games played. However, there could be an opportunity for him to earn playing time in Dallas this season, given the team's muddled backfield situation. Veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders are likely to open the season earning the majority of the reps, leaving Vaughn to battle with rookies Jaydon Blue and Phil Mafah for a depth role. Blue (ankle) left Friday's game with an ankle injury, which could open a spot for Vaughn early in the year.

Deuce Vaughn Works With First-Team Offense

With Dallas Cowboys rookie running back Jaydon Blue (heel) still sidelined from Tuesday's training camp practice, it allowed Deuce Vaughn to work with the first-team offense, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. Vaughn had a good day by showing lateral movements to make defenders miss in space. The 23-year-old is slippery in space because of his quickness and size (5-foot-6, 176 pounds), but Vaughn is still fighting an uphill battle to be involved out of Dallas' backfield in 2025. The former sixth-round pick (212th overall) in 2023 out of Kansas State has a combined 40 rushing attempts for 110 yards and no touchdowns while adding 10 receptions for 58 yards in the passing game in his two seasons in the NFL with the Cowboys. At best, he'll open his third season as the RB4 behind Javonte Williams, Miles Sanders and Blue.

Deuce Vaughn Returns to Training Camp Practice

Dallas Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn (hamstring) was able to practice with the rest of the team at training camp on Thursday, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. It's good news for a beat-up Dallas backfield, as both Miles Sanders (knee) and rookie Jaydon Blue (ankle) are also on the injury report. The 23-year-old Vaughn should get quite a bit of run in the preseason opener this Saturday against the Los Angeles Rams as he battles for a depth role in 2025. He has the added bonus of being the only member of the current RB room that played for the team last year, but if everyone is healthy, Vaughn is likely to be the RB4, at best, behind Javonte Williams, Sanders and Blue. The 5-foot-6, 176-pounder has barely been involved in his first two NFL seasons, carrying the rock only 40 times for 110 yards (2.8 yards per carry) and no touchdowns.

Deuce Vaughn Dealing with Hamstring Injury

Dallas Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn (hamstring) missed the team's practice on Sunday with a left hamstring injury, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News. Vaughn missed time with a similar injury in 2024, but Watkins relays that the current hamstring ailment is not considered to be as serious. The 23-year-old Vaughn was drafted by the Cowboys in the sixth round of the 2023 draft and has yet to make a significant NFL impact. In 14 career games. Vaughn has recorded 40 carries for 110 yards. There could be an opportunity for him to earn playing time in Dallas this season if he can get back to full strength. The Cowboys have veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders competing with Vaughn and rookie Jaydon Blue for snaps in the backfield.

Deuce Vaughn Sees First Action Since Week 11

Dallas Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn acted as the team's RB2 on Sunday in the 23-19 loss to Washington following the release of running back Ezekiel Elliott. Vaughn rushed six times for 37 yards, spelling Rico Dowdle. The 5-foot-6 running back looked solid, cranking out a team-long 12-yard carry among his six rush attempts. Vaughn will look to earn a larger role going into next season as Dowdle is set to become an unrestricted free agent in the spring.

Deuce Vaughn A Healthy Scratch Against Commanders

Dallas Cowboys running back Deuce Vaughn is a healthy inactive for the Week 12 game against the division-rival Washington Commanders on Sunday in D.C. Vaughn will be on the sidelines for this one after playing just 16 of the team's 83 offensive snaps in the Monday night loss to the Houston Texans in Week 11. The 23-year-old has been a distant third on the RB depth chart in his second NFL season in Dallas behind Rico Dowdle and Ezekiel Elliott in a struggling rushing attack. Vaughn has had only 11 carries on the season for 33 rushing yards while catching three passes for 18 yards. He should remain on the waiver wire in most fantasy leagues for the rest of the season in a Dallas offense that will likely remain well below average the rest of the way with quarterback Dak Prescott (hamstring) out for the season.
